In battle do you roll 8 separate attacks for the carrion crawlers tentacles and an additonal for its bite...a lot of rolling dice. How do most DM's handle this encounter? Thanks

Just some authomatic hits, maybe... or 1-2 dice for all the tentacles.

8 is alot?

I guess your PCs never encounter any hordes or multi limbed creatures in numbers huh?

Roll all 8 and be happy about it

I too roll all 8 attacks, it prepares players for the inevitable Marlilth battle in 15 levels or so. Besides, it makes the players learn quickly not to just stand there in combat at lower levels, stick and move just like the doc said. A creature with eight attacks loses 6 when you attack then move away [counting the provokedness]. Then the slow monster slides forward makes one attack and the player does the same, but then moves again, making it's multiple attacks useless.
SOmetimes you just have to think during combat, and move definately move.
