I'm thinking of introducing a method of casting checks each time an arcane spell is cast to my campaign. The theory is that each time a wizard or sorcerer casts a spell the chaotic energies which make up the spell have a chance of going wrong and a d% is rolled to represent this. On a roll of 1 +1/Spell level something goes wrong with the spell and I make a roll on my wild magic table. Although it's only a low to mid-level campaign one of my players is objecting to this saying that it would make arcane spellcasters unplayable. Understandably, this worries me slightly and so I was wondering what the people here thought.

In case you're curious, I also have a method for Divine casters which involves a deity or powerful outsider intercepting the prayers of the caster.

On another note, does anyone know of a good d100 or d1000 wild magic effects table?

I would honestly suggest against using "Wild Magic Surges", but if my words are not to be heard then I'll tell you to make it a very, very, very, very, very slight chance that one should occur.

I've seem some around here and there...but I'd suggest making your own. Most of them are truly silly and not intended for actual game play.
