In the next installment of the game I'm running, my players are going to be the defending side in a seige as an undead army attacks the castle. The campaign is a homebrew that is similar in flavor to Spelljammer, with ships that can traverse worlds being very common. Currently, the PC's have an artifact that the undead army wants to awaken a big nasty monster, but their castle is being blockaded so they can't leave simply fly out. Fortunately, the castle has pretty hefty anti-ship defenses and is built on a small plateau in a mountainous area, making assaulting it difficult.

I've used drawn a detailed, to scale map of the castle, a not to scale map of the surrounding environs, and a complete list of the castle's occupants(at the current time, 120 human soldiers, 12 corporals, 6 sergents, 3 knight-lieutenants, 1 knight-captain, 1 knight-major, 15 dwarf monks, a dwarf monk master, 30 human commoners(laborers/support staff), 2 human blacksmiths, 3 gnomish engineers, a gnomish wizard, a human ship captain and his crew of 15 sailors, and the PC's and thier crew of 20 sailors. In addition, the castle is equipped with 8 whirling ballistas(special ballistas that can fire every round) mounted on the keep and the turrets of the outer walls and has two lighting ballistas(from Heroes of Battle) mounted near the front gate.

I'm using the victory point rules from Heroes of Battle, and I'm looking for suggestions of some encounters that could crop up over the course of the seige. Thanks for any ideas!

Ah, now this is the kind of scenario I love! :D

Some ideas:

1) Use the Bolts from Heroes of Battle that raise the dead (for the Attacker, obviously!). Necromantic Bolts I think they were...

2) If you can get a hold of the Fiend Folio, have an Airship filled with oil kamikaze into the castle (eg: over the wall). The Airship contained a Wickerman, who is totally immune to the fiery demise of the ship, but more than happy to find replacement victims!

3) Living Siege Towers...

I'd suggest playing Final Fantasy IX as well... there were some great Airships in that! :D

Hehe, thanks. I think I'll have to do the kamikaze ship as part of the last assault- if a PC is manning a ballista give them 2 rounds to shoot it down, and have it filled with something fire immune, hehe.
