Im in a game with 3 players. They all have a considerable amount of wealth being at pretty high levels. And recently they all expressed the desire to build a castle. And in the DMG it says the cost for a castle, but doesnt go into detail. I was wondering if this meant the cost for supplies only? Or supplies, manpower, land, etc. And then also how long approximately would it take to build the castle? Its just the normal size castle (as described by the DMG, 500,000 gp) so you know what to compare it to.

go get the stronghold builders guide book. it gives great detail to a castle and the pcs can design what features they want and what they think they want until they see the price. :D

Ah, I didnt know there was an actual book on it. But for the sake of time and money saving (I dont really want to buy a book for this one situation, which may never happen again) could I get maybe a little bit of advise. It doesnt have to be the real rules from the book (since that would be copyright infringment, and thats never good :noway: ) just maybe a few ideas on how to handle these issues.

I have used the stronghold builders guide a very useful tool for building various keeps and other types of structures. If you are into buildings the book is good

I'd assume the DMG cost is what a basic constructed building would cost completed. If the PCs actually want to spend the time building a castle you could use the item creation rules to determine initial cost and time taken. My guess is that the time needed will be a little high for the players liking which means hiring more labor and driving up the cost, likely to something close to what it would cost outright.

I believe the cost incorporates the materials as well as the manpower costs. Land though is a different animal, usually gained either through brown nosing the local baron or clearing a bit of wilderness far away from other civilized locales.

Looking at my strong hold builders guide, 500,000 will get you a pretty good sized castle. Land is indeed a seperate issue.

If you paln on any detailed play at the castle, the the guide is definately the way to go.
