has anyone seen the celerity spell in the new spell compendium? as a fouth level spell you cast as an imiediate action whic lets you cast another spell imiediately afterwords!!!

its crazy good, but i'm wondering if i'm ruling it correctly, can anyone who's using the spell compendium give me some pointers on how to rule on this.

i might add that the caster is dazed for a round after casting it....

I havenot heard of this spell... but,

Well... you're only allowed one immediate action per round.

And it's a 4th level spell...
It's sort of like breaking down quicken spell from a spell 4 levels higher than normal to a 4th level spell and a normal spell.

It is quite good, but just remember you can only prepare so many 4th level spells...

(I can imagine this being a godsend for sorcs)

has anyone seen the celerity spell in the new spell compendium?Nope. Are they putting out a new one? I have the first one and can't find it...page number reference, maybe?

as a fouth level spell you cast as an imiediate action whic lets you cast another spell imiediately afterwords!!!Well, if you do that and then add what haste does now, you have the old haste spell from 3.0 -- which was a 3rd level spell, might I add. It was one of the things they fixed in 3.5.

I'm personally glad to see it made it back, though (I'm a wizard fan.) It seems to me to basically be a free use of Quicken Spell. I basically agree with sunsilverdragon, I guess.

Celerity is terrible. You're spending a fourth-level spell slot to shove two rounds worth of spellcasting into one, but since it dazes you, you can't cast a spell next round.

The benefit is insignificant compared to the additional resources expended.

It's also in the PHB2. Very useful when the use of a specific spell or other standard action can save your life, but otherwise pretty much worthless. I suppose you can use it as a free counterspell without having to ready an action, though. You're basically using a spell to take your next turn early. I might add that there's a lesser celerity with a move action and a greater celerity with a full-round action.

What Kaligrad said. It's a nice boost that allows you to get your turn right now but doesn't grant you extra actions. Uses could e.g. include a parting gift to a foe that is running away and would be out of reach for the mage the next turn.

Celerity is a great spell to control the battlefield in the time dimension. It's cast as a immediate action (in someone's else turn) and then it gives you a std action to do the spell you want (lightning bolt right when all enemies are lined up or just before a sneak attack / coup de grace ....)

I had a NPC sorcerer use it several times along with Baleful/Benign transpositions. :evillaugh Casters hiding being a column were quickly surrounded by NPC fighters while the PC tank was up front alone and swinging in the air or transposed down the stairs. That sorcerer controlled the battlefield totally. PCs were surprised and on their toes.
:duel:

Other advantage of this spell: regardless of how far away their turn was, everyone was paying attention throughout that fight as you never knew what would happen next and where the enemies & the PCs would show up.

It's balanced because it's a 4th lvl spell and then the Sorcerer is dazed for quite a while hence vulnerable.
