I'm trying to run a single player short adventure, so I can equal out my characters levels. It became so screwy that I had my members crossing several different levels, however that is not my questions.

The player I'm running the campaign for is level 6, but I'm not sure how to equate the CR for one character.Any help?

You could try using mostly humanoids. The DMG has a handy section with premade stats and everything for the base classes. That would be the easiest.

Outside of that... I generally have my players fight what they can handle. Look at your players plus to hit and his dmg, factor that in. If he can take a CR 6 on his own, let him. If he is more suited to a few CR 2, or maybe a CR 4 then go with that.

Sorry I can't give you a perfect method but it works if you have nothing else.

For a 1 PC encounter, treat the CR as if it was 2 levels higher, and try not to pick monsters that have strengths against the character type (incorporeal against grapplers, etc).
