Basically, in EQ certain weapons had a chance to release a magical charge, usually a spell, on their target. I know there is an EQ PHB, but I can never find one in my area. I have toyed with the idea of creating such an item in my current campaign, using a spell such as Ray of Enfeeblement, as the charge release. I didn't want to just make special burst weapons, because I wanted the item to "go off" less often, and allow useful effects like slow without a huge price. There are no numbered charges, so can be always used. Here are my basic plans: Hamstringer Long Sword +1, Chance:Ray of Enfeeblement(+2 atk) 5%+cha; 1d8+1;Caster Level:10;Market Price: As a +2 weapon; Basically, Bob the Fighter attacks with the Hamstringer, and rolls to hit. Along with said roll, he rolls d%. If Bob gets a result of 5+cha mod% or lower, he releases the spell on the target. For instance, with a cha mod of +2, he would need to get a d% score of 01-07. After succesfully "procing", the sword will roll to hit the target with a R-T-A with a +2 to hit overall. All of this happens regardless of the sword striking the target. Good? Bad? Broken? Fling them at me! EDIT: Darn, should have thrown this in the UA forum. Sorry. |

| Vatras03-08-05, 10:42 PM | The EQ PHB (pg. 374) makes processing weapons work like this: A weapon with a proc has a DC for the proc to go off. This is a DEX check for the wielder. For every attack that hits he rolls the d20+DEX modifier and if he beats the DC the proc goes off. For example, an Ykesha procs on a 15. |
