Chaotic Party vs Anti-Chaos Paladin... [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-21-04, 06:50 AM Ok, I'd like some advice on my game....

I have a group composed of: CG Human fighter/barbarian, NG Human ranger, CN Goblin Rogue (reincarnated...), CG human fighter, CN gnome sorcerer.

We had a psion who we've decided wouldn't be easily transfered with the expanded psibook, and wants to play a LN Enforcer. He was looking at the paladin, but didn't think that a paladin would go with the current group, so I offered to let him look at the alignment variations in the warrior Dragon mag #93 August 2003. He liked the Enforcer, an anti-chaos paladin...

Now, here's the problem. He sees Law as the laws of government, and chaos as only those that try to destroy said government. I had a couple hour discussion of Philosophy over ICQ last week, and can't get him to see how much of a problem this character would cause with the group, and that he would have no real reason to even join. He says that the characters don't act chaotic, and that he wouldn't be bothered by their activities... I think that if he plays it right, that he would probably smite at least the goblin at first chance.

So, I'm looking like I said for advice. Should I allow the class since I offered to let him look at the variants? Should I allow it, and wait for the feathers to fly? Should I ban the variants, even though I suggested them?

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.

04-21-04, 06:56 AM The variant isn't the problem, it's trying to play a Lawful character in a wholly Chaotic party. If he can handle that without getting himself or someone else killed, then playing the Enforcer (or any other LN character) will go fine. If you doubt that will happen, then tell him a lawful character will not travel with the party, and instead make a character who is N with L tendencies (meaning he's still pretty lawful except he doesn't care that much about chaos either).

04-21-04, 07:15 AM Put it this way; do you think that an Enforcer would make an ideal Nemesis for the party? If you do then he would probably make a terrible PC.

You also might want to consider that not everything that appears in the books is actually written in a way that is compatible with other parts of the books or indeed common sense (DnD 3+ is not terribly well edited - especially in regards to alignment)....
