Obviously, the best case solution would be to have everyone that needs to go back to the players handbook and learn them. Unfortunately, this is a group of full-time college students, most of whom work part time as well. So I got to thinking, what if there was a sheet the DM could prep for the players (with a minimum of work on his/her part) that would show players exactly what they could do (EDIT: I mean in combat. They can roleplay to their hearts content if they wish, not trying to limit that. If anything, I'm hoping to encourage more roleplaying.) as well as give them all the relevant information they'll need to play without any of the extra stuff? The sheet will be in excel format. I'm designing it so that the DM can simply input attribute rolls, skill points (the sheet takes care of class skills and trained/untrained skills), armor, weapons and hitpoints. The sheet will need to be updated at each level, but I seriously think this will help streamline the sessions. The idea is not to completely replace character sheets entirely, just to not need the sheets when actually playing (players will still level their own characters, but this takes a lot of the looking up stuff out of the picture during play itself.) If all goes well, I might do the same kind of thing for spells as well, since we spend way too much time looking them up. I have no intention, however of expanding any of this beyond the 3.5 core books. I'm posting this here for several reasons. First, I'm curious if anyone would be interested in a copy of the sheet once it's finished. I'd probably want one if I wasn't making it. Secondly, I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on what is really important for the players to have. I'm sure I'll accidentally leave things out and regret it later and I'd like to minimize that as much as possible. Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions? Thanks in advance. -Dave |
