I had an idea for a character for a game I may be playing in if it ever gets off the ground. Its sort of a combination of the "Behind Blue Eyes video (Gothika version) and the Benny Russel episodes of Deep Space Nine. The idea is that a serial killer, confined to an insane asylum ( in a world like 20th century Earth), is somehow transferred into the campaign world. He interacts with the world and its inhabitants. He learns new skills and gets battle scars. He seems to be very much a real part of the world.

Yet, sometimes, when he sleeps, he is back in the asylum. Its like he never left. He is writing these elaborate stories about his adventures in the other world (he's not allowed sharp things, so the stories are written in crayon). The point is that he will never be sure which world is real.

If it helps, I'm thinking he will be a Neutral Evil Rogue...

ok, so basically what you are asking is "am I insane?"

No, I dont think you are insane.

Good luck!

That would make a very intersting story, but my question is, how would you RP all of that as a player? I mean that is a great idea for background and a great way to set up character personallity, but again, how are you going to express that through your actions in a D&D game setting? Are you going to have your character go ballistic at random times during the sessions? Will he/she sleepwalk during fits of flashbacks?

What i am getting is that you have a good idea, what you need to do now is figure out how you are going to run with it in a campaign.

Good luck.
