Mister dead 06-01-05, 02:49 PM	I'm considering adding something called character points to my game. These character points would be awarded along with exp, for good roleplaying, good ideas and etc. They would be used in the place of spending exp for creating magical items and casting certain spells. They would also be used for increasing attribute points, obtaining new feats and maybe a few other things. Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Or anyone notice any glaring no no's or flaws that would disrupt or unbalance the game using a system like this?

Kalidor 06-01-05, 04:43 PM	Alot of D20 Modern and Sci-Fi games have a variant of this type of rule (Action points, Force points, etc). Might want to just borrow from one of those systems. I tried it for a while, but it became a hassle as it was just yet another thing to keep track of -- and often players forgot to use them in the heat of the moment so we just dropped it.

Yeah, we used to call them Hero Points. A player brought the idea to me and I entertained the notion for about 2 sessions, until it became evident that everybody had their own idea of what would earn them one. It wasn't easy to standardize a method for earning them, and after listening to a certain troublemaker demand one for every tiny thing he did, I concluded that it just wasn't a good idea for us.
