I'm just starting a new campaign with three players, all quite new to the game. One of them is really into it (his background story has chapters), but the other two are struggling a bit with making a character who actually has some character. I was hoping you could all post your questionaires that either you've made, or links to good ones you know of, for all those dms, like me, whose players need something to get their creativity going.

If your players are having trouble, I wouldn't recomend you overwhelm them with complicated questionaires. Just come up with a few (8-12 or so) questions dealing with where their character comes from, what he has already accomplished and, most importantly, what he hopes to accomplish in the future. The future is the most important part because if you as DM can tie your plot lines in with the characters backgrounds and goals, the players will be more inclined to engage with their characters.

I'd have them make a drawing of their character, so that the GM can introduce characters to each other without the "you're in a bar and notice another guy wearing a PC shirt". A good description also works, I think it's easier to get into character using the british method (from the outside to within) rather than stanislavski/strassberg psychological motivations thing.

these are difficult questions to answer on the fly so that's why I think a drawing or good description helps get the ball rolling.
