Does anyone give their players a quiz to find out about their characters family, flaws, goals, backround, etc? I was thinking it might be a good way to jumpstart players thinking about their backround. Anyways, please post your quizes if you have them.

I've used this (http://www.geocities.com/poetess47/100questions.html) before. It works fairly well, if you can convince your players to answer 100 questions

I definately encourage my players to write up a backstory but sometimes they don't. In the very least I make them answer these questions:

1) Who are your friends (name 3. If you don't have any, tell me why)?

2) Who are your enemies (same)?

3) Where do you live?

4) What's your occupation?

5) How'd you get introduced to your skills (ie - how'd you get so good at Bluffing or swimming)?

Simple answers suffice. And it gives me enough to make the world seem "real". Before I do this, I give them a full description of the world with lots of stats. (the town is 70% human, 12% halfling, .. .. The major source of income is fur trapping and exporting. You're likely to be in the fur trade or the shipping trade or the exploring/cartography trade, or food/inn service). and on and on and on.
