One of my players got imprisoned in a town with tight security while trying to sneak out, the other players snuck out and can't get back in easily. How can I reunite them?

why is one of them imprisoned?
In other words: I need the story before I can help with anything.

Maybe
1. Have him escape easily(guards fall asleep or they go out for a round leaving him there).
2. Magic Wizard comes and gets him out....( i know).
Those are someways maybe.

Why don't you have them go and recruit some wizard to teleport in and then out with the prisoner? Maybe they then have to do something in exchange (adventure hook).

This happens occasionally.

I was playing in a Star Wars campaign, and my scoundrel/crack pilot's starfighter was disabled and he was captured by a Star Destroyer - the rest of the party escaped, and it was clearly a Big Problem from a "game flow" perspective... I mean, rescuing a prisoner from a Star Destroyer is practically a mini-campaign, or at least 2-3 sessions.

In our case, I played a "backup character" (which I had because occasionally we had sessions where it wasn't appropriate for my scoundrel to travel with the other party members, all Jedi) for a couple of sessions as we rescued my PC... when we found him in the cell, I reverted to playing my scoundrel. It was a good side-adventure, and it was pretty seamless.

The best campaigns feature challenges arising from "S-happens" inside the game!

If your player doesn't mind, have him play a "backup" during the rescue.

Some earth-shattering event happens (eg third group attacks the jailhouse) and the other pcs can rescue their friend, or he just gets out.

Alternatively, the pc goes for execution, and they are reunited in the town square, one on the gallows platform, the rest in the crowd. Let it go on from there, mwahahaha. I mean, if the reason he was put in jail is execution-worthy.

Seperate the imprisoned player from his fellows for the duration of the imprisonment or, as already mentioned, have him/her play an alternate character.

Maybe some thief type thats been hired to help break the PC out; which would accomadate the players presumed desire to have his character liberated?

Force the free players to make a deal with some cool evil creature, then have the creature free their ally. Or have the creture then try to eat him! ;)

The encounter was resolved, a backup Cleric was recruted until a dragon destroyed the entire town, including the prison. Thanks to all who replied!

Another way to resolve this problem easily is to have another prisoner, who has already been planning an escape, take the PC along with him. When they get out the other prisoner goes his own way.

This works as long as the party gets the heck out of Dodge, so to speak. :)

I would have the Captain of the guard or maybe a rich nobel spring bail in exchange for a quick little job to "pay back his debt to society". Maybe capture a wanted criminal or drum out a band of evil goblins raiding caravans or something. :)

Hmm, dragon came by and toasted the town? That can't be good for property values.
