| xanadu04-03-05, 10:23 PM | I posted this in the combat section, but I'd like to get some DM's feedback as well. One of my players is fascinated with his immovable rod. Long story short: one of my NPC horseman managed to run into one of these things on a full out charge. What happens? |
| Sildatorak04-03-05, 10:36 PM | Hmm...normally a DC 30 strength check is what it takes to move one of these, so I'd probably resolve it as a bull rush with the rod automatically rolling a total of 30 on its strength check (either that or with a +20 modifier). Odds are the horse is going to get knocked flat on its butt, even with a +2 for charging and a +4 for being large. |
| Laranis Callirr04-03-05, 10:39 PM | If he does fall, you could try using the rules of the Defenestrating Sphere spell to determine how far he goes and how much damage he takes. |
| Razoreface04-03-05, 11:05 PM | And it'll really suck if the rod has a semi-pointy end directed toward him. drop a jello cube on a nail, and that's what'll happen to the horse. Living creatures + immovable object = mess. |

| ehrin04-04-05, 12:22 AM | Uhm, drop the jello cube on ANY portion of a nail... the long part, the head, the point... same effect. |
| Sildatorak04-04-05, 02:04 AM | It would be more like hurling a leather glove filled with jello and stiched shut at a nail, IMO. |
| Arcen04-04-05, 02:20 AM | Wouldn't even have to be that sharp. If the horse hit one of the ends that much force is gonna impale it. |
| Big Tom04-04-05, 02:28 AM | I sort of see it as a 'clothesline' situation, either taking the rider off, or tripping the mount. Funny either way, for everyone else. |
| Koda7704-04-05, 02:46 AM | read that and thought hey what about a sword with a immovable rod built into the blade and a barb on the end, stabby stabby lift and activate now what a way to be taken out of combat |

| The_Caitiff04-04-05, 07:03 AM | Sounds like a nifty trap though. Two immovable rods with a metal wire stung between them right where you know PC's will soon be running. Better yet, make it razorwire, +5 Vorpal Razor wire. Trap springs, all doors slam shut while PC's are in a long, downward sloping hallway. Boulder drops behind them. "Behind you is the colossal boulder set to squish you, ahead you see a large empty room at the end of the Hallway. You think that if you can make it to the room you might be able to avoid the boulder." :schemes: Depending on how they roll they may be beheaded (nat 1 followed by a 10 or less on a reflex save as they hit the trap) or knocked prone (failed save) or somehow see the trap at the last second and avoid it. The boulder will destroy the wire so there is no risk of it falling into the PC hands, and you may get to kill a PC or two as the trap knocks them prone only to be crushed inder the boulder. |
| Callista04-04-05, 09:16 AM | +5 Vorpal, hmm? Sounds like a high-level trap. Fun, though. |
