Hi,

Your question is both profound and puzzling.

Do you have the Players Handbook yet? If not that should be your priority.
Do you have a group you can play with or do you plan on starting your own? If you plan on starting your own you should get the Dungeon Masters Guide and Monster Manual.

Those are the only important ones. From there, everything is by preference:

Do you prefer characters who are right in the thick of combat? I suggest Complete Warrior or Book of the Nine Swords.

Do you prefer sneaky characters? I suggest Complete Adventurer.

Do you prefer to play arcane spellcasters (like sorcerers, wizards, and bards)? Then I suggest Complete Arcane and then Complete Mage (in that order since one isn't as useful without the other).

Do you prefer divine spellcasters (Like Clerics, Paladins, and Druids)? Then I suggest Complete Divine.

Do you like dragons? Then Dragonomicon and Dragon Magic are good choices.

Remember, only the three core are needed, and they can be found right Here (http://d20srd.org)

Now THATS an argument I don't want to see started.

Back on topic: Although the SRD has everything you need, it can be a bit annoying to use while playing D&D if you don't have a laptop or similar device.

no, it's a joke! The bible is commonly referred to as "the good book". The guy said, "I don't have a good book" and know you get it.

I already knew that, I just didn't want someone go on an anti-religion rant.

You realize that by immediately going on the defensive you shifted the focus further towards a discussion of religion and personal beliefs than if you had just said "haha, bible...," right?

you need:
Player's Handbook
Dungeon Master's Guide
Monster Manual

These are the core books, there are a lot of suplements but you only need these 3 to play

-Money for a D&D book
-Suggestions for a book
-Suggestions for a D&D book
-Explain every single rule and, even though you don't understand $hit about it, you won't be new to D&D, by the time we're finished. :)
