| Gurei12-18-04, 08:40 AM | Lol, my Dm didnt wanted me to play a hexblade cuz he thought it was to powerfull   But now comes the best part. He wants me to play... a druid  Ehm yeah... So now I would actually like to play a druid. But since evryone thinks I am a powergamer ( really im not, I avoid broken builds but like ''theme builds'' (like teflammar shadow lord and psionics)) I cant come in play my druid to the max. So how do I make an enjoyable druid for both me and the rest of the party ( we got a cleric and a sorc/going archmage/something/something/something... (who is the real power gamer anyway? ). I havent got masters of the wild just PHB, DMG, MM1, MM3, CD, CW and maybe some FR books. Owh and my build needs a Dm aproval (he wants me to tell him what it can and cant do (weaknesses, strengths)). Hope you guys got some nice flavored druid builds :) PS: I like shapeshifting but would like to do some casting... |

Suggestion: http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=339 That's the character optimization board; there's a decent chance that with a little searching you could find several threads on your subject. Advanced Search would be a really good bet. Or hell, just repost over there. I'd offer to be more helpful, but I rarely "build" characters; I normally start them out at 1st level and then see where they take me. Sorry, dude. |
| Mr_Smiley12-18-04, 10:36 AM | I sugjest straight druid. It's already very powerful. You can still cast spells while in wildshape with the Natural Spell feat, which is found in the PHB. Some PrCs you might consider are Nature's Warrior and Warshaper (found in Complete Warrior). Both make you more powerful when wildshaping, at the cost of druid abilities and spellcasting. |
| e-z0r12-18-04, 10:41 AM | What kind of stupid answers are those? He already knows the druid is hella powerfull, he needs to know how to not make it too powerful because the others won't be having as much fun if it is. I say just avoid legendary ape and you'll be fine. Maybe. Oh and no VoP either. |
| Steelwill12-18-04, 02:25 PM | Try to stick to core, and you'll be ok. That's the best advice I can give, because the core rulebooks are the most balanced (note I said most balanced, not perfectly balanced) of the books available. Much of the splatbook stuff (Tome and Blood, Masters of the Wild, Sword and Fist, etc...) are not as well balanced, and can get overwhelming. My 2 cents. |
| Gurei12-20-04, 10:12 AM | The worse part is that I know how to build an uber druid :) I guess ill just try to get him some cool theme. A HIPPIE :D. Running arround naked... even if not shape changed :P and lots of flower power... Oh well. I guess ill create a less then optimized build ( in the way of I want a katana, why no bastard sword?, cuz katanas are SW33t!!) Maybe i can help the rest optimize theire chars... That would solve the problem :) Except that the DM doesnt knows how to handle a optimized party ;) |
| Aremthis12-20-04, 05:03 PM | Well, A DM should let you be what you want. But as far as being a druid goes... Druid are great if you atleast have some form of melee protectoin. Umm let me think... when your being a Druid just remember, atleast your not a cleric... But anyway. Definitly get an animal companoin. If there are no melee some animal companoins can be great. I take it you probobly would want to be a melee person. So your animal companoin could be like a wolf. Since you get to control the Things actoins threw Telepothy and telling it what to do, convince your DM that you should roll for it, so then your pretty much both melee and druid. Wich is nice. If your campains are anything like my Dm's, for the begining, get spells that would help with gathering informatoin and anything else campain wise that would seem usefull. Then in later levels well, there are a lot of things that reallly difficult to pick out without knowing the campain. So just go with what fits. Just remember, DRUID SPELLS ARE POWERFULL, well, depending on how you use them. |
| psionichamster12-20-04, 05:25 PM | take Nonlethal Substitution, prepare all spells at +1 lvl, do NO real damage to enemies for your animal, take a constrictor snake, wear it (and perhaps nothing or little else) and when you can, get a giant one grapple and preach to people about the "circle of life" go around tying up and healing enemies, especially little guys like goblins and kobolds, then don't let anyone kill them, since they are in your debt for their lives... consider polymorphing everything into an ewok, then starting your own colony talk to EVERYONE about nature/the circle of life/pollution/etc but the best part of this, and the most important to the game... dont ruin the game with your antics... its hard but you can be the "hippy treehugger" who wont kill anyone you wont eat (like goblins) but doesn't kill the party's dynamic cursing people to not be evil is bound to be a good RP element...even if it wont work to make em good, it should sway them to neutrality also, talk to the DM about your "build" b4 play starts (i know he asked you to do that, but really stress what you would like to DO, rather than what you're capable of destroying/killing/turning into plants) the hamster |
| Phrennzy12-20-04, 06:49 PM | The druid is missing an eye, the results from an attack by a bear when he was young. The attack also left him with a slight limp. So you have bad depth perception (-1 to attack rolls, -2 ranged attacks). You also have a blind side (-2 to spot). The limp reduces your move by 10' and your dex is only 8. These infirmities follow you into your shapechanged forms. Since the wounds have healed many years ago, a heal/regenerate will not repair the damage, though a wish/miracle would. You decided to become a druid to understand the animal that attacked you. Use only core books. Straight Druid. Go. |
| PhaedrusXY12-21-04, 12:31 AM | I was in a group where a guy roleplayed his druid as a drug dealer. He knew about all kinds of herbs, mushrooms, etc, and would sell them to the local criminal element in bulk. Since he really didn't care much for the laws of society anyway, he saw nothing wrong with it I guess. At least the junkies weren't out tearing up his forest looking for the stuff themselves. :P |
