| DemonsOfRazgriz04-05-05, 06:39 PM | What are the consequences when one of your stats reaches zero for example strength or charisma. We were battling a half-orc with two scimitars one dealt con damage the other strength and my Dm firmly beleives if one of your stats hits zero you are dead. I know there was a thread called 0 Dexterity but I can't find it. I already lost a few charachters because of it. |
| Master_of_Flames04-05-05, 06:43 PM | 0 strength, as stated in the phb, is instant death. |
| Arrowhen04-05-05, 06:49 PM | 0 strength, as stated in the phb, is instant death. Nope; you may be thinking of Constitution. According to the SRD: A character with Strength 0 falls to the ground and is helpless. A character with Dexterity 0 is paralyzed. A character with Constitution 0 is dead. A character with Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma 0 is unconscious. |
| The Equalizer04-05-05, 07:11 PM | Yeah 0 constitution means instant death. 0 Strength means that you are unable to move, helpless. You shouldn't be dying from 0 ability scores unless you reach 0 constitution. You can be Coup de graced though, because you are helpless whenever you reach 0 in any other ability score. |
| LordArcheron04-05-05, 08:12 PM | I image the situation how a character behaves if it's INT, CHA or WIS is 0. What is the different? INT 0: The Person is jumping like a really insane foolish fool around? He should get then an foolish deflection bonus to his AC. lol |
| Edymnion04-05-05, 08:43 PM | If Con=0, you're dead. If Str=0, you're a limp ragdoll on the ground, but alive. If Dex=0, you're stiff as a board, but alive. If Int=0, you're in a coma, but you're alive. If Wis=0, you're unconcious, but alive. If Cha=0, you're completely and utterly out of it, but you're alive. Only Con=0 will kill you, because it governs hitpoints, and Con 0 effectively means a negative infinity modifier to your hitpoints. Only exception is when you're strength drained by a wraith (or a wright, or a shadow, or one of those things, whichever one it is that does it), and raise as a new wraith (or whatever) a couple rounds later. |
| Unidentified04-05-05, 08:47 PM | Okay... Strength 0 means that the character cannot move at all. He lies helpless on the ground. Dexterity 0 means that the character cannot move at all. He stands motionless, rigid, and helpless. Constitution 0 means that the character is dead. Intelligence 0 means that the character cannot think and is unconscious in a coma-like stupor, helpless. Wisdom 0 means that the character is withdrawn into a deep sleep filled with nightmares. Charisma 0 means that the character is withdrawn into a catatonic, coma-like stupor, helpless. |

| Keenath04-06-05, 11:21 AM | Only Con=0 will kill you, because it governs hitpoints, and Con 0 effectively means a negative infinity modifier to your hitpoints. Actually, that's correct, but for the wrong reason. The rules specifically say that 0 Con means death, but they also say that you always have 1 HP per HD, no matter how hugely negative your con modifier is. Specifically, "If a character’s Constitution score drops, then he loses 1 hit point per Hit Die for every point by which his Constitution modifier drops. A hit point score can’t be reduced by Constitution damage or drain to less than 1 hit point per Hit Die." So a wizard who rolled 2 on every hit die and 10 CON would have 22 HP at 10th level (the two extra are from 1st level, where you get a full die). If he got CON drained to 1, which is a -5 modifier, he would theoretically have 22-50 = -28 HP, and he's dead. But the rule cancels that, and you actually have 10 HP, one per hit die. Conversely, a fighter who had 10 CON but rolled maximum on every die would have 100 HP. If he got drained to 1 CON, he still has 50 HP -- but then, just like the wizard, if he loses one more point of CON, he dies instantly. |
