One time when we were in a dungeon a mindflayer was going to shoot a death arrow spell at my Dwarf Fighter. My friends sisters' halfling rogue saw it but pushed me out of the way. She got hit with the blast. She was a real funny character and everybody missed her a lot.

This is back when i was playing 2E, and the DM used the Critical hit and Fumble table.

I had a low level dwarf fighter who thought that he could beat everything (and he was pretty good with his weapons...but he was only level 5...still, he became the de facto leader of the group just by browbeating everyone in it). In any case, i forgot how we found the dragon but we ended up in an evil dragon's lair. Everyone was scared, except for the dwarf. As the dragon was talking (the dragon was offering a way out alive, by getting a certain hard to get item for him), my dwarf kept yelling insults and stuff. Finally, the dragon had enough and told my dwarf that if i didnt shut up, he was just going to fry everyone. My dwarf yelled back, "Give me your best shot!".

One powerful, nearly maxed out breath weapon attack later, my dwarf was the only one not burnt into a crisp by the dragon (i only had like 3HP left but everyone else in the party had died). So my dwarf yelled out, "That the best you can do?! Now its MY turn!!"

My dwarf proceeded to charge the dragon, only to fumble his attack roll and end up critically hitting himself. Basically, a half-burnt screaming dwarf charged the dragon, and ended up falling to the ground. His double-edged battleaxe went flying into the air and ended with a thud in my dwarf's head. It was a kodak moment...

Much hilarity ensued...

We had pc in our group who tryed to kill a dragon that wasent the fighting type. As I realized that dragon was not evil, i flew down to non leathel the samuri. He was really upset and was clutching a note and tears were rolling down his eyes. After a few rounds he tryed to cudegra himself. So i tripped him. Then He tryed to Cudegra himself again so i disarmed him of his katana. Then he wipped out a wakashasie and I missed my disarm attempt and he killed himself. Turns out the note said that his father was on tril for handleing coutraband weapons and was going to be sentenced to die in 3 days. I gess he thought he was too late and he never told the rest of the party, he wanted the dragon to kill him so he could die an honerable death.

very sad. poor dead samuri.

My cleric of Corellon was dumped into a lake by a dragon. Wearing a breastplate, he had some trouble staying afloat. With a LOT of effort, (read: rolling a 14 and higher for about 8 times) he managed to get within 5ft of the shore. He failed his swim checks from there on and drowned. :weep: So close...

My Tiefling Ranger learned while spying on the BBEG's pet necromancer, that three of her friends had died while she and her love were trying to save Darromar from a Fleshgolem infestation. After having lost the majority of the troops she had led into the city (and after finding out another she thought was a friend turned out being the BBEG) the loss of three of her closest friends was just too much. Finding out that the three were still alive later on, meant more tears though those were of joy.

In a very long running campaign, one of our PCs picked up the Leadership feat. His cohort was his younger brother, who was a bard that we restored from being undead.
The bard was very well liked, so much so that when the player of the PC left the game, his PC left but the Bard stayed. Even ended up marrying one of the other PCs.

After an unfortunate TPK, the Bard PC was captured and turned back into an undead. We were forced to fight him at one point. He drew us into some pocket dimension where one by one he was sucking party members into darkness.
The only way to fight him was to find one of two items which were linked to him and represented him inside this dimension. His wife had used he wedding ring to find his, which was one of them. She was clutching it begging him to stop.
Using detect evil, my PC found the other, his Mask. Holding it in my hands I demanded he surrender.
He refused.
I didn't want to destroy him, he was a good friend, so I begged him to surrender.
He refused, saying "Kill me, or I kill them."
With no other options, I channeled all my lay on hands for the day through the mask into him, obliterating him.

Then, the dimension faded, leaving us all sitting on the dock, the ashes of his Mask floating away in the sea breeze.
