| FWHGilby12-06-05, 11:40 AM | This goes back to a previous game I had. The GM changed rules and game mechanics over the course of the game. ie No crits at first then crits were introduced. Only pcs could crit(outta balance right there). Classes were altered SO much that you could only get anywhere in the game as a human thief or fighter. Other desirable classes such as mage or cleric were SEVERELY nerfed especially the cleric...ie all religions outlawed upon penalty of death over the entire campaign. Explanation, somehow 1 god subverted all others and took over everything somehow without all the other gods laying the smack down and not knowing what was going on. I eventually stopped playing in the game it got too ridiculous for me even if it was a friends game. Is there any other way besides to stop playing to counter the insanity? |
| simon_tage12-06-05, 11:57 AM | Depends on the DM I would guess. If it was my campaign and a player just didn't find it fun/believable and wanted out I would take a second look at things. Doesn't mean that I would change anything per se but I would re-examine the issues brought before me. |
| HyperVyperBeam12-06-05, 01:38 PM | Buy him the DMG and tell him that he could use the help. Oh, and don't forget the obligatory pat on the head. |
| FWHGilby12-06-05, 03:16 PM | I know I had brought up a couple things to the GM before. However I never brought up the fact that his roomate and GIRLFRIEND(redflag there) recieved all the magic items. Neither here nor there he's still a friend but I won't play in any more games the guy runs. |
| WayneTheGame12-06-05, 03:26 PM | Oh, and don't forget the obligatory pat on the head. By "pat on the head" you mean beat with a stick/hammer/frozen piece of meat, right? :D |
| OctoberRaven12-06-05, 03:29 PM | Play another game with someone else as the DM. Out-of-game, Talk only about the second game instead the one you're playing now. When the DM of the first game asks about the session, simply say 'meh' and continue your convo. He'll either a) stop DMing totally, b)improve his game or c)ask how to improve his game. |
| Milandros12-06-05, 05:06 PM | If you actually want a real option instead of hammer gun jokes, there is only one. Talk to him. Explain that you're not having fun; you're almost having fun, which is why you are still there, but something's not quite right. Do it with respect - after all, this DM has put a lot of his own time and effort into his game. Discuss what isn't working. Ask if something can be changed to make it work. Discuss this with the other players as well, get them to spek to the DM individually too. Be basically positive - "I like this, and this, but that is spoiling it". If, of course, he's one of those idiot egomaniacal "the-pcs-are-here-for-me-to-pwer-trip-with-and-the-players-are-here-to-worship-me" types, you have little option but to leave. Basically, assume good will on everyone's part and work from there. No raised voices, no insults, no trying to make each other feel bad. 90% of all problems can be solved with a short discussion. |
| TheModernSamurai12-09-05, 11:21 PM | If you want to keep your group together, talk to him. If you want to ruin everyone's gaming experience, but still get through to the DM, try this: Don't go along with his storyline. Example. DM: The old man is obviously hurt and crawls towards you, mutteri- PC: I go to the tavern and try to find my long lost brother. DM: The man is your long lost brother! PC: I kill him. I hate my long lost brother. Despite the fact that no one will game with you for the duration of your natural life, it would be moderately funny. In a sick and twisted sort of way. |
| The Grig Fiddler12-10-05, 01:32 AM | Buy him the DMG and tell him that he could use the help. Oh, and don't forget the obligatory pat on the head. I agree. Minus the pat give him a swift kick to the groin. In my gaming group there are some crazy house rules and even though it is the DMs campaign we all talk about and agree on these rules. |
| Rhomphaia12-10-05, 05:11 AM | By "pat on the head" you mean beat with a stick/hammer/frozen piece of meat, right? :D I actually prefer to use a thawed leg of lamb...doesn't hurt as much, but the squishing sound is infinately more satisfying. |
| FreeTheSlaves12-10-05, 08:44 AM | Is there any other way besides to stop playing to counter the insanity? Play with friends who care about each other having fun & take up the dming. It's the only way to be sure. |
| High Octane12-10-05, 05:35 PM | Get a notepad. Play another game with him and his not fun way of playing and take SPECIFIC notes on how he was unfair or making the game not fun for you. Next day, talk to him. With your notes handy. It will make you sound like less of a general complaint and more like you put time, thought, and energy into how he can improve his game. If he gets defensive over your criticism, he has no business DMing. |
| ASAP12-10-05, 06:05 PM | I like to "creatively solve" problems. It went like this: DM: You have saved the girl from the hands of the evil cult that was trying to sacrifice her to resurect the evil God. ME: Cool Now this Girl held the power to bring back BBEG (God type), but the catch was that she had to be ritually sacraficed. Being the problem solver that I am, I realised that our group had no chance of protecting her from a whole nation of evil doers. So here was my solution: ME: Lets kill the girl OTHER PC's: WHAT!?!?! DM: WHAT!?!?! ME: If we kill her how can the bad guys ritually sacrafice her? Its for the greater good if yo think about it, one life for the world. OTHER PC's: Hrmmm.... DM: ...... That problem was solved. Next problem please. Sometimes the simplest thing will do everything that you were looking to do.... |
