The name states it. On what occasion do you use the multiple Perform skills. Please use numbers and state what kind of Perform is involved.

1. (dance) Victory dance after a fight. Hopefully you roll high or else... :D

2. (anything) Get some pocket change in a tavern/bar/inn.

7) (Dance) I know it's been said before, but you can combine it with a singing bard to put on a three hour show for zombies that are just planning on eating you and want you to sit down and sh*t *p so they can get started! Quite possibly one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

DM: Okay, roll a Perform...
Me: I rolled 19, so 28 total.
DM: They're exstatic.
Me: Really?
DM: No, not really, they want to eat you!
Me: But they're entertained right?
DM: .....yes... very...

My girlfriend was playing in a friend's campaign. elf social rogue. (lvl. 5-ish?) Anyway, she was acting as another character's "slave" for purposes of successfully infiltrating this kingdom to kill the king. She was in the marketplace, left alone, while her "owner" was off doing his usual important stuff. Being a rogue with obscene skills (as all rogues do), she maxed perform (exotic dance) just for the hell of it. She was bored in the market, so she climbed into the fountain, rolled a modified 32, and incited a riot in the town square.

Good thing she didn't have one of those 10ft poles with her to add to that Perform (exotic dance) check.

Behold :behold: the poledancer...

I know a guy who played a monk once. We game to a portal who could only be opened if someone kissed in front of it, so he grabbed a girl we were there to rescue and used Perform (tantric sex) on her successfully opening the portal.

The cleric in our game decided he wanted to perform a victory dance so I had him do an untrained perform(dance) check, he rolled a 1. Oh what a fool he looked shuffling around embarrasingly.

It's a simple recipe really.

Leadership feat.
200 followers with ranks in perform.
Give them all percussion instruments.
They assist other on my bard's perform check.

Cheers

23) Perform (Oratory[Drill Sergeant]): Inspire Courage and Inspire Competence the old-fashioned way.

YEW CALL THAT LOCKPICKING YEW LOUSY LITTLE MAGGOT YEW MAKE ME WANNA VOMIT MY OLD GRANDMOTHER COULD PICK LOCKS BETTER THAN THAT WITH HER GOOD EYE SHUT NOW LETS GO GO GO GO GO!!!!

24) Perform (Sing[80s Music]): If you have a very silly campaign and don't care about the anachronism (Dr. Evil: "I wrote this!")....e.g.

Corey Heart, "Never Surrender"
Billy Ocean, "When the Going Gets Tough"
John Parr, "St. Elmo's Fire"
Queen, "We Will Rock You" (as evidenced by the carefully researched historical docu-drama _A Knight's Tale_)
Bonnie Tyler, "Holding Out for a Hero" (whether or not you've seen _Shrek 2_)

25) Perform (Oratory[Sports Commentary]). See note for #24; also note that I am not liable for damage to your campaign or person if you actually try to implement this.

bard: "aaaand it's another whiff from the ogre, who just can't seem to make a serious impact through that dwarven-forged platemail!"

bard in color-commentator voice: "That's right, Bob, that steel was forged by the dwarves of Northridge and cooled in the mountain springs of Andurin, and enchanted with the tears of the nymph Vilia to deflect the blows of the wicked, bringing this ogre to oh-for-3 on the fight!"

bard: "And here comes the retort, it looks like a quick jab to the left - wait - no- it's a full two-handed swing, there's some meat behind this one and OH THAT'S GOING TO LEAVE A MARK!!!"

bard in color-commentator voice: "That's quite a gash across that ogre's midsection, it looks like having the ancestral sword of his great-grandfather re-enchanted has really helped out Sir Dorian, who's now 13-for-18 on the month and 6-for-8 against giantkin!"

ogre: "AAAAAAAAARGH!!!!"

35. Perform (Russian Roulette) Just load a broken crossbow or something and hold it to your head, if the trigger doesn't work, then pass it on and hope that it fires on someone else...
36. Perform (Celine Dion) Torture your enemies until they beg for mercy, all who hear this make a will save, even the singer.

Most of these "1001" threads for generally useless skills, spells, and items have a good number of actually good suggestions that inspire me to get more creative. This one is disturbingly devoid of anything but a couple loopholes and lots of humor. Can no one really come up with truly useful applications of the Perform skill outside of bardic music checks?

No.

Actually....no. It's for flavor, money, and for bardic music.

I didn't contribute anything because I didn't have any ideas (hence my post), and this thread didn't have anything useful beyond some game-breaking tricks until your post above.

51: Dubious game-breaking abuse of the skill system, taking ranks in anything from Perform (Climb) to Perform (Use Magic Device), rather than the actual skills. Claim that you are so good at Climbing, Diplomacy, etc, that it counts as "art" rather than just a skill.

52: As above, but with magic instead of skills. Perform (Time Stop) or Perform (True Ressurection) might raise some eyebrows.

51. Just for the heck of it, and because someone would figure it out eventually... Perform (Wis). that's right, your eyes are not decieving you, I said Perform (WISDOM). My friend thought this might be fun. We haven't told him that the campaign has started yet.

my current character has perform (oratory) and tells epic tales of HIS bravery in combat....Of course he is a elven cleric/wozard who stays in the back alot. But according to him he has slayed huge numers of foes.

55. If under attack by intelligent enemies, perform (song) in their native togue could open the door to diplomacy.
56. Perform (sing horribly off-key) deal 1d6 sonic damage to all nearby.
57. Perform (mimicry) pretending to be the BBEG or other authority figure to get henchmen and underlings to do what you want.
58. Perform (taunting); make enemies so mad they can't shoot straight.
59. Perform (taunting); make ranger with Hamster and berserk mad enough to break out of jail.
60. Perform (harp); put Fluffy to sleep.

Perform checks that are good for making money:
61. Perform (Sob Story) - My sister is extremely sick, practically one foot in the grave. I just need a few (million) gold to get the cure. Please, it's not too much to ask. I promise I won't spend it on the kickass uber-magical sword in the window.
62. Perform (Sexual Favours) - 500 gold for a successful check, but be careful, as natural 20s could cause some extra, unwanted heirs.

And one that won't get you much money:
63. Perform (Insult Comic) - Hey, jerkface! Your shirt looks like it was sewn by a blind ogre, and your breath smells like an incontinent orc's behind! Like the show? 500 gold.
Angel Black

08-29-06, 09:11 PM
64 - perform(air guitar (http://airguitar.tml.hut.fi/media.html))

65 - Perform ( Crazy Frog (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/4210407.stm) )

67- Perform to distract people while the rogue is doing his business
68- Perform to get fans and money
69- Perform to seduce the ladies

70- Perform while doing anything (running, riding, etc) to put everybody on shame ("He is so great that he can sing while slashing ogres !!!!")

58. Perform (taunting); make enemies so mad they can't shoot straight.

There is actually a prestige class that can do this called the divine prankster or something. It's a gnome class from Races of Stone.

71. Use Perform (Comedy) with such great success that any hidden watchers will get the giggles and thus reveal themselves. Before you say anything, this actually happened in a game of ours when the same gnome that gave me the knowledge mentioned above got a 40 something on his check.

73. I've been kicking the idea of a Dwarven Bard that has Perform (Percussion) to use the drums for signaling during combat. I figured that coupled with Knowledge (Warfare) attached, it would make for a very sound (no pun intended) character history-to-current profession bridge, by saying that he was initially a signal man for a dwarven military unit. Has endless coordination tactical usage.

the way I make perform work, is that if it is already an ability, or does not translate into perform well, takeing ranks in it only makes you look good doing it. So for example 20 ranks in perform tumble will make you look pretty good whiler tumbleing but NOT acctuly improve your ability to tumble.

74. Perform (sign language). I tried to get this for my bard because one of the NPCs put a silent spell(or something similar) on himself and therefore did charades to communicate to everyone else. Unfortunately, the NPC and I didn't speak drow (sign language is considered drow for some reason), so I couldn't get it.

75. Perform (Cooking) Like The French Chef. So much for trail rations!
"And now we place the chicken over the fire! doops!"

76. Perform (Acting) thousands of uses. Be a diplomat from another country. A sadistic interrogator. A special forces police man from other lands seeking a band of criminals (your party) and taking them into custody to take em back to you lands. Set yourself up as some infamous criminals to infiltrate a gang and learn information! Heck you could even be a lawyer for one of your team mates and perform so well they get away with anything! Even dieing is possible, just don't do so well you convince yourself!
"Everything’s... getting dark!! *cough cough* I've… I always loved you."

78. Perform (oratory) to stop a riot. "Friends, Country men... SHUUUSH!!"

79. Perform (anything) to get a lower price on an item by making the merchant laugh.
"How about 10g? No? *tap dance* how about now?"

80. Perform a weapons (Exhibition), scare your foes or impress your allies!
"Yes... But can you do this?!"

81. Perform (anything)to distract a monster in battle so your party can flank them.
"HEY LOOKIT ME LOOKIT ME!"
blooddemon

78. Perform (Oral) to stop a riot. "Friends, Country men... SHUUUSH!!"

[/I]"

You are thinking of oratory, not oral. Unless you want to stop a riot that way.
Pajaul

01-18-07, 12:20 PM
Eh, off the top of my head, both mean 'use of the mouth'.

Though I don't think you could stop a riot by performing sed act. sure they'd stop to watch, but once it was 'over' they'd just cheer then return to rioting. Great distraction though. hmmm.

82. Perform (oral) for a stellar distraction, or to get on some lonely house-wife's (merchant-wife’s?) good side. "I cast Magic Mouth and have it sing Barry White."

83. Perform (Sing) Hit that high note and you can shatter glass! Or even crystal, just imagine you come across a monster with alchemist fire strapped to him in vials. Sure you could cast 'shatter' but if you were out of spells for the day, this could also work. heh heh.
"No Mr. BBEG, I expect you to DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

84. Perform (Sing) Wail in a realistic way to help disguise yourself as a banshee.
"I'm not an adventurer, I'm a banshee just like you, SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE??"

85. Perform (Sing) If out of spells and you still need to cast 'lullaby', just sing one instead. "Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep Mr. Guard, and I hope you never wake up! *coup de grace*"

87: I had a dashing, swashbuckling bard/duelist with perform (in bed)
I also took the feat endurance just for this very purpose.
