Has your DM ever been really anoyed at you, or planned a game where you were suposed to become helpless due to a magical du hickey- only for you to say, resist magial affect or, anti veom.

for example,i'll put 1
1. flesh eating diesese designed to mortaly wound PC's
- paladin has imunity to disiese
- DM = :headexplo

I as mainly just wondering beacause there has to be so many ways to get around a DM trying to instant death you..... or maby not.... PROVE ME WROG CHILDREN.... PROVE ME WRONG!!

*My character has just headed up the steps to a guardhouse, and I'm awaiting magical support before I continue."

"They see you, a lone figure, standing at the head of the stairs, apparently waiting patiently for someone. The 4 units of elite Drow Warriors surrounds you, and begin to attack."

"...Er... they're blenders, right? Two weapon fighting?"

"Yup."

"Withdraw, double move, I fly up 25 feet. You said it's a 40 foot tall room, that should give me breathing room on all sides."

*grits teeth* "... ... ... That's it? They decide you're utterly harmless and head off to kill other things."

*thinking* "Thank god I never point out that I have wings."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Same session;
DM: "Roll a reflex save for indirect fire."
Other PC: Damnit!
*Dice tumble*
Other; "I made it!"
Me: "I stand as cover for the mage."
DM: "Okay, that's 27 points of arrow damage to you, as 15 arrows fly into you. Fortunately, they don't effect your ally, since you took all the hits."
Me *calmly looks over the description of the modified 'arrow wall' amulet I have* "Hmm. okay. Arrows hit me."
DM: "Yeah... ... ... Damnit!"

I remember my first game... I bought lots of those items from the PhB, stuff like chalk, rope etc, you know just in case they would come in handy.
Actually the rope was put too good use several times.
The party's dwarven fighter fell into a pit trap, really deep pit, way too deep for him to climb out, he yells "am I going to die here?!" then my character(rogue) pulls out rope from his backback and smiles. The DM looked slightly surprsied and dissapointed, I think he wanted to kill the dwarf.

There are many ways for a DM to get rid of a PC that's unbalancing. Generally, I talk to a player to change the behavior before resorting to them.

1) in the instance of mr flight guy above there, even blenders have hand crossbows (nearly all drow do). Ethos of the drow isn't to give up. It's to adapt and kill. 4 elite units, we'll say 5 man squads, headed by a drow taskmage and a drow cleric, I think could handle wings in an enclosed space.

2) You know that sword you bought back there? Yeah, it was a demon-possessed item. congrats, mr level 6 character, you've been possessed by a balor. Make a dc 32 will save.

3) Whilst out in the wilderness, a dragon, whose food source was recently depleted in a nearby raid by giants, flies by, grabs a PC, and flies off.

4) Fighter in full plate, make a DC 28 balance check or go overboard.

5) Swift rogue, you've been bitten, let's see you make a grapple check against swallow whole.

6) Wily mage, make me a fortitude save.

7) Noble cleric, or druid ( a bit harder ), you seem to have fallen into a 200 foot deep pit in the middle of a dead magic zone.

8) Fighter with 400 hp? Improved invisibility, (surprise round)Avasculate, Sudden quickened avasculate, (1st round)power word kill.

9) look, every monster you've faced for 6 encounters has a death effect?

The main campaign I play in is extremely tough. We are all good optimizers (DM included) and enjoy a true combat challenge. This means that as soon as the party gets access to resurrection magic all the gloves come off (his NPC's want to win as much as our characters do and will do anything in their power to achieve this), and in the most fights you have to give your best to survive(this really takes away the 'I am a hero; I am invincible' feeling and I like it).

So we are fighting our way through the underground stronghold of the crime syndicate in Sigil who, in this campaign is lead by a half-ilithid whisper gnome elocator with a lot of personalty issues. Two of his most trusted men and his best assassins are halfling twins (one was swordsage/wizard/arcane trickster, the other is rogue/monk/shadowdancer, both using TWF for insane amounts of SA damage). As we are about to enter the boss' office(he isn't there), these two little fellows have heard us coming and have set up an ambush on both sides of the door, hiding. My druid steps through the door(dire bear wild shape). Evil grin on the DM's face:'Roll initiative'.His 2 halflings go first, as expected, so my druid gets the 2 full attacks(about 12 attacks if I recall correctly and they all hit). DM 'You take 12 d4+24+12d6 cold+46d6 SA(that's average 257 damage, more than enough to send a 17th level druid to his maker) and I want you to make 4 foprtitude saves vs. Black Lotus poison; Or should we just pursue the logical assumption that you die?' Me:' Let's see: 17th level druid, immune to poison. Heavy fort. armor, immune to SA' DM:'....'

Even wild shape armor only confers its armor bonus while wild shaping... not the other abilities. Heavy Fort is off while you're in an alternate form.

The poison though, that's a good save.

It wasn't the wild armor enhancement from the DMG. I was wearing wilding clasps(MotW if I remember correctly-don't have my books with me now to check).
