| fuzzeymonk01-30-06, 10:51 AM | i'm serious, i need to know how to stop those blood suckers, all help is appriciated. Backround info: i'm playing a 7th level druid, good at summoning. 1. use Earthbind to stop his gas cloud from escaping then grab a bit in a bottle and wait for the sun? |
| Druidsrule01-30-06, 11:04 AM | 2. Eat garlic. All the bloody time. For every meal. 3. Use garlic as chewing gum. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs01-30-06, 11:52 AM | 1. Talk your DM into allowing called shots. 2. Get bow. 3. Stake vampire with arrows and wait for sunrise. |
| Solidcobra01-30-06, 01:05 PM | Simple. Just pin, then coup de grace, him. If you can't wait for the sun to rise, chuck him into a river. three rounds later, adios. Or, y'know, stand inside your house and spit him to death. |
| Shaggy_Shaggs01-30-06, 01:12 PM | A pinned opponent is not helpless and may not be coup de graced. Also a CDG is an automatic critical hit and vampires, being undead, are immune to those anyway. |
| Black Kitten01-30-06, 01:25 PM | Use a combination of repellents to ensure he doesn't get close to you, then use all kinds of summoning and spell/attack tricks on him to get him down, preferrably bound and out of your reach. Also, look at his feet, never look up. Use a source of light to have him cast a shadow. Things like that and then beat him to crap. |
| phelanarcetus01-30-06, 01:40 PM | If you have any control over when you battle, make it during the day. At night, hole up in a protected area where they can't get at you (garlic, Celestial Brilliance, Hallow, anything and everything you can do). Take the fight to them during the day. It should be relatively easy to damage them to the point where they choose to flee. Then you have two options, really. - Prevent them from fleeing back to their coffin (ideally keeping them in sunlight). - Track them to the coffin before they can recover enough to take actions, and stake them then. Anything you can do to bring sunlight in... blast the roof off of the house, Stone Shape a shaft in, whatever. When I faced vampires, we had a variant Dimension Door that actually opened a doorway; that allowed us to bring sunlight almost anywhere. Smart vampires will retreat to a well-secured coffin as soon as they're in danger. Chances are you won't be able to prevent the retreat, which means that you need to hit them when they're incapacitated in the coffin. It's hard to keep them in sunlight or under water, because they can go gaseous and then how do you keep them where they are? Now they move pretty slowly; 20 feet though it is perfect manueverability. In sunlight they can only take one action per round, which means that if you can get them into sunlight and grappled, say, one round is shifting, and then they have one round's single movement; get them in a 25-ft radius of sunlight and they're done. Or if you get them deep enough under water. But the most reliable method is probably to find their lair. In battle, just reduce them to 0 hp, so they flee. Now you have an hour from when they reach the coffin before they can take any actions. That lets you stake them and then destroy them. Alternately, they have two hours to reach that coffin. Not any coffin, but its home coffin. So if you can destroy the home coffin, and the vampire doesn't have an alternate one, then reducing it to 0 hp is as good as destroying it, because it can't get to its coffin in those two hours. |
| turtlemonkey01-30-06, 02:12 PM | A person in the grapple cant use the coup de grace, but someone outside of the grapple can. (Same idea that a person in the grapple isnt deined dex bonus against person in grapple with them, but is denied the dex bonus to someone otuside the grapple attacking them). unless i really missed that part im pretty sure thats how it works but anyway ideas dust of dryness, or the decanter of endless water... use a wall of stone/ice/ whatever to trap the vamp in it.. get inside and use the pellet version of dust of dryness to break 100 gal of water, or release the decanter top... wait.. you have just created your own drowning vampire |
| Shaggy_Shaggs01-30-06, 02:23 PM | coup de grace: A full-round action that allows an attacker to attempt a killing blow against a helpless opponent. When an opponent has pinned you, you are held immobile (but not helpless) for 1 round. Sneak attack from outside all you want, grapplers are denied their Dex mods to AC, but they aren't valid coup de grace targets simply from being pinned. |
| fuzzeymonk01-30-06, 02:33 PM | These are fine but i would like to know if i could cast Earthbind to keep is gasous form from fleeing. |
| tak3thatback01-30-06, 07:18 PM | Your a druid... use healling spells on them. Then, you can follow the cloud or trap him. Get a ring of free movement as well (can never be grappled :D ) |
| turtlemonkey01-30-06, 09:14 PM | my bad. your right. i knew the deined ac bonus.. was pretty sure about the coup de grace. but i wasnt. thanks for that. i just realized i messed up once as a dm in an earlier session. o well just learn from mistakes |
| Demonfey01-30-06, 09:56 PM | Well, you did put 101 ways to stop a vampire, so it's only natural people are going to do this. For my idea: holy water balloons. |
| CryoSilver01-30-06, 10:01 PM | 10: Disintegrate + Resilient Sphere + sunlight |
| Kresalak01-30-06, 10:32 PM | 11. Stake gun. Fires 100 a second, holds 100 stakes, takes 2 hours to reload. Anyone who catches the reference wins at the internet. 12. Smash it, then follow the mist until you find it's coffin. Then stake it. Problem solved. |
| Silverthumb12801-30-06, 10:54 PM | Open a Gate, and push him into the Plane of Elemental Fire. :D Or Positive Energy Plane. |
| Grier01-30-06, 11:51 PM | Sluggy Freelance. I win the internets. EDIT: S'ceuse me, I win at the internets. And my imput: When you find his coffin, pour about 10 gallons of Holy Water in it. :D |
| Journeyman Samwise01-31-06, 12:24 AM | Celerity 5, Protean 3, Obsfuscate 2. oh wait wrong publisher- |
| ShadowDragon868501-31-06, 12:53 AM | Celerity 5, Protean 3, Obsfuscate 2. oh wait wrong publisher- :heehee |
| gorfnad the shiznit01-31-06, 01:38 AM | Item of continuous bless water + sovereign glue + decanter of endless water = holy squirt gun 1 flask (pint) of holy water deals 2d4 damage to undead or evil outsiders, 8 pints in a gallon, 30 gallons per round if decanter of endless water is set to geyser mode {2d4 x 8 x 30} = 480d4 points of damage to undead or evil outsiders in a 20ft line |
| JungeonJeff01-31-06, 08:27 AM | Garlic Golem... |
| Silverthumb12801-31-06, 09:52 AM | Garlic Golem... Sunlight Elemental! :D |
| Grier01-31-06, 10:44 AM | Positive Energy Elemental! Serious undead hate. There is one in either MMII or MMIII, I think, called a xi-yan or something like that? |
| High Octane01-31-06, 10:54 AM | Shotgun. Instead of buckshot it has mini-crosses. |
| storm140201-31-06, 07:30 PM | Sunlight and coup de gras is the best u can come up with? Cmon ppl what about holy water or your easy no bake cleric who always rises to the occassion. To kill a vampire always read EVERY production book on them, u'll notice that cure spells harm them therefore just push a nice little cure spell to share the love. Or you could always do a undeath to death spell. Or if you are the nasty DM who likes to introduce exotic races into campaigns and play vampires alot like me then when u play them you can see the limitations. Vampire sustain themselfs on blood it doesnt matter as much in D&D what kind of blood so long as it is blood. Just use some caution certain bloods can "such as dragons" Produce new effects on vampires examples of ideas come from "Lords of the Night vampire" by bottledimpgames. Or the Libris mortus has more into things to boost vampires so undoubtibly there are more into weaknesses. |
| Artifact_of_Time01-31-06, 09:47 PM | Oky find a 15/15 fighter/preist Dwarf....Ya hard to find if your not in the game I play in. Get a big keg of explosive 'beer'. set keg in corner. have Dwarf walk up and grap the Vampire. Gets bit once, Have him walk over to the keg, Gets bit seconed time, Have Mage fling a fireball at the keg with Dwarf sitting on it, Gets bit third time. Big exploshion....smoke clears and the dwarf is sitting on his ass coughing up ash. Pray to all the gods that the Dwarf is not a vampire now. 3 years latter and they still havent found the answer. |
| Loren Pechtel02-01-06, 12:53 AM | Shotgun. Instead of buckshot it has mini-crosses. You would have a hard time getting them in, and why do you need them anyway? It seems to me a shotgun full of toothpicks would be a *BIG* problem for a vampire. |
| CryoSilver02-01-06, 05:56 PM | Or a shotgun that fires positive energy. |
| JamesDruidDM02-01-06, 06:27 PM | Hmmm Exploding garlic gas traps then Disintigrate then gather the ashes and toss them in the first avalible stream/river or Get a cleric and pop that sucker or solid force cage out in the open then you can sit back and watch...you know if you want to torture the poor guy or Cast an illusion to make it night time but its really daytime and lure him out then drop the illusion? (not that a druid can do it) I really like the idea of a garlic golem, go make one of them and torment every vampire you see....stay real close to that golem |
| storm140202-02-06, 12:24 PM | Sorry but I am laughing here I just read the new posts on this and its to funny, although the garlic golem is plossable do you really wanna stand so close to pure garlic that moves I mean geez imagine the smell I dont think the bar wenches would love to be around you for a while after. Not that I saw but Silver weapons are also effective on vampires so you could buff then silver a steak and make it a signature weapon or something. Call it mr pointy lol. Another option to get ride of a vampire is to just lead him into a dragons cave acting like u are running from him then just make sure to get out of the way when the dragon sees the "intruder" ;) u might be suprised at the results. |
| Mit Ratten Lebt02-02-06, 01:55 PM | If you are fighting a vampire within range of a dragon cave, you need to rethink both your adventuring strategy and your chances of survival. |
| storm140202-02-06, 03:15 PM | lol I was just giving senereos and its always possable some dms like to make players be on guard more and both of those would definatly make a pc worried about the noise level. |
| tak3thatback02-02-06, 07:47 PM | Open a Gate, and push him into the Plane of Elemental Fire. :D Or Positive Energy Plane. You know, I once was thinking of creating an epic spell to do just that. Create a gate to somewhere and have one of those hand thingies come down and *female dog* slap whatever into it. Though, limbo is a much more fun place. Confucious says: wall of force everyone else but you in with the vamp and teleport out of there. |
| Titusatreides02-02-06, 09:30 PM | Put a Holy Blessed Wild Rose in it's mouth just as he jumps to bite you. Then enjoy the view. (all done in 2nd edition rules with a 7th level wizard :ayyyyy!: ... in raventloft... He then suffered from horrendous visions and unfogettable nightmares :uh-huh: ) Greetings from Madrid, Spain: Titvs Atreides |
| spectralphoenix02-02-06, 11:52 PM | The Hunter of the Dead PrC may be able to help. Depending on how you interpret the True Death ability, they might be able to kill a vampire directly. Or maybe not. Does anyone know if there's a straight answer as to how the ability works? It seems to be either completely pointless or plot-breaking. |
