| Purpledrag0n02-08-04, 03:55 PM | Just rolled up a 10th level (3 rogue, 2 fighter, 5 assassin) assassin character focusing on TWFing and SAing for an evil campaign and I was looking for suggestions on what gear you would purchase and why. I'm talking about weapons (type and or magical properties), armor, and magic items. The DM gave me 32,000g to play with. Lets see what you can do. |
| Lord Turambar02-08-04, 10:45 PM | try ring of invisibity |
| mad_caper02-09-04, 12:37 AM | Some good poisons for your weapons. Ring of Sustenence is nice - you won't have to sleep as much so you have more time to cause trouble. |
| The_Newborn02-09-04, 05:38 AM | Does the shortsword of backstabbing still exist in 3/3.5? Poisons is the first thing. Ring of invis. or stuff to boast your sneak skills. What is your race, feats and weapons of choice? |
| Purpledrag0n02-09-04, 11:25 AM | Race: Human Feats: Two Weapon Fighting, Ambidexterity, Weapon Finesse (Shortsword), Improved Unarmed Strike, Quickdraw, Flick of the Wrist, and Deflect Arrows. *Note* Some of these feats I took because they are required for Ninja of the Crescent Moon which I will be taking at 11th level. Weapons: As of now I am dual-wielding two shortswords and have many concealed daggers on my body. This was one of the things I was asking for suggestions for in the original email. -Yes there is a shortsword for SA's called Sword of Sublety and it is exactly what this character needs, but alas it was too much money. -Also about the Ring of Invisibility, personally I think it would be too over-powered for this character and futhermore costs too much money even if I did want to buy it. I was thinking of picking Dust of Dissapearance instead. |
| da chicken02-09-04, 11:38 AM | I would consider a few scrolls or a wand of greater invisibility. |
| Addi8302-09-04, 01:14 PM | hate to be a spoilsport, but did you check to see if a fighter2/rogue3 met all the prereqs. for an assassin? |
| Tzor02-09-04, 01:59 PM | "Disguise 4 ranks, Hide 8 ranks, Move Silently 8 ranks" "The maximum rank in a class skill is the character’s level + 3." It sounds possible, but I haven't done the detailed math. Anyway, back to the question at hand. From the SRD: Assassin’s Dagger: This wicked-looking, curved +2 dagger provides a +1 bonus to the DC of a Fortitude save forced by the death attack of an assassin. (18,302 gp) Boots of Elvenkind: These soft boots enable the wearer to move quietly in virtually any surroundings, granting a +5 competence bonus on Move Silently checks. (2,500 gp) Cloak of Elvenkind: This cloak of neutral gray cloth is indistinguishable from an ordinary cloak of the same color. However, when worn with the hood drawn up around the head, it gives the wearer a +5 competence bonus on Hide checks. (2,500 gp) Hat of Disguise:This apparently normal hat allows its wearer to alter her appearance as with a disguise self spell. As part of the disguise, the hat can be changed to appear as a comb, ribbon, headband, cap, coif, hood, helmet, and so on. (1,800 gp) Edit: Forgot to include the costs: Total cost: 25102 gp |
| Heron_Marked_Blade02-09-04, 02:01 PM | Originally posted by Addi83 hate to be a spoilsport, but did you check to see if a fighter2/rogue3 met all the prereqs. for an assassin? Requirements: Disguise 4 ranks, Hide 8 ranks, Move Silently 8 ranks. From the 3.5 SRD Regardless of whether a skill is purchased as a class skill or a cross-class skill, if it is a class skill for any of your classes, your maximum rank equals your total character level + 3. Build: Rogue 3/Fighter 2 (max ranks 8 = qualifies) /Assassin 5 [edit: Ack, Tzor beat me!] |
| Malben02-09-04, 04:42 PM | I'd want a Ring of Blinking, more than any other single item. It's a way for you to get sneak attacks reliably. After that, I would want a pair of ghost touch weapons as soon as I could get them. Personally I like daggers because they're easy to hide. But more realistically, your DM isn't going to let you blow that much money on a single item. I know I wouldn't. So instead, I'd go for something like this: 1 pair +1 adamantine light melee weapons of your choice (again, I like daggers, but shortswords or handaxes can also be quite good). These pierce lots of fairly common sorts of DR, punch neat little holes in walls and doors, etc. Dead useful, easy to hide, and not to0 expensive at 5300 gp and change each. A hat of disguise, at the price, is a steal. Get one. Then I'd want a nice mithral chain shirt +2. That'd run about 5100 gp by DMG pricing. Defense is important, after all. Add a ring of protection +1. Add an amulet of natural armor +1. In general, it's more effective and cheaper if you get lots of little AC bonuses, and then try to increase them one increment at a time. +4 armor costs 16150 gp and change. +2 armor and a pair of other AC items runs more like 8150 and change. I'd then try to get my DM to let me have some dust of sneezing and choking, as something for me to use in emergencies when I'm sure I'm about to die if I don't totally turn things around. Throw in a cloak of elvenkind and boots of elvenkind, because more Hide/Move Silently is never bad. Add a +1 composite shortbow appropriate to your Str Mod(if any). Stock about 20 arrows each of cold iron and silver tip, just in case you need to pierce DR that your daggers can't handle. The remaining 800gp or so should be potions and other single-use items (like scrolls of spells that show up on the assassin list). They're really very worthwhile, if you get into trouble while you're scouting someplace where the party cleric isn't on hand and need cure magic, or if you're in melee against something that can hit you more or less at will and you need to retreat quickly, or whatever. Whenever possible, use scrolls. They're half the price of an equivalent potion. |
