| Flushmaster06-15-05, 08:31 PM | I figured I'd try my hand at one of these list threads. This isn't the same as the subject of the funny/stupid PC actions thread. This is for things that other PCs have done in game and in character that just aggravate you and/or your character. You might think it's funny but your character might flip out, for example. #1 This one was done by my character the other night, but it freaked out another PC (the player roleplayed the scene quite well) so it falls under the subject of this thread (and doesn't quite fit elsewhere). My character, Zyusi the 18 year old cleric of Wee Jas is quite unhappy and in a "take no prisoners" state of mind upon arriving at the palace with the intention of infiltrating the quarters of a royal advisor. With a combination of bribes and threats (the latter coming from Zyusi) another PC who has been moving through the same plot in a mostly parallel but often overlapping course allows us to claim to be with him as he has an appointment to meet the same advisor (in her office, we want into her residence). We have no intention of going all the way to the advisor's office, but have to lose our escort first. As we follow the guard leading us to the office and the other PC (an elven ranger named something like Altaran or such, we called him "Al" much for the same reasons Zyusi was often called "Z") begins asking us exactly why we so urgently need in to see this advisor. Zyusi calmly draws her dire pick and drives it into the back of the guard/guide's head. Rolls are made, damage is dealt, Zyusi is successful and the guard is quite dead. The other players laugh their butts off as Al's player, in character, goes apesh*t. "What the ****! You crazy *****, why the **** did you just kill the ****ing guard? Not only did he not deserve it, but how am I supposed to find where I'm going now?" Zyusi explained that it was an unfortunate necessity, and offers to give him directions to the advisor's office (she'd been there before) in exchange for helping her hide the body in a closet. Al agrees, still while freaking out and calling her a crazy ***** (ironically, he'd called her that more than once on previous meetings, but never so emphatically). #2 Same game, about five minutes later, this time it's me and my two companions that get anoyed. Al gets to the advisor's office, tells her exactly what happened, and which direction we ran off to. We're barely finished fighting the first group of guards we came across when the reinforcements start charging in. #3 Again, same game. Again, moments later. The gnome wizard with us decides to cut his losses and run so he casts invisibility on himself and runs away. Coward. #4 Same game. Earlier, our party rogue decided that she had no desire to try infiltrating the palace (or at least enough desire to overcome the risk) so she's waiting outside the gates this entire time, practicing her knitting while Zyusi and her dwarven fighter buddy are getting surrounded and arrested. Eventually the two of us talked our way into voluntary exile after a few days in the dungeon (Zyusi was more than happy to leave, with her words being "**** this entire place and anything near it, I'm leaving and never coming back"), but there was much annoyance and jibing back and forth around the table. It was all in character and in good fun though. Anybody else? |
| OctoberRaven06-15-05, 09:59 PM | #5 I was DMing this, but it was annoying. Someone constantly made checks, no matter what the circumstance. Ex. DM (me): You see an empty room PC: I make a search check DM: You find nothing PC: Okay, I make another search check DM: You still find nothing. PC: I make a spot check. DM: You still find nothing. PC: I make a listen check. DM: You hear nothing. PC: I make another listen check. DM: You still hear nothing. PC: Okay, okay. (Pause). Let me make another spot check. DM: :banghead: #6 Me and a few friends were playing a pick-up dungeon hack (I had a starter set at the time) and a character who decides to hide behind my PC (who had 20AC) while she and her boyfriend (a player of a PC whom was currently unconsious) go make out. After I win the fight (eventually) me and the DM are wating a good 15 minuites until they come back and say they they don't want to play anymore. |
| Ragey06-15-05, 11:09 PM | Every game the Rogue and the Cleric come up with a scheme and don't tell anyone else. They move to a corner, come up with it, do it, and wether it works or not, doesn't tell anyone. The bad thing about this is every single problem the group comes across they do it. They either end up dying, it just not working and battle starting, or they take the glory. The rest of the party believes that they should work with more of a team effort, but they do not listen. They simply continue, and the DM does nothing about it. |
| captainswift06-16-05, 12:26 AM | I had a player once who didn't seem terribly interest in anything that he wasn't directly involved in (even if he should have been involved in it). For instance, once, when the party was making plans to sneak into a well guarded compound, instead of listening or offering suggestions, he just looked down at his character sheet to see what was on there. Then: "I'm sneaking away from the party using Move Silently." Me: "Okay..." Him: "For about fifty yards." Me: "Toward the compound?" Him: "No, just out into the woods." (The rest of the party continues planning. I ignore Mr. Sneak so I can follow what they're up to. Eventually...) Him: "Okay. I'm sneaking back." He would do this a lot, just randomly pick a skill off his character sheet and use it without purpose or motivation. It wasn't even character-specific; he did it in two different games, with (conceptually) very different characters. Odd little fellow. |
| Ilikan Holyaxe06-16-05, 12:44 AM | "I cast magic missle (level 1) on the blood ape!" (our DM used a blood ape to see what we'd actually do with an opponent we knew we could not defeat, we also happened to have a druid who was preparing to cast animal friendship on the thing) "I push the cultist leader down the well!"... (fortunatly the Goliath Paladin, STR 22, me, grapples him and holds him in the air for the remainder of the encounter) "I stare the dire wolf straight in the eye" *sighs* "I shout at our Level 20 Psion employer (at level 3(DM was this ' ' close to giving the sorcerer a fully augmented ego whip))" This guy (same guy all the time) loves to provoke things, he also loves bleeding to death. On three occasions our cleric has refused to heal him, until the druid pulled our butts out of the fire all three times (wow druids are handy). |
| sabrewolf06-16-05, 01:30 AM | #13 (i think) double annoyance - All in good fun, though not for the characters :D : >Dungeon crawling on a big cave complex with giants here and there, my character (the only i recall well bessides the elf wizard) a groundling named Rorak, cleric of Nerull and a pyro by choice.. dont recall why (racial template i guess) i had fire imunity.. And i had a poleaxe wich could hold a 5d fireball that detonated by impact (like delayed blast FB) with three stackeable charges/day.. wich the others knew he liked using when he knew thereŽd be battle< (after the seccond battle with a handfull of giants) <Rorak (me)> Rorak grumbles while charges up the blade and hold it ready to strike.. just in case.. <DM> getting jumpy arewe? right, itŽs charged.. anything else? <Rorak> IŽll head for the passage on the left wall.. <the wizard> "Hey wait there!! IŽll go with you!!" (the others stood a safe 15-20Ž behind, they had a torch, the mage didnt, i had darkvision) <DM> You two, roll wisdom.. <Rorak> *roll* *sucess* <mage> *roll* *fails* <DM> Rorak, you think that the dark cave at the passageŽs end is a good place for a trap or an ambush.. <Rorak> iŽll slow down my pace and add up a seccond charge... <wizard> IŽll keep to his side.. <Rorak> " *Growl* " (Thinking "why the stupid mage is following me?") <Rorak> *sideglancing at the mage and adding the 3rd charge* "Grrr.." >>getting there, there was an ambush.. << <DM> you see a large shadow of a being hiding on each side expecting you to enter reach *initiative rolls* you first, them latter, then the wizard.. <Rorak> "Raar! For Nerull!!!" >> my char goes one step forward and attack the giant at his side... I hit and of course follows a 15d fiery *BOOM*and the wizard goes from perfect health to near death with the player going :uh-huh: :gah:  as he had forgotten it was 30Žarea burst (and he knew fireball!).. >>And when the DM announced that the two (wich we could see clearly then) were FIRE giants me and the others went :twitch: and the wizard :banghead: before we all made a laugh-break for the silliness of the scene.. >>Back at the game the others joined the fray and the two were shouting complains and "why-did-you"s at each other while battling.. luckly the wizard was not hit any other time and suvived the combat so the cleric could pach him up.. And the two went grumbling at each other for the rest of the day.. all in good fun for th players.. |
| Duvanok06-16-05, 02:56 AM | #14(?) Players who make characters whose alignments are not compatible with the rest of the group. #15. Players who kill other players and say "I was just Roleplaying!" From a DM's perspective, I find the following annoying from my players: #16. Not remembering a damn thing about what is going on in the current campaign. Yes, I know people have lives and we are all guilty of needing a bit of a reminder every once in a while, but I shouldn't have to remind you (every session for the last year) of the name of the guy who runs your patron temple. Pay attention for Chirst's sake! #17. Min/Maxers, powergamers, Hack and slashers, Munchkins and metagamers. Also, those who refuse to roleplay or do any kind of character development. They'll spend weeks pouring through splat book after splat book to find the right combination of feats to munch-out their character but when you ask them to tell you a little bit about their character's ideology they just look at you and blink. #18. Players who start yelling out what other players should do. "No don't cast fireball, we're pretty sure he has fire resistance, try a targeted dispel magic instead!" #19. Placing a real cool magic item in the campaign for the party to use, only to have them sell it in order to buy something they really want. |
| Matafleous06-16-05, 03:52 AM | I have a ninja in the group I DM for who is possibly the most annoying person on the face of the planet. Everytime a battle starts he wants to hide. It doesnt matter if the enemies have already spotted him or if hes being attacked hes going to hide. Then he complains when they find him. It doesnt matter if you get a 5 or a 36 if the Goblin saw you run behind the counter. He knows that you are there. P.S. he trys to hide in rooms where there is nothing at all. Hiding in an empty room. Thats brilliant. |
| Flushmaster06-16-05, 05:38 AM | It doesnt matter if you get a 5 or a 36 if the Goblin saw you run behind the counter. He knows that you are there. In a game I DM now, the ninja player tried to do this in the first encounter. An ECL 3 party (several characters with level adjustments) against a bunch of monkeys (the tiny, CR 1/6 monkeys) and he wants to hide. Now he could have possibly pulled it off since the encounter was in a dense jungle, but after a brief out of character conversation in which I and another player (his girlfriend) threatened to cause him bodily harm (and he believed us both, since I'm bigger than him and he knows that she'll follow through on such threats) then he decided to simply smash a monkey instead. Since then he has learned to hide before combat and attack during combat. |
| Radijs06-16-05, 06:22 AM | We're fighting some hill giants and assorted baddies including a spellcaster or two. One of the spellcasters had cast entagnle and all the players save one or two who made their reflex save and one wizard which was out of range on his horse. Its the wizards turn he boldly rides into the fray towards one of the bad guys and right into the area of effect from the entangle! The horse is stuck. So he jumps off his horse and gets stuck too! Next round the nearest bad guy to the wizard has charged him and gave him a good clobbering. The spellcaster that caused the entangle is dead so the spell has ended. The wizard mounts his horse while in threat range of the bad guy so the bad guy slices the horse in two pieces. The wizard casts a spell at the bad guy and after getting clobbered again next turn he decides to move away 30 ft and provokes another AoO and is slain stone dead. |
| Flushmaster06-16-05, 06:58 AM | Now that's a dumb wizard. Or more likely a dumb player. But it's what this thread is for! Keep 'em coming! |
| High King Tigernmas06-16-05, 07:36 AM | My compatriot used a spell (I dunno what one, I'm the big dumb Barbarian) that drew the water out of evrything in the room other than him... He killed me, and I quote, 'You'll easily pass the fortitude save' |
| Radijs06-16-05, 07:38 AM | Hes a great at doing exactly the wrong kinds of things. The riding into the entangle is something that could have happened to me. But the rest is indeed stupidity. Anyway the player gets a new character. Some kind of paladin of indeterminate religion. For some reason he gets a little peeved at one player and clouts him on top of his head with his gauntlet for no damage. (he did not intend to damage) It refers to a little bit of tradition towards another player who has a paladin in another campaign where clouting sinners(both party and non party members) like that to reprimand them. But its a reserved thing for that player only kind of. So the paladin gets a deafness spell targeted on him and the paladin starts hacking and slashing away. The DM rewinded the whole thing because he doesnt like party kills but I know the paladin is going to fall from grace in the next session because that player just can't roleplay lawful good. So my LN cleric is waiting patiently for this to happen so he can tell the paladin off and begin his attonement. |
| snowlynx06-16-05, 11:43 AM | 25?) Player character hanging themselves rather then spend three days in jail. (The character was not tortured or mistreated in jail.) I think the player was bored of her character. 26) Cleric who "accidentally" killed the child we were supposed to be protecting. He cast a spell that gave a stick a 'flaming burst' quality, and somehow it slipped his mind midway through his berating the child and he hit the child with the stick. He had the child ressurected, but made his clergy pay for the cost of ressurection. Supposedly, the cleric was exalted... 27) At a standoff in a fight we couldn't win, where we had stopped fighting and were trying to diplomatically get our way out of it, because that was what the enemies wanted, one of the PCs decides to finish killing the enemy he's next to, then attacks the leader of the enemies. This stops our talking for a bit. (The DM was being nice about it, and let the character go- I think, were I one of the enemies, I would have demanded this player character in exhange for the individual he had killed....if not just kill the group outright. We were way outnumbered.) 28) One of the other player characters was supposedly a close friend of my character, but she not only spends time antagonizing my wife, but skipped out on our wedding. Weeks later, she came back to the group, and claimed she had 'lost track because she was counting coins.' My character has still not forgiven her, although we still travel together. |
| Dauntless06-16-05, 12:10 PM | 29) The pixie rogue who wastes TWO HOURS of our game session just harrassing patrons in a bar, while four other players sit around bored out of our minds. And to make it worse, in character we were trying to move discreetly through town... |
| Anomander06-16-05, 12:42 PM | 30?) whilst in a inn my group's half orc barbarian and the Elven sorceress decide to solve the problem of sharing a room violently. the human rogue of our group goes mental runs in and knocks them both out with a sap. my character (a dwarven cleric of Erythnul) on the other hand shrugs his shoulders and goes to his room to sleep  |
| exosin delmar06-16-05, 01:06 PM | setup: a drow warrior, half-dragon assassin, and human ranger are in the towns most prominent guild's HQ. the dragon is looking at items for sale at there 'in-house consignment shop." dw=drow warrior hd=half-dragon hr=human ranger sk=shop keeper gm=high ranking guild member "master's assistant" hd-"what that?" sk-"a dagger" hd-"no sh!t, is there anything special about it?" sk-"yea i'll let you buy it, but i won't tell if it's magic." hd-"f*** you then. This guild f***ing sucks." gm-"oh really? then why did you want in so bad?" hd-"i didn't you recruited me *****hole!" HD hits GM w/sword. 30 guild members proceed send a flurry of arrows, bolts, daggers, spells, and t. axes our way. plus they're between us and the door. the DW teleports out via ring of teleport. leaving my HR and my friend's HD, hanging. but my HR pops out another means to teleport (can't remember exactly what), except it teleports every touching the user. from there we track down the DW and i behead him(literally with my first swing), and assault the guild. We crippled the guild but the samew day we're about to throw the final blow-the town gaurd runs us out for starting a turf war between, meanwhile thanking us for getting the "thorn out of the guard's side that was the guild of black dragons," and telling us if we ever come back we're going to be publicly executed. |
| Sinaz06-16-05, 01:14 PM | "I'm sneaking away from the party using Move Silently." Me: "Okay..." Him: "For about fifty yards." Me: "Toward the compound?" Him: "No, just out into the woods." (The rest of the party continues planning. Der... he had to use the little boy's room! 31) After carefully strategizing a raid on a camp of sleeping orcs, the rogue and ranger are about to silently wrest control of the watch tower so we can toll the bell at the moment of our surprise attack... and then before the rest of our party can get into position, a sit-in player pulls a Leeroy Jenkins galloping through the camp blasting a war horn. -then, at least, it got better- Plan B - everyone kill the Orcish General at all costs! We won the encounter by the skin of our teeth when our Barbarian pounded the Orcish General to his knees and proceeded to bite the Orc's head off (more like a combination of sawing with the Orc's own sword and gnashing with his teeth.) This gave him like +5 to intimidate and all the other Orcs just sort of stood there stunned until the Barbarian held the head up high and yelled "I HOPE YOU ALL TASTE BETTER THAN HIM!" At which point they routed. 32) My friend's wife played a forest elf, and after our brief encounter at a logging camp, we couldn't move on with the adventure because she suddenly wanted to rid the world of "eco-terrorists." So while she planned raids on the mill, we tried to convince the DM to let us leave her and play on with the adventure. |
| Herald@Large06-16-05, 03:33 PM | 33) (1st ed) Guy held up the game for over 45 minutes arguing with the DM because he couldn't accept that an Ancient Red Dragon had made its saving throw against his Rod of Rulership. We kept telling him "Rob, just *let* *it* *go*", but no ........ 34) "Me too!" players. Not an original thought in their heads. 35) One-track-mind players: DM: You see a creature up ahead -- OTM: I attack it. (Later, same game) DM: You see something on the road ahead -- OTM: I attack it. Lather, rinse, repeat. :tantrum: 36) Players who say or do (or have their characters say or do) obnoxious things just to be obnoxious: crude or disgusting jokes, sexual innuendos, etc. 37) Male players insisting on playing female characters as either leather-clad man-hating b****es, or as brainless bimbos who'll sleep with anything. |
| The nameles one06-16-05, 04:44 PM | #38. From DM's perspective, I have a player who start's all RP conversations with "Ready action to attack if he/she/it moves/cast's a spell/talks." |
