"what is he thinking?", but keep in mind, it is optional. We only have three players so he is allowing us each to have a second character. I am going to play a cleric so I am worried that I will be subconsciously biast with my healing. Should I do it or not? |
| Toloran04-30-07, 08:30 PM | Unless you are the type of person prone to accidently metagaming normally, you shouldn't worry about it. |
| Toast_recon04-30-07, 08:36 PM | I may have a problem........... I don't metagame persay....... just smash the rules and beat them until they fit my needs........ooohhh, i am gonna sig that! anyway, I don't metagame really. In fact, I am going to cast true resurrection for my father for the sake of role playing,( If and when I hit 18th level of course) I am usually in between optimization and roleplaying. |
| Kouk04-30-07, 09:33 PM | Even if you did give preferential healing, you are still doing the other players a favor by being a cleric in the party (assuming that yours would be the only one). |

Heh, then you'll be fine then. I was just saying that earlier in case you were the type of person who hears "You see a very tall humanoid who is hunched over with rubbery green skin, and arms that dangle and hang from their side." and immediately brings out the fire and acid :) |
| seldom_seen05-03-07, 09:11 PM | I allowed my players to play two characters if they chose for some time. I just watched closely to prohibit the sharing of items back and forth. We did not have any problems, and the arrangement allowed my few players to have a well rounded group of characters. |
| daggeroflath05-03-07, 09:31 PM | ok, I know what you are thinking, Stop reading my mind, it's creepy. Anyway, I've played 4 characters at once as a PC (for a single scene, 2 is the most I've run continously). It's not that hard. Then again I'm usually a DM so I have to handle a global population while adjudicating rules and devising some kind of story or adventure. So running a couple of PCs isn't really that hard. Just buy some hats or something, otherwise it gets confusing around the table. |
| Sareld05-03-07, 09:38 PM | You know that you will want to focus your healing to keep your 2nd character alive, so why dont you just accept the fact and make your second character someone with special importance to your cleric? Given the choice, would this cleric of yours rather heal his wife/daughter/brother/childhood friend, or a guy who he just met at the tavern and went adventuring with? Your secondary character will be a cohort, but one that is totally equal to your cleric. Would Han favor Chewie over the other guys in the party? And likewise, would Balthier favor Fran? Or how about batman... if he had to choose between saving Robins life or the life of Green Lantern, who would he pick? |

| Shadowhowler05-06-07, 03:29 AM | You say that your DM gave you the option to play two character if you want to, but you don't have to. In that case, I would chose not to. I never have as much fun playing two characters as I do playing one... it's just not as satisfing spliting my focus in that way. As an alternative, he could let your three players play Gestalt characters, if he and you feel three players will not be enough. Although, I see no reason why you cant have a BLAST with three players... a party that small, everyone is in on the action more often, and your character becomes more important simply due to the math of it. Some of the funest games I have every played were me, one other player... and the DM. Like a good buddy movie. ;) |

I haven't played a game like that, but the games I've ran that were like that were awesome. Definately some of my favourite. (First time though, I stupidly forgot that the CR system was designed for 4 players. No wonder they nearly died so much during that game) |
