| roninwolf10907-20-07, 04:22 PM | Hey everybody. So here's what's going on. Us PCs are getting ready to destroy an artifact on the Plane of Shadow by using a holy relic that makes Sunlight contiually. Our plan basically consists of Plane Shift there, I cast Leomand's Secure Shelter then we just wait the 24 hrs for the Sunlight effect to destroy the artifact. The problem is all the native critters that might just take exception to us making their home plane all bright and stuff... Bought a whole mess of Sunrods, Sunlight pellets, etc to try and keep them away along with healing potions, remove disease potions and the like to help keep us alive the 24 hrs. Does anyone have some advice as to keep incorporial creatures out? I mean the doors and windows of the Secure Shelter Arcane Lock, but what's to stop something from just walking through the wall? Any other advice (besides don't go, is dangerous)? Thanks and massive waves of zombie weiner dogs for all that help! |
| maharai2307-20-07, 04:25 PM | Ghost Touch abilities. Death ward. There's likely a couple spells that will make incorporeal critters cringe. Many inc. critters are undead.... Disruption effects. |
| roninwolf10907-20-07, 05:56 PM | One of the PCs has a Ghost Touch scythe. The DM more or less gave us Legacy Weapons (for all intents +10 weapons right now) that are beyond my character's moneys to get that enhancement on my rapier (it can overcome any damage reduction for 10 rounds though. Cool in its own right.) |
| Yokomohoyo07-21-07, 04:41 AM | Cast a spell like the Pavillion spell that creates a hide out so that you can spend the day in. Since nothing can get in it unless they have been granted access you should be safe. Their is also a spell in SPC that creates a portal to the shadow plain for you to stash items their and be able to retrive them 24hrs later... Problem is that their is a small chance that something might walk away with it. BUT I doubt that something from the shadow plain would want something big and bright... Anyways this spell should allow you to get access to what you need to do without needing to venture to the plain yourselves. |
| Heros_Backpack07-21-07, 06:17 AM | Mage Armor will give you an AC boost against any incorporeal attacks and you might consider using Wall of Force as a spot defence against attacks. |
| Matthew7707-22-07, 09:57 AM | What level are you, and do you have access to the Spell Compendium and Magic Item Compendium? Some scrolls of "Incorporeal Nova" might be helpful if you are getting overrun. "Forceward" from Spell Compendium is also handy, but it doesn't last very long. Get everyone the best "Truedeath Crystals" you can afford. (MIC) |
| roninwolf10907-22-07, 06:48 PM | Sorry should have mentioned that first off. Anyways...my DM's wife is playing a Druid/Ranger/Beastmaster 14, I'm playing a Factotum/Rogue 14 and the DM has a DMNPC that's a Sorcerer/Monk/Dragon Deciple 14 (it's a Gestalt campagain). Also do have the Spell and Magic Item Compendiums. Got Greater Death Ward Crystals too. |
| Jherid07-23-07, 01:47 AM | Just get a scroll of Forcecage and create a barred cage upon casting. At the lowest caster level it'll last for 26 hours and should keep you safe from most of the plane's natural inhabitants. |
| snakeman83007-23-07, 11:23 AM | Just as a warning, light doesn't hurt the denizens of the plane of shadow at all, nor does it prevent them from doing anything. If anything, it will only tick them off and agrivate them. So, the sunrods aren't going to help. I'd have to say that a persisted Forcecage (DMM will be necessary) will be enough to protect you. |
| forsaken111107-23-07, 02:17 PM | Ghostwall Shellac from dungeonscape is an alchemical mixture which, when rubbed on the inside of your secure shelter, will keep incorporeal creatures out for 4d6 hours. To be safe, reapply it every 4 hours and it will keep anything incorporeal from coming through. Granted they could still teleport in or get in other ways, but that will help and its not too expensive. 150gp per application, each application coats a full 10ft square including all walls and the floor/ceiling (if the ceiling is 10ft high). |
| roninwolf10907-24-07, 01:23 PM | neat idea forsaken. I have that bleeding book and never thought to look in it. Also the sunrods weren't to ward off any of the creatures that live there (well, okay maybe it would keep the small and/or dumb ones away). They were more for being able to see what might be trying to eat us. :) |
| forsaken111107-24-07, 01:26 PM | The reason I suggest that instead of a force cage is that magic can be destroyed by magic, but alchemical solutions are something most people don't expect. |
| roninwolf10907-25-07, 09:48 PM | or...we use BOTH!! (DUN DUN DUNNNNN) :D Anyways, the whole thing will most likely go down tonight at game so I'll post here and let everybody know what happened. |
| roninwolf10907-28-07, 04:25 PM | The Ghostwall Shallack really saved our butts. We got attacked by two Dread Wraiths (that couldn't get in the Shelter, ha ha ha). Of course it would have been a completely different ballgame without it... Long story short, the artifact got destroyed (along with the holy relic). No horrific dragon o' doom jumped out. YAY US!! :D |
| forsaken111107-28-07, 05:03 PM | Good to know I helped! |
| roninwolf10907-29-07, 01:37 PM | Yes, have you some zombie weiner dogs Forsaken! :D |
| HouseJaelre07-30-07, 03:19 AM | If your DM has access to the ToM you have much more to worry about than "critters", it adds an orgionization, the sunlight covenant or something, basically, they seek to destroy all light, especially in the plane of shadow, so you using an item that generates sunlight, will tick them off, and their ranks count drow, liches, and necromancers. The shadowplane is basically a twisted reality of the material plane, expect similar creatures with just a dark template, and watch out for sneak attacks, shadow templated creatures are fast and stealthy. Your best weapon is wits, divination magic, anything that can help you see, and detect them, after that its a simple matter of smacking it till its dead, like you would any other creature (and of course, prepare for incorpreal monsters as well) |

Its not like a permenant change to the plane is happening which would be very noticable. Chances are the sunlight covenant wouldn't even notice them unless they have some planar-wide alert system to tell them light has entered the plane. |
