Has anyone come up with or found any good source on how to aquire additional animal companions/friends for longer than the duration of a Charm Animal spell? ? ?
Thanks

the spell Awaken may help some what. It makes an animal sentient but pretty much like a npc thats friendly to you and will help you if you ask. it's mental stats increase and it can speak. you can also cast this on a tree and have the same effect. it cost xp but last forever

There is an article Here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20031118x) that allows for animal cohorts. This isn't as powerful as the Druid and Ranger Animal Companion ability, but it does allow them to have an additional animal. Also anyone can use it, not just Druids and Rangers.

Actually, the animal cohort is more powerful than a ranger's animal companion. I really dislike the animal cohort feat. Animal companions are signature abilities of the druid and ranger, and making a feat which is basically a class ability sets a bad precedent. You might as well make a feat that gives sneak attack of 1d6/4 levels or turning undead.

What would you think of taking the 3.0 Animal Friendship spell and upping it to 3rd level rather than 1st? Would that be balanced and easy enough to not be a waste of a spell slot?

anybody? I know some 3.5 druids have to miss the large number of possible companions they had in 3rd edition. . .
