So we goto a Temple of Osirus (sp?) trying to see if we can buy the material components because one of our companions died (we have an 11th level Cleric).

Anyhow, one thing led to another and we killed everyone there and all their guardians in one big fantastic fight. Unbeknowst to us a level 22 planar creature was there as well. We identified its as a lesser demigod...so we killed him after he killed our fighter (Save or die attack).

We found what we wanted (the matieral components for the Cleric's Raise Dead spells), but now have a new problem.

So, err...what do we do now? We're all level 12-13 atm.

Party makeup:

13 CN Fighter
12 LN Wizard
12 NG Cleric
4 CG Fighter/8 Ranger (Bow specialist)
4 CN Fighter/5 Rogue/3 Order of the Bow Initiate (not sure exactly)

1. wake up from the dream you just had..... (A level 22 demi God, if played to abilities would wipe out a party of 12 level characters)

need more information for a serious response..

1. I am not familiar with that God, is he good/neutral/evil God?
2. what lead to the fighting and killing of the priest?
3. If good or neutral, why not just pay them to resurrect your friend?
4. If evil why would your good characters care what an evil god thinks of them?

Honestly, I think it was a 'shadow' version of it (my guy made a spot check, but I couldn't back it up with a Spellcraft check) so what looked like a 22nd level lesser demigod was probably actually just a level 13 creature - it did have a 20% miss chance.

1. I am not familiar with that God, is he good/neutral/evil God?

Not sure. I don't have all the books so I couldn't look it up. Honestly I forgot what the cleric in the group said, but I don't think we would have gone to the temple if we didn't think we could purchace material components. If we were going to an evil temple we would have killed them on sight...

2. what lead to the fighting and killing of the priest?

Actually, when we asked to purchace the materials he refused. Then we asked him to take us to his leader. He said that he would have to kill us to do that. Then we said, no, just take us to your leader. He then opened these two tall doors and his minions came out of the door. We immediately rolled initiative and had held actions (I think all but one of us went before them). Anyhow everyone pretty much had a held action that went, "If I feel threated I cast/attack the nearest opponent."

Well the minions approached within 10-feet of the fighter in front and I attacked it as it was moving to 5-foot square near the fighter.

That's how it started.

3. If good or neutral, why not just pay them to resurrect your friend?

We had a level 11 Cleric. We didn't want to also pay the 50gp x Caster Level cost (we're cheap).

4. If evil why would your good characters care what an evil god thinks of them?

Because we're scared. Killing monsters is fine and good, but killing, what looked liked a demigod (from the Knowledge (religion) check), is unnerving.

So your in this situation because you wouldn't take "no" for an answer?

He attacked us first...and wanted to kill us before seeing his leader. We all thought we were justified in our actions.

Maybe there was a miscommunication or something, but why would we need to be dead to see his leader?

You attacked first. They did no hostile action.

One thing led to another? lol... yeah, I agree with Derren S. You guys may have asked, why they wouldn't let you buy the items you needed instead of insisting that they sell them to you.

Well we wanted to talk to the leader and perhaps gain favor with him by doing a quest or getting something for him in exchange for the materials necessary to raise our friends.

But when the enemy got within 5-feet of the fighter...we all attacked (we considered that a hostile action).

We had no intentions to go looting the temple. Actually we didn't even loot the temple afterward...

So now we have 2 people we need to raise. Arg...

You asked a priest of Osiris to speak to his leader, and then were surprised when he told you that you'd have to be dead first?

You do realize that Osiris is a death god, don't you?

Tee hee!

I think you're mistaken. While busting up a temple is generally high on the list of "foolish things to do in a DnD game," if what you killed was actually an epic-level demigod, your DM's asleep on the job.

I think a botched Knowledge check is a much more reasonable explanation for what actually happened.

So standing in front of someone is a hostile actions.....

How many fatalities are there when you visit a tavern?

Yruc,

I don't know what the official alignment of Osiris is, but from what I know of Egyptian mythology, you're probably looking at something Lawful Neutralish.

Osiris isn't the sort to send hordes of minions thirsting for revenge... after all he'll get you eventually (aka when you die). His son Horus, however, is another matter entirely.

I thought the same thing when I read the priests answer to "take me to your leader"... Heck, even a Christian today could respond the same. You gotta be dead to meet the Big Guy.

I also agree that the party was NOT in the right to attack. They were not being assaulted. A step near you is NOT an assault. Even if it were, you could MOVE BACK AWAY. The party was also in the OTHER GUYS house, so they are the threatening party in the conflict.

I agree with everyone else here that you guys were in the wrong to attack and that your cleric should probably loose her casting ability until she atones. One evil act doesn't mean you are now all evil, though I'd watch your alignment closely for a good long time. But who knows how your DM wants to handle it, it is after all his world..

Well if Osirus is the death God in your world, then you just sent all his priest / followers at that temple home to see him :)

Depends on your DM as to what happens now. The god might not care that you killed them, he might believe that you gave his priests a death they deserved. Could be he had plans for them and now you messed them all up... But a god of death may not care about the killing but he might have a problem with you looting his temple....

To put everything right, you probably should have the cleric atone, and then make a donation to another Osirus temple for the cost of the goods you all stole (componets for raise dead, any money or equipment you took from the fallen) and maybe the next few bad guys you kill, do it in the name of Osirus.

Also sleep lightly and keep a good watch )

If what you killed was actually a level 22 demigod, please let me know how I can get in a game with your DM. I have a wizard that's been itching to take out Vecna.

Considering what you did, I would have you follow the next sequence of actions to get yourself out of the doghouse (and I advise you do them anyway):

1) Atonement spell. Use it. Better if you pay a priest of Osiris to use it.

2) Donation to a temple of Osiris equal to twice the worth of what you took.

3) About two-three missions for priests of Osiris to help makeup for the slaughter. If I was feeling particularly cruel, I'd make you do them for free and donate whatever you find to the temple where you got the missions at.

You ask the guy who is probably the ranking Priest of Osiris in his temple to "take me to your leader" and it didn't occur to you that his leader is the God himself ... the God of the Underworld ?

And then... you jump the gun and start a fight because someone ran up to the fighter in front and what... did he have his weapon drawn ? Did you even ask ?

You guys are in trouble. I wouldn't even worry about the dead demi-god (shadow version or not).. I'd worry about the entire priesthood of the God of the Underworld... That's your real problem.

Do you think saying "I'm sorry" would be enough ? I very much doubt it. An atonement and a whole bunch of grovelling and devoting your life to the service of the temple is probably something you might want to consider (that, or running like a bat outta Hel and changing your alignment to evil, joining the worshippers of Set and hoping you never get caught..)

Yep. Face it, when your characters die, their hearts are going to sink down the scales, and you'll get fed to Ammat, who will devour you forever.

On the bright side, don't worry about coporeal retribution. That's why death gods have the advantage in matters of patience against imperious mortals. They know you're going to go to them one day on your own.

You walked into a temple of the God of the Underworld.

You asked them to "Take me to your leader", when you know their leader is the god of death. You didn't appear to try and say "On second thought, lets not meet your leader, you'll do."

You attacked without provication just because somebody walked up to you, and you slaughtered the priests and destroyed the temple's guardians.

You want to know what to do?
You roll up new characters, because that group is SCREWED. Maybe your new party will realize that drawing your sword is your LAST resort, not your first. I mean, jeez...

If someone threatened me with death, then tons of their minions came towards me brandishing weapons, I think I'd be in the right to attack, no matter who they were. And I bet the party wanted to talk to the head of the temple, not it's god.

.. I think I'd APOLOGIZE and WALK AWAY. Giving them money while we're at it.

And give me money too, because you'll have no use for it when you're dead.

Osiris.. Osiris.. Oh yeah.

God of Harvest, Nature, and the Underworld.

Not a God Of Evil Sticky Death, but rather a God Of Natural Death.

You realize you killed the followers and aspect of a Lawful Good God don't you? I mean, he has like NO Avatars or anything, though were he to have one it'd be around a CR 30 critter to be sure.

And.. er.. yeah. You're screwed. gg.
