our party, all level 13 made up of a human bard, a elven rogue, a gnomish sorceror, a human cleric/ thing of pelor (prc from complete divine) and a halfling paladin/templar. As i said we have gained 5 wishes, one each, for rescueing a elder gold wyrm dragon (not that really matters) these have been issued by a lawful good dragon god.
While the paladin has pretty much decided on his wish, improveing his armour, the rest of us are a bit stumped.

so any ideas?

That's stupid to ask a stranger what your own personal D&D characters should ask for in their granted "Wish" spells.

Hookers. And, lots of them.

Or.

Human Bard: Glamered Mithral Breast Plate of Twilight +1(?). I'm not sure the limitation of Wish. Depending on what can be wished for, the +1 can be increased.

Elven Rogue: This depends on the rogue's style.
-Powerful scroll(s) if into "Use Magic Device" and combat. A powerful Implosion scroll. Or, a powerful wand.
-Rapier of Speed +x, again depending on "Wish's" limitations.
-Crossbow of Reloading +x (possibly additional properties).
-Magical lock picks/thieves tools.

Gnomish Sorcerer: Staffs. The player or yourself will have to look it up because I haven't my DMG with me.

Cleric/Unknown PrC: Holy Mace of Undead/Evil Outsider Bane +1(?). Or. Gold Plated Full Plate of Haste (depending on edition) and Shing/Charming (from Complete Divine-gives moral bonuses to Will and other bonuses) +1(?).

Halfling Paladin/Another Unknown PrC: Stat increase. I really couldn't think of a proper item for it though.

Another alternative depends on wether or not you can save your Wishes or must use them immediatly. Save them for when facing off against a powerful monster. Wish it dead. You will have still defeated it and should still recieve experience points for it.

My advice is to not wish for anything the phb specifically lists. To ask for wierd stuff is to invite DM interptetation. Wish for stats if you've got any odd ones, wish for stats if you have even ones. The point is wish for stats.

The cleric should wish for an item which gives you true resurrection upon your next death, kinda like a scroll, only with a Contingency on it to activate without a caster. That can really turn the tide of a battle, intimidate your opponents, not to mention save your and your teammates' butts. Depends on the limits of the spell, of course; it might not be able to create an item that grants true resurrection, or one that's able to grant it in a single round. But ask for whatever the spell can do.

Considering the one granting the spells is Good, he probably won't give you something that'll kill you if you overreach. But don't, anyhow; 'cause teaching you a lesson is certainly not beyond him/her.

Got any enemies? Things like a dragon breathing down your neck, or a lich lurking around? You could use that wish to obtain item(s) which might help you overcome that creature/person. If they can be defeated by a simple "wish it destroyed" request, then go for it (but be careful of your DM; do it sometime when he *hasn't* prepared a 3-hour climactic battle!).

Stats are a good basic idea. You get one point per wish spell, I think. Stat-raising items, if you don't have them at your level, are a better idea, just so long as you don't run into any of Mordenkainen's protégés.

Your rogue or spellcaster can always use more AC. Asking for a few points of natural armor could be helpful.

I believe wishing for 1 point is a flawless untamperable wish. 2 or more is free game for the DM. Last I heard anyway.

Yeah. The spell only garantees up to 15,000 gp, so at 13th level you're better off wishing for stats. Unless you wanted to wish for something completely random and make a friend have polka-dotted skin :D ...or not...

In my experience, wishing for an item won't get you very far , because that item will eventually start counting against your gp limit. In the end this means you'll become equally 'wealthy' when not being granted the wish. But that's meta/power gaming. On the other hand, your dm doesn't know that

"I wish that you (the dragon) will be there to save my :censored: in the future just as I did for you, whenever i call for it" is a wish without gp value that might be just as valuable....

Don't wish for an item. The nasty DM response to that is "Okay, it appears in your hands. It's original owner is still wearing it, and is both a demon and very, very angry."

Don't wish for lots of anything. They appear 10 feet above you, moving downward at terminal velocity.

Repeat ad infinitum.

There are only two types of wishes that will almost certainly get you what you ask for. "A ham sandwich". Or something amusingly vague, like "I wish for amusement", or "I wish to travel to interesting places." These are vague enough that the DM will probably be happy enough messing with you a little bit, while not just slaughtering you out of hand.

If I were you I would wish for permanent abilities that are not too outlandish and may even be done via a spell.
1. Improved Spell Resistance - SR 5 + Character Level
2. Improved Saves - +3 to all saves
3. Immune to all forms of poison, fear and charm like effects.
4. Immune to 1 or 2 1st level spells.
5. 3, 0 level spells, usuable once per day.

There was only ever one game I've been in where someone got to the point of using a wish to improve stats, (though it was actually a book of +1 Strength). Nobody wanted to use it, because the non-fighters couldn't use Strength for anything, and the fighters all expected that they'd be getting a +5 book at some point down the line.

I've come to the conclusion that there is absolutely nothing that a wish is good for in 3+ Edition.

If you're a keen roleplaying group, the keep it in-game, and consider what your character might want.

Think of past battles, and what deficiencies or weaknesses you had, and whish for something to rectify those weaknesses.

Think of npc's the dm has introduced, and things they have said, this may give you ideas. I've found immersing myself in the DM's world and showing i listen to his npc's usually gets me as good a gift as the munchkin next to me, with a lot less whining and complaining, and very little risk of backfire.

As the whish is from an assumed good dragon, you will probably not get screwed unless you get greedy, and it gives the dm a chance to be creative.

If you're not so worried with roleplaying, there's an huge amount of stuff you can ask for, just browse through a dmg and look for something shiny :D

I think a nice wish would be to wish for the body of an adamantine contruct.

I am playing as a stone construct right now, and the immunity to any spell that allows SR is NNNNIIIICCCCEEEE!

make sure you have some way to heal yourself though. Positive energy don't cut it when your a construct.

Also make sure to word your wish EXACTLY, or he will turn that player into an NPC

I think this as well as..

Don't wish for lots of anything. They appear 10 feet above you, moving downward at terminal velocity.

..might work together. :P

OR you will end up with a decapitated adamantine golem laying next to you..so it would be worthless. :)

I do like this idea..

Unless you wanted to wish for something completely random and make a friend have polka-dotted skin

..would work REALLY well if the wisher is a gnome or a halfling who like to play jokes a lot. And it is a lot funnier when you tell the DM "let me choose last"..that way it goes a little something like this..

PC1: Let me choose last
DM: Okay, PC2?
PC2: I wish to be physically stronger (+1 str)
PC3: I wish to have permanent Improved Spell Resistance (SR 5 +Character Level)
PC4: I wish to be more wise (+1 wis)
PC5: I wish to be immune to Magic Missiles and Grease (2 1st lvl spells)
DM: Okay, PC1?
PC1: I wish for PC2 to permanently have pink skin with yellow polka dots!

Multiple Wishes (3-5) are to be used on Stats. Always.

Single Wishes should be saved for a Rainy Day. You know...the one where everyone but you is dead and you're facing an army of Devils. Use it to rewind before the encounter, or to teleport your party to safety.

"I wish we were just coming into the room for the first time." or "I wish the party was back at home near a warm fire."

If your party is especially altruistic, you could always combine your wishes to grant one PC a +4 to a particular attribute (each wish must be cast in rapid succession to achieve this effect, and each adds a cumulative +1, up to +5 if 5 wishes are used- according to the book, I believe). Of course, then that PC would owe the rest of the party one heck of a favor/ share of the treasure!

Or you could wish to have the wish whenever you desire to call upon it, thus having a powerful "get out of trouble fast" effect, once.

Or just find something in the DMG that'll help you in the short term- even if your DM reduces treasures to compensate for this, it's typically better to have an item that you've selected/created for your character, rather than one selected by the DM (which may be sub-optimal for your needs). In any case, it doesn't seem like you'd need to worry about summoning the owner of the item- demon shows up, gold dragon squishes it, and all is well with the world! :D

Sounds like what you're getting here is a divine boon - which can trump a 3rd edition wish in all sorts of ways. It's not a mortal caster, it's not even a clerical miracle: this entity is capable of doing whatever you like, although you must exercise caution. Some good examples:

"In token of the service I have done to this dragon, I wish a pact - to be able to call upon the services of any one of your worshippers, three times, with the understanding that I won't put the worshipper's life in peril."

"Very well. I desire the aid of your servants in ending the (drought, plague, etc.) in the realm of (somewhere miserable)."

"Your offer is very kind: however, I would prefer to reserve my boon until dire need is upon us. Would calling your name aloud be sufficient to draw your attention... and intervention?"

"I wish to become a cleric in your service."

"Kindly describe, in detail, the simplest way to bring about the downfall of (insert name of campaign villain or, if you feel ambitious, the name of any demon prince or archdevil)."

These are things a wish has problems with, yet I can't imagine a lesser god having difficulty with any of 'em as "favors".

WHile it is easily perverted by a really mean DM, mine would be "I wish to fly."

For game purposes, I would wish for a troll's regeneration ability. I think that's a pretty good deal.

Wishing for +1 to a stat sucks ass. Wish for +2 so you can get a +1 mod from it.

As DM I once had a player find a ring with two wishes on it. He did not know it was a wish ring, he just liked the look of it.

A few game months later he was level drained by a wraith (this was 2nd ed, so level draining REALLY sucked. I think he lost two levels). During the game he said aloud, "I wish I hadn't lost those levels." And a few minutes later I told him that the levels came back. I didn't explain and he lacked the attention span to be curious or to reason it out.

Then a few months later, during a long long long long long boring march through some godforsaken area, he said, "Man, I wish I were home." And POOF, he disappeared, reappearing in his dwarven homeland, several hundred miles away.

He then realized what he had had all along, and said, "Well, at least I got rid of those levels. And I'm not walking any more."

Wish for two more wishes.

Then use one of those wishes to keep wishing for two more wishes each time.

And then save up your wishes and buy the gods, and demand they give you infinite wishes.

One day you will rule the universe, and your GM will bow before you.

Or hookers, they work too. ;)

In my party, the thief, after my paladin told him to stop his unmoral ways of stealing, was sitting angrely in a tavern. He said: "That darn paladin telling me what not to do, i wish, the next time i see him, his head was on a pike!"
He too didn't know about the second ability on his recently found magic item, a single wish. Yep, my paladin made his save, but a following sneakattack made an end to the law in our party.

On the wish question: Go save and add +1 to an uneven stat, or go wild, i'd try permanent haste or a sword of true strike or something the size of a million goldpieces, if you want certainty of your PC's death in the end.

You can upgrade magic items. I don't see why inherent bonuses shouldn't be the same way. They are basically an internalized magic item, IMO."A ten ton ham sandwich appears 10 feet above you moving downwards at terminal velocity" :D

How could you not love the ultimate utility spell? wishes are best for when everyone in the party just got screwed and you need to TIME WALK back to save them. But i wouldnt count out wish by any chance. it can duplicate almost any spell and it can be more powerful (possibly 10000 exp worth of power) to gain even greater effects. Wish for the red dragon thats about to give you a maxamized breath weapon to be your freind instead. Fight the boss of the game twice after finding out what his true power is? yeah wish is the bomb. dont leave home without one.

As for the characters wish for a feat, wish for the ability to cast one spell per day with all metamagic feats u have applied to it, permenant celestial bodyguards, improved inspire courage ability, there are tons of options, but it really depends on your style of gaming, and your gm. if you dont love uber broken feats and powergaming, my recommendation is to save it for when the whole party has been wasted and there is no other way to survive, thats my favorite thing to do with a wish. And remember these wishes are from a Lawful good diety that isnt going to play games with your head.

Her is my wish list i give to players when they aquire one (as of yet they have only gotten one in my current campaign, and they are just reaching 14th)

What you can use a wish for
1. Can create a nonmagical item of up to 25,000 gp.
2. Can create a magical item of up to 25,000 gp, 1000 xp(anything more than 1k in xp is your xp that is used)-the initial 5k in xp is taken from caster.
3. Can wish for 1 inherent ability point
4. Can have a perm 1/- Damage Reduction
5. Can have a perm energy resistance 5 of 1 energy type
6. Can wish for 1000xp
7. Can wish for a perm SR of 14*
8. Can have 1 limited range perm ability (15ft tremorsense, 15ft blindsense, low-light vision (same as elf, if already elf then x4 sight), 15ft blindsight, 15ft scent)
9. Can wish for 10 skill points
10. Can wish for 1 feat (as long as you qualify for prereq)
11. Can wish for a perm fast heal of 2
12. Can wish for a perm regeneration of 1 per 2 hours
13. Can wish for a +1 inherent bonus to all saves
14. Can wish for any ability of up to 1000xp on the spell permanency that is listed on casters list/another creature.
15. Can wish for a perm +1 Dodge bonus to AC
16. Can wish for a perm +1 inherent bonus to base attack
17. Can wish to undo a harmful effect of a spell (such as geas/quest or insanity or blindness, baleful polymorph etc…)
18. Can wish to remove injury or any infliction (disease, mummy rot etc…)
19. Can wish to transport yourself to any location on your current material plane or any plane known by your character)
20. Can wish for a perm additional 5ft movement

Any choice after 2 stacks with any source that provides same such ability, any choice after 3 does not stack with another wish spell (so you can not wish for said ability more than 1 time)

*this does not stack with the spell Resistance spell from the PHB

The only one I seem to have come to have a problem with was the regen 1 every 2 hours. I am more than likely going to change that. I didnt think it through enough, and one of the players took it(so that 1 character will be able to keep it). Ends up that since everything (ecept fire and acid) becomes subduel damage you are able (if resting) to heal your level in HP per hour  . But live and learn I say. :D

And your DM would be altering the rules of the game if he did that, so unless he told you that beforehand, you should smack him and point him to his PHB... Preferably this part...
A wish can produce any one of the following effects.
• Duplicate any wizard or sorcerer spell of 8th level or lower, provided the spell is not of a school prohibited to you.
• Duplicate any other spell of 6th level or lower, provided the spell is not of a school prohibited to you.
• Duplicate any wizard or sorcerer spell of 7th level or lower even if it’s of a prohibited school.
• Duplicate any other spell of 5th level or lower even if it’s of a prohibited school.
• Undo the harmful effects of many other spells, such as geas/quest or insanity.
• Create a nonmagical item of up to 25,000 gp in value.
• Create a magic item, or add to the powers of an existing magic item.
• Grant a creature a +1 inherent bonus to an ability score. Two to five wish spells cast in immediate succession can grant a creature a +2 to +5 inherent bonus to an ability score (two wishes for a +2 inherent bonus, three for a +3 inherent bonus, and so on). Inherent bonuses are instantaneous, so they cannot be dispelled. Note: An inherent bonus may not exceed +5 for a single ability score, and inherent bonuses to a particular ability score do not stack, so only the best one applies.
• Remove injuries and afflictions. A single wish can aid one creature per caster level, and all subjects are cured of the same kind of affliction. For example, you could heal all the damage you and your companions have taken, or remove all poison effects from everyone in the party, but not do both with the same wish. A wish can never restore the experience point loss from casting a spell or the level or Constitution loss from being raised from the dead.
• Revive the dead. A wish can bring a dead creature back to life by duplicating a resurrection spell. A wish can revive a dead creature whose body has been destroyed, but the task takes two wishes, one to recreate the body and another to infuse the body with life again. A wish cannot prevent a character who was brought back to life from losing an experience level.
• Transport travelers. A wish can lift one creature per caster level from anywhere on any plane and place those creatures anywhere else on any plane regardless of local conditions. An unwilling target gets a Will save to negate the effect, and spell resistance (if any) applies.
• Undo misfortune. A wish can undo a single recent event. The wish forces a reroll of any roll made within the last round (including your last turn). Reality reshapes itself to accommodate the new result. For example, a wish could undo an opponent’s successful save, a foe’s successful critical hit (either the attack roll or the critical roll), a friend’s failed save, and so on. The reroll, however, may be as bad as or worse than the original roll. An unwilling target gets a Will save to negate the effect, and spell resistance (if any) applies.
You may try to use a wish to produce greater effects than these, but doing so is dangerous. (The wish may pervert your intent into a literal but undesirable fulfillment or only a partial fulfillment.)
Duplicated spells allow saves and spell resistance as normal (but save DCs are for 9th-level spells). If you do one of these things, the DM can't screw with you. It's only if you wish for something more powerful than the provided list that it can be perverted... Otherwise, no one in their right mind would ever cast the spell as there's NO wish that couldn't somehow be perverted.

Since the wishes come from a LG divinity - albeit a draconic one - there should be little reason for a DM to tamper with the wording (a LE or LN wish-granter is something else entirely!).

That said, why not save the wish for later, to bail your party out of an untenable situation, such as death or a trap.

Some may say its a waste to use a wish to mimic a lesser spell, but if it keeps the party alive, then its not a waste, is it? Especially as no PC is paying XP for it.
