8th Level Bard.... [Archive] - Wizards Community

11-28-04, 12:35 PM This is my bros character for an upcoming campaign where we start at level 8. He wants to be a bard (for RP purposes mainly).

Are there any good PrC's that you guys recommend and where are they from?

11-28-04, 01:28 PM IMO, stay straight Bard at that level. Virtuoso is OK but you give up too many Class Skills IMO.

A core class is an archetype, designed for anyone to use. A PrC is not a general archetype and is not supposed to be generally accessible. If you're picking a PrC based on 'what pre-made class gives me a cool set of powers?' rather than 'what's a character concept that can't adequately be expressed using core classes?', you're doing something wrong. This goes double for less experienced players.

11-28-04, 06:37 PM I would stick with bard level 8. Then play it as a bard through to level 10. Then prestige for level 11 and beyond.

Basically, this gives you two levels to get to know the character, the party and the gameworld. Without that knowledge, choosing a prestige class is a bad idea. With that knowledge, the player will know what he needs to specialise in.

It`s even possible that he may multiclass instead or that he will stick with bard. Still, its better to have the freedom to make those decisions in play rather than doing it before hand and regretting it.
