| Shihnaje11-02-04, 02:41 PM | Hi my nice, maybe also silver eyed, brothers and sisters ... I am looking for some other fellow-sufferer in a world of so many prejudiced creatures... ...*snif* ... be blessed Shihnaje (...maybe this is going to be the first thread for drows, that need a little bit psychological care... ) |
| Lanky Ogre Baggy Pants11-02-04, 02:59 PM | Just a warning, you are going to get flamed really bad. With the popularity of the Drizzt novels, many people have developed an aversion to Good Drow. Somehow the good version of an evil race has become cliched, especially if they happen to be rangers or dual-wield scimitars. |
| ChimericalWolf11-02-04, 04:35 PM | I've always wanted to play a cleric of Eliastree and run around naked. Too bad my group doesn't like Forgotten Realms. And I've always felt the right way to handle the idiots to shout Drizzt whenever anyone mentions Drow is to prove them wrong. |
| jnrhayz11-02-04, 05:24 PM | I have always found the idea of playing a good version of an evil race as interesting. It provides many fun roleplaying opportunities. The problem I have found, is that many DM's only bring it up when it is convenient to do so. I have had some DMs who said I would be publicaly shunned and I would have to fight my way into their (npcs) good graces. Only to go through the adventure without it coming up once. I found that to be disappointing and I only play the phb races now. It was just unrewarding to search for a new character idea, develop a complete backstory, and then watch as all of it is just flushed down the toilet. |
| CuCulain4211-02-04, 05:39 PM | I have had some DMs who said I would be publicaly shunned and I would have to fight my way into their (npcs) good graces. What about the other PC's. I find it hard to imagine non-drow PC's wanting to go out and adventure with a drow, much less trusting their backs to one. "Hey look a lone drow." "Great! let's kill it." "I magic missle the drow..." |
| Phrennzy11-02-04, 07:12 PM | The only good drow is a dead one. |
| kliate11-02-04, 07:34 PM | The only good drow is a dead one. Good for society AND the druid's animal companion! I bet drow are nice and chewy... |
| SnowbearK11-02-04, 11:22 PM | Y'know it's bad when even the Vegans say: Save a Cow, Eat a Drow! :P |
| Pain The Unbeliever11-02-04, 11:58 PM | i for one fined it far more interesting to play a drow with an evil bent. |
| Psyker Nel'Restynn11-03-04, 12:43 AM | "Hey look a lone drow." "Great! let's kill it." "I magic missle the drow..." LMAO ok, that **** is going in my sig :D |
| Count Arioch the 28th11-03-04, 12:52 AM | i for one fined it far more interesting to play a drow with an evil bent. What you need to do though is be an evil drow bard, maxed out social skills. Play the part of the good aligned drow who's struggling against bigotry and hatred, and behind the party's back do all the evil things you can get away with without being caught by the players. |
| Shihnaje11-03-04, 02:27 AM | ... is that all? No other open-minded ones, who don't want to kill me or take my thigh with a bit laurel and spice... ???? :weep: But I want to be honest to you: MOST drow ARE better dead - ... in my case: I am a cleric of elistrae, 7th, and sword dancer 1st level... and cg... My question again: Are there any other GOOD alligned Drow - and please, don't tell me more recipes... :noway: Be blessed |
| SnowbearK11-03-04, 04:49 AM | See, I'm kinda hoping you mean your character is a drow, and that you have an actual question or something to be discussed that wouldn't be better served by typing "good drow" into the board's search engine... |
| Chrys11-03-04, 08:41 AM | I used to play a Lawful Neutral Drow Monk; with the a PrC that gave me the smite choas ablity :D ( slightly change Justiclar of Try) Nothing like punching a Preistess of Loth in the Face; and watching them die in one hit :P |
| Shard of Suzail11-03-04, 09:00 AM | I despise Drow who shame their race with such treachery. Drow should be proud of their heritage and any drow who goes to the surface and starts associating with short lived, rustic ape men should be hunted down and made an example of in agonising ways. Playing a Good aligned, false god worshipping Drow is like taking an exotic work of art and giving it to workmen to use as drinks tray. The lone Drow is a sad animal, with no hint of the perfection that it could rightly achieve. |
| Phrennzy11-03-04, 09:50 AM | Food for Lolth. |
| Draco Strang11-03-04, 09:50 AM | Chrys, Nothing like punching a Priestess of Loth in the Face; and watching them die in one hit That is brilliant. Mind if I use it in my sig? |
| StormKnight11-03-04, 04:32 PM | Well, I find the idea of "monolithic personality" for a race absurd, so in my campaign (if I ever get it started), Drow are definetley not all evil. But certainly they have a societal bent to behaviors that other races might find unpleasant. (Like, say considering your pitiful insignificant life to worth less than the time it would take to slay you). But there are reasons for why they are the way they are, and there are exceptions both in areas, organizations, and individuals. |
| Callista11-03-04, 06:08 PM | I have a fellow player who has a Good-aligned Drow. She plays a female sorcerer, 3rd level, NG. Thing is, not a single one of her party knows she's a drow. She keeps herself cloaked and masked at all times, and wears gloves (despite a DM-ruled 5% arcane spell failure chance). The organization she and the fellow PCs work for is very secret; members wear masks and use pseudonyms; so she can get away with it quite well. Her backstory? Drow commoner, escaped from the underdark after one of many house wars killed just everyone (except the PC, who worked as a servant and was smart enough to hide herself in a lead-lined "panic room" after it had been cleared of various nobles). Made an extremely lucky trip out of the underdark. At this point she was true neutral ("just trying to survive") and worshipping an unnamed goddess of luck (Olidammara, of course; she just didn't know the name.) She was also smart enough to hide her identity (she initially covered her face to avoid sunlight, and afterwards figured things out) until she was hired by the aforesaid organization, which is headed by what people think is a powerful (and CG) celestial being trying to "unofficially" root out elements of evil in the kingdom. After doing this for a while, mostly for the pay, she began to hate evil; it wasn't long until she became Good herself. Very un-Drizzt-ish. We're just waiting for my barbarian, whose backstory includes a raid by drow during early adolescence (after which she spent time in the wilderness), to find out her true race. All it takes is an unconscious sorcerer and a quick Heal check... :) I don't intend to have the barbarian kill the drow, though I'll probably have her pin and attempt to strangle her, until a fellow PC using drow poison (provided by the aforementioned drow) knocks her out. Then? RP opportunities galore... :) Speaking of Good drow, I really think Neutral makes more sense. Their upbringing really doesn't give much chance for any concept of "Good", though survival (a Neutral character's priority) is a big thing for drow. Once they're exposed to other Good characters, though, their alignment might change. |
| Seirritth De Vir11-04-04, 07:49 PM | [FONT=Century Gothic]I have a Drow noble of the now Destroyed 4th house of Menzoberanzzen. He is a Swashbuckler and has yet to let the city know that he survived his house's destuction. He is Chaotic Neutral but with help he will make it to Good. He is still a Drow and a noble at that so he enjoys all that being a drow has to offer, just is not into maniacal destruction. I hope this helps. |
| Insane Pixie11-04-04, 10:38 PM | *D*R*O*W*S* - are there any other 'good'-align. ??? Yes, there are other good aligned drow. End of thread. |
| darczero11-04-04, 11:42 PM | I've PLAYED a Good drow (also CG). Fighter 14/Weapon Master 7/Barbarian 6/Legendary Dreadnought 3. Favored Weapon: Bastard sword. No Scimitar here. No Mielikki; I follow the teachings of Bahamut. Personally wearing the skin of a Great Wyrm Red Dragon, slain single-handedly (Ring of Fire Resistance, Greater/50 point version). Actively hunt Devils and Demons, mostly for fun. Okay... I dislike Drizz't as a player. Too much of a Sob Story, "Pity Me," all that rot. Then again, I dislike most FR NPC's, based mostly on a previous DM who ran many a published FR module the way they were written, and gave the NPC (whichever one it was, usually Volo or Elminster) all the spotlight. 3.x has done one thing that was in the favor of players who didn't like that style: it gave them all clearly defined, easily surpassed (and defeated) stats. Also, has anyone else noticed that most of the existing FR NPC's are Epic? And quite boring? |
| markhaus11-05-04, 09:26 AM | There are many many many good drow. The RA Salvatore books made sure of that. Unfortunately they have become irritating. From the amount of good drow people want to play you would think the whole race was a bunch of agonized insane people who think their race is evil, when in all actuality, only about 3 evil drow exist... primarily to hunt down their good brethren. 1-3 good drow per campaign world. No more!!!!! (and dont whine when good characters slaughter you. dont call it racism. Accept that you are playing an evil race and there are consequences) When the race is noted for its poison use and magical nature, it is better to kill a drow then find out if it is the one good drow in the world. Not IMO, just fact. |
| Leibel11-05-04, 01:09 PM | Drow just seem to make for good threads - Here goes. Alot depends on how Drow are in a homebrew world - Culturally I base elves off of Minbari from Babylon 5 so Drow are the warrior caste, high elves worker and snow elves religious. There is an elf civil war that's been going on for 600+ years w/defectors on both sides - the rate is 5% of drow are good and 5% of snow/high elves are evil(I had a LE high elf ranger as an NPC in a earlier campaign - me and the PC's will probably do a trilogy). BTW/ around 5% of Drow are good anyway. Lloth is a Cleric/Lore Mistress/Vampire(Long story - don't ask) so she still takes sacrifices and they are usually from the 5% of good drow which just motivates the other good drow to leave. My campaign has 2 redeemed drow -one is a Wizard NPC w/considerable political power(it's a long story) and the party's druid. And yes noone is spared the horror stories of what the LN Drow Wizard did before he got to be LN(What did you think he was picking daisies while all the other drow were murdering, raping and plundering). I have put my foot down and said no more good drow - the only possibility is a rescue mission of the drow druids sister. And I have some nasty drow villains so it's not all nice drow. It's a long winded way of saying roleplaying, character traits and a good backround for how the drow got evil helps. |
| devinmdp11-05-04, 02:27 PM | Has the goth movement now encompassed drow? I thought it was bad enough with wannabees pretending they were vampires in real life. Now we get drowannabees? I still can't figure out what the original poster posted and why? As mentioned, the poster has not asked anything about the game. Let's mark this up to another drow-are-so-cool-heads and move on to actual game discussions. |
| Kitzan Ulvatiz11-05-04, 07:26 PM | My freind tony plays a female drow sorceres and we did not all kill her when we saw her cause i didnt detect any evil(paly). Although we did have to knouckout our wizard to stop him from casting fireball on her... |
| CuCulain4211-06-04, 07:27 AM | My freind tony plays a female drow sorceres and we did not all kill her when we saw her cause i didnt detect any evil(paly). Although we did have to knouckout our wizard to stop him from casting fireball on her... That's all well and good if you have a member that can, and is willing to, cast Deterct Evil. If you do: "Hey. look its a good drow." "Well, let it pass. I guess we gan't kill it." "Hey drow get movin'. We don't want your kind around." "Yea, move on." Good does not equal immune to bigotry and stereotypes. |
| Kojiro James11-06-04, 11:48 PM | Do I role play a good-aligned drow? HAHAHA HA HA HAHAHAHAHA!! No. I do role play a neutral evil drow sorcerer that worships Shar. Yes he is renegade, but at least I'm being a little more original here. I take with stride the cliched "Drizzt clone" jokes, because I know that the twisted, horrible things my character does would never be perpetrated by the "righteous and noble" Drizzt Do'urden. And yes, my drow has plenty of reason to be distrusted by his party members, since after all, he is a drow that is evil and worships Shar and is actually plotting to later become a powerful lich and stab everyone in the back to further his own ends. My character is far from being a whiny, angsting little SOB that can't stand that his race is evil. No... my character is a conniving, scheming, and manipulative little bastard... one day, when he's finally a lich and high level, he might return to Menzoberranzan and raze it down to the ground just for the heck of stubbing it to Lolth and causing utmost ruin to the matriarchy. He really doesn't like Lolth or women, for that matter. |
| Callista11-07-04, 01:46 AM | I agree. Good drow should be played with caution, and by experienced role-players, or not at all. |
| Salla11-08-04, 11:02 PM | Drow are sentient beings, and as such, can choose their behaviors. While cultural influences would make evil drow far more common than good, there's absolutely nothing stopping drow from being good. I run very non-racist worlds where actions matter more than appearance, so until you actually *do* something evil, you may be looked at suspiciously, but most people aren't going to give you a lot of grief. Even an average shmuck farmer whose feat list consists of 'Weapon Proficiency: Pitchfork' and nothing else will realize that you can't stereotype people like that. The people who *do* stereotype like that are villains 90 percent of the time. |

| AlexVronsky11-09-04, 10:44 AM | I'm currently playing in a drow game, and I think it much more fun to play a right thinkingl drow than a 'good' one. And if you run into any other drow you should hope you don't end up like the ellistrae worshipper we found. Nasty business that. There's also always something of interest going on with the various plots and intrigues both against you or your house and that you're engaging in. Just something to think about before you're corrupted by the rothen ideologies. Ilythiiri ultrin! |
| CuCulain4211-09-04, 10:56 AM | Even an average shmuck farmer whose feat list consists of 'Weapon Proficiency: Pitchfork' and nothing else will realize that you can't stereotype people like that. Wow your world has a very enlightened population. I guess that means no witch hunts or inquisitions or anything that parralells real life history. I didn't think that stereotyping was neccessarily a "villainous" act. I know plenty of people who have stereotype of others and they ar basically good people. |
| Kojiro James11-09-04, 09:52 PM | People... let's get this straight... bigotry does not equal evil or villainy. Anyone recall the numerous councils commuted by the "good" races in fantasy books? They're so distrusting of each other, it isn't even funny... and they're suppose to be the noble heroic types! The difference between good racists and evil racists is that evil racists go way overboard with such things as slavery or genocide. |
