Hello Everyone! :)

I was wondering, what would happen if a spell caster that could cast wish at level 20 needed to cast it twice? Say, to negate a series of negative effects?

Umm. . . playing by core rules you can't experience beyond level 20. . . but then the moment you casted wish you'd drop to level 19, and be unable to cast another wish until you had accumulated another 5000 exp points.

Is there any way to off-set this? Would a pearl of power work? . . Or not really?

(First time making a spell casting character, please excuse my ignorance)

Thank you for any feedback!

first you cannot spend xp and go down a level the game mechanics do not allow you to spend the xp if it would cause a decrease in level

and apparently you could use a pearl of power and would have to spend the experience for each wish but you would not be allowed to spend enough to go down a level

Rats. So a character at level 20 who just learned wish could never cast it? :(

you could if you had an extra 5,000 XP to expend per wish otherwise no

you could try to find another wizard/sorcerer to cast the spell and have them waste their xp but that would be costly

you could also hope to find a scroll of wish or a ring of three wishes

edit:
also going above level 20 is in core DMG page 206 has the xp charts and all for characters above level 20 just so you know

yeah but you get to fight the tarrasque I mean that is so cool plus as you get more epic it will be more possible for you to learn to cast every spell in the game (have them all in your spellbook not cast them all in one day)

well not by yourself no with your party and some good planning (excelent planning actually) maybe yes. unless it is like a herd of tarrasque (which is not suposed to happen but it would make a cool battle)

and the weather here is nice (Floral Park is on Long Island which is part of New York just in case you didn't already know) and I hope the weather where you are is nice too

Pelor be with you

Note that per the rules a character does not have to level when they accumulate enough xp for the next level, they can instead to choose to remain at the same level so as to use the xp for item creation and/or spells with xp components.
