Is there prestige class, modification, anything someone can do to make a bard more than a "0" in melee?
Multiclassing in fighter is an option but i'm worried about the bardic music abilities... suggestion will come too late...
Any one has a prestige class or maybe anotehr class that has the musical element in it's abilities that's better in melee?

thanks...

FTR: It has to be compatible with an exalted deeds campaign... not too much deceiptiveness..

Well, there's the savage bard variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#bardVariantS avageBard) from Unearthed Arcana, but it's not that much different than the regular bard. Really, it's little more than a change on the bard's spell list, but the fluff says that they often multiclass into barbarian to help their combat abilities.

You could always multiclass into rogue or a Sneak Attacking PrC to help yourself in melee.

Take 3 levels Bard for Inspire Courage, then multiclass into either Warblade or Crusader from Tome of Battle and at 6th level take the feat Song of the White Raven.

Play a half-orc (or orc if allowed). Put the second highest stat you've got on strength, with con the third (obviously charisma is first). Wield two clubs, and use a drum-set to inspire. Only attack with one weapon (as to avoid TWF penalties), using the other club to "keep the beat going".

You should be only one to three points behind the warriors of the group (at first level), which isn't all that bad.

That and you have the 3/4 BAB, which means you still have a good hit percentage.

My party bard (okay, the player was lazy with character creation, and came to me and said "You make characters like daily. Make me a Dwarven melee Bard.") simply made Strength his second highest stat (and Con his third), took Weapon Focus ASAP, and goes for the flank one round after singing a buff. Doesn't do as well as, say, the Barbarian or the Paladin, but can hold his own.

Well, there's a feat in frost burn, Snowflake Wardance, that lets you spend a use of your bardic music to gain a bonus on to hit with a one-handed slashing weapon equal to your charisma bonus for a number of rounds equal to your perform (dance) skill ranks.

The Arcane Strike feat from Complete Arcane is pretty decent for gish types, and would be okay for bards. It won't be quite as good as it would for a dedicated gish, because you cap at 6th level spells, and you get each level later than a wizard, but it's not too bad.

Basically, you blow through a spell slot to gain a bonus to hit and damage for all your attacks that round. The higher level the spell slot, the bigger the bonus.

I'd probably go for something like Bard 8/Fighter 2/dervish 10 (or warchanter, or swiftblade) if I'm lazy, although Bard/Abjurant champion/swiftblade isn't too bad either. Consider getting Dragonfire inspiration - a 1d6 to damage can be more useful than +1 to attack and damage... at times.

Seriously, the bard has some pretty ok boosts, he shouldn't do be useless in melee unless the player has made some pretty bad choices with feats and spells known.
