A betrayal? rant [Archive] - Wizards Community

This is basically how this started.

My Old wizard (a diviner who lasted 2 day :weep: ) died and our party needed a new arcane caster (just trust me when I say we NEED one) and since our party was headed to a mummy's tomb so I thought "Hey! how about my new wizard be there to investigate the tomb for historical/magic purposes". My New Wizard is a Red Wizard by the way (not evil but definatley Lawful Neutral).

Anyway the party arrives there and my character is investigating the outer tomb markings, so as soon as I am aware of them My character greets them. Only to get nothing said to him in response for 5 minutes  where then the Dream Dwarf Druid is the only one to talk to him and ask my Wizard for help with the tomb and giving him all the old wizard's stuff as incentive to join.

Turns out that we end up in an inescapable dungeon (no real suprise there since it happens almost every other month, and thats IN GAME TIME but that is another story) Anyway the Red Wizard and Druid end up getting along fairly well. However the other 2 members of the party exasperate my character to no end with just being retarded.

Examples of this are: throwing MY trap testing pole away within 2 minutes of entering, not choosing a direction EVER then when I go some direction going the opposite way unless I run into something then they are zoom there for the final bits of the fight and then take a full share of treasure, constantly insinuating that he was going to die, roughing him up when he lied once (an insignifigent one that proved to be more benficial then anything), not letting me solve the SIMPLE but long puzzle and instead setting off traps of plenty  .

Anyway to make this shorter, when we finally had a way out we had picked up a ghoul (don't ask) who carried all treasure and was useful the druid and I were constant companions (Support character supporting each other was our joke :D ) and I only had 3 spells of invisabilty so I just asked the Druid in the middle of the night if he just wanted to leave without them cause they were useless.

So we left by ourselves. The other characters got out eventually and then came at us full speed with weapons drawn (which we apparently could never translate as a hostile action  ) and because our DM was just tired of this had us have it full out in a open field 85 ft away each other (realize that our former comrade could fly and could kill me in just about one hit but didn't  ) which we won easily.

After all this the 2 players who characters were offed were so indignat that they argued and complained for so long (3 hours) and insulted us on a regular basis that the player who played the druid left. So things are FUBARed.

Was I justified or am I just a horrible evil person?

I think you were justified. Of course I only know your side of the story, but assuming that everything you said is true then you were justified.

If I was adventuring with some people who were putting my life in danger intentionally, I would leave them. If I found a member or two of the group who agreed with me, then I would ask them to join. If they later decided to attack me, I would defend myself accordingly.

I would wait a couple of days for things to calm down and ask them why they felt the need to harrass you so much with your new character. Maybe they didn't realize that they were causing so many problems and just wanted to have some fun. Maybe things spiralled out of control from there.

I would also ask the DM why he didn't intervene earlier. Maybe he didn't realize at first that this was as disruptive as it turned out to be.

If there are no satisfactory answers, you may need to find a new group. It won't be much fun gaming with people who are going to hold a grudge.

Ha ha, I always get in such a good mood when I read stuff like this. It makes me realize I'm not alone.

Nah, you did fine. It was the other players that acted like jerks, putting you in danger and all that. That's not how you treat your companions. It doesn't matter that you had just met them. After all, they wanted your help, right? Adventurers rely on each other to watch their backs, "it's a dangerous buisness, going out your door."

But what were the reasons for their behaviour, out of game? Are they like that all the time, or was it something else that triggered it? Are there something you're not telling us here..?

That is by far one of the worst cases of player immaturity I have ever heard. You play with these idiots why? It seems they forgot the first rule of D&D: HAVE FUN WITHOUT RUINING EVERYONE ELSE'S FUN. If I were that DM, I would have taken the two antagonist players aside and told them "hey, quit being dicks or you're out of this game permanently. What do you have against this guy anyway? He's not actively trying to mess with you, why are you?"

Oh cm'on, its seperated into complete paragraphs, and proper captialization and punctuation is used, even if he does have alot of run on sentences or sentence fragments.

At any rate, you were completely justified by the sounds of it, and for the players to take it beyond characterization is silly and immature.

That's what I was asking for; before it was a giant wall of text. :P

I believe some measure of blaim needs to fall on the DM for allowing the players to get away with some of their metagaming behavior, which encouraged them to act the way they did when you proposed an RP solution.

There's no way that's a kitty. It has the half-hampster template, at the least.

I assure you it's a kitty. You're probably seeing a hamster because it's what you want to see, and because of my squirrel avatar.
