| jebus-san08-17-05, 09:45 PM | I play a a 23 level human Sorcerer and he is getting up there in years so i have decieded to become a lich. Now the problem i have is that i don't like the idea of leaving my soul in a small metal box locked up in a castle with out some powerful magic spells. I have already had a Cleric agree to put an permanint anti-life shell on my soul gem thing and i was wondering what to do about all the angry Vampires and Nercomancers out there that may have it in for me. So i was wondering what other spells to use to help keep me inmortal forever. thanks for the help :) |
| Brave Sir Bevier08-17-05, 10:37 PM | Is your character good, evil or neutral? |
| fallabel08-18-05, 08:51 AM | To guard against Vampires, Permanent Daylight. |
| Fort deadly kick08-18-05, 09:04 AM | Bury it. Mix it in with the foundations of a new building. Drop it in the ocean. |
| Phaylan the Drow08-18-05, 09:04 AM | give yourself a phylactory enima................. what they cant get to they cant destroy, also i would put a perminanced contingency spell teleporting your phylactory back to a very, very safe place ie your colleges bag of holding who is a priest in a temple of pelor or some such deity, just an idea so if their any holes it will make it more fun for your dm, it has to be fun for the dm as well. |
| fallabel08-18-05, 09:20 AM | Seems like another wizard in this forum needs to cast Mordenkainen's Impeccable Spelling... |
| Phaylan the Drow08-18-05, 09:25 AM | :D :D or tenser's transformation (libarian/clerk) or polymorph (pedant) :D :D |
| DraconsNighthawk08-19-05, 11:41 AM | See if you can find information on gaining Aumvor's fragmented phylactery. This spell makes it so you can ether break up your current phylactery into multiple parts, or add more parts to it. The creator of this spell did it a skeleton, and shattered the bones across the world. Cast that spell, and do one better. Make the peices part of golems, put them in items that can't be digested, and throw them into the stomachs of monsters like Trasques. Put others into pits of gold and give them as gifts to dragon. Add magical protections to it, and your now immortal seeing as pesky evil dooers or good guys need to destroy every single one of those fragmented parts then kill you to finally destroy you. |
| tharivol26608-19-05, 11:43 AM | if u put it somewhere where theres no chance of someone just happening upon it and then just dont cause trouble in that area u should be fine. no monsters on the road u face will either live long enough or be smart enough to hunt it down.and if u more or less stay under the radar of all the goody twoshoes clerics/pallys then they wont come after it. but i do think hiding it under a building is good with a perma contingency to teleport away from there if it starts to be disrupted. |
| WizardlyFriend08-19-05, 01:00 PM | although this may seam silly, im dead serious when i say no one will look here. in the chest of your construct that guards your tower. |

| tarkin08-19-05, 09:28 PM | It always made more sense to me to turn yourself into something that did not age, rather than to go Lichdom. 20 levels of monk does it, as do 10 levels of many Prestige Classes (Elemenatalist for example) Lichdom is SO 20th century. Go for something wierder. |
| Veton08-19-05, 09:55 PM | It always made more sense to me to turn yourself into something that did not age, rather than to go Lichdom. 20 levels of monk does it, as do 10 levels of many Prestige Classes (Elemenatalist for example) Lichdom is SO 20th century. Go for something wierder. The only problem with that method is that the classes that I know of that gives you the ability to stop aging, you still die when your time is up. Being a Lich allows you to live for as long as you want or until your phylactery is destroyed. One idea I heard was to make it a copper coin, and pay a minion with it. You can then use Discern Location occasionally to find out where it is. You should probably ask your DM if Liches come back near their phylactery, so that you can take it away if it's near someone who might endanger it. People who want to destroy you probably wouldn't have touched it before, and you could use several lower level spells to protect it from spells that could help them find it (such as Nystul's Magic Aura to hide the magic) |
| tharivol26608-19-05, 10:08 PM | 10 levels of green start adept turns u into a living construct(much like a warforged) and u dont age or die from being old |
| Steely Glint08-19-05, 10:30 PM | The first thing you need is a permanent protection against divinations. Sequester is good if your DM will allow you to cast permanency on it, as is a screen cast around the hiding place. Then it's a simple matter of hiding it in a spot no one will ever go. For example, you could shapechange into an earth elemental, glide a half mile straight down into the bedrock, disintegrate a little pocket in the rock, and place your phylactery in it. Another important thing is that no one other than you can have ever seen or touched the phylactery. This will cause divinations like discern location to fail. If anyone ever touches it, it would probably be a good idea to kill them and use trap the soul or similar magics to make sure the secret disappears with them. If you want to be extra paranoid, follow a previous suggestion and split it into multiple parts. Hide each part in an equally out of the way spot, like the bottom of the ocean under 10 feet of sediment. |
