Ive never played a Mage or Sorcerer in any AD&D version before.

I love to play tanks, warriors and fighters even ranger. never a Paladin.. They are too good and lawfull a character for me.

I decided to try something a little bit different in one of my current campaigns.

I went with a Warrior - Mining Clans Dwarf to start with.
After a second level in warrior I got to thinking.. Maybe I could be a Sorcerer. So I talked to the DM and he allowed me to multi-class ( its a custom world.. no level/class restrictions aside from a damb good reason why)

A little time has passed (about 14 adventures +/- 2 little over 3 months real time) My dwarf is now a Level 3 (or 4) Warrior and a Level 2 Sorcerer ( I stopped advancing in Sorc for the present)

Currently my focus is on getting my Warrior abilitys up.. as well as gaining a mastery in mining, black/weapon/armorsmithing and many other trade skills.

This Character is being roleplayed as a merchant. his clan sent him out to seek out some new mines. as the current ones will go dry in about 200 years at the projected increase in useage over time. I am enjoying playing him as a merchant.. Some of the party sees him as very gready.. He hauls the treasure and I am the one that keeps track of party loot/items.

However if anyone in the party needs coin for anything, he will use his own moeny to pay for it.. Never touches the party funds aside from to keep them safe. He also always goes last when the party splits up loot at the end of the night.

A few weeks ago I picked up the Tome/Blood Book, basically to find out more about what a sorcerer is. At that point i still had never played 3.0 he is in a custom world.

Looking through the kits in that book. I found the Dragon Disciple Kit. Orrigionally i counted it out.. loooked interesting for a human, but probally not feasable for a dwarf. Back burner but still on my mind. Asked the DM bout it when I stopped over to drop of some merchant type info and the Armor/equiptment book i had picked up. He said yeah sure, there aint nothing wrong with it. Your dwarf could even keep his beard if he wanted to.

This has gotten me a thinking bout it alot for the past couple weeks. Hence the reason for posting here.

I realize to become one I must learn Klownedge:Arcania 8 and Lang:Draconic. Currently I have 4 or 5 ranks in Knowlege:magic (same as know:Arcania in this custom world) So a few more levels in Sorcerer will be required to make the change and I must find someone to teach me Draconic. No worries will probally be atleast 6 or so months before I am high enough levels to make the change.

Current Stats are as Follows.
19 Str
14 Dex
19 Con
12 Int
11 Wis
16 Chr

In the custom world stats increase on a stat check and roll of 1/20 by 1 point or a stat check 1/100 for d4 points (smae for skills)

Current Spells Known are as Follows
1st: Lessor Fire Orb, Hair, Fools Gold, Identify
2nd: None relative as of yet
3rd: none yet known but can cast 1.

I am still debating between which type of Dragon to aspire to. It is narrowed down to Brass or Gold.. as My dwarf love the forge/hence a Fire based Dragon. Re: Good alignemt, Current Alignemnt is CG-with NG tendancies.

There is no other mage/sorcerer type member of the party.
I wear Scale Mail armor, use a Large Shield and War Hammer or Pick Axe and no shield.

I'll Go ahead with my questions now, as I think that is enough back ground information..

Should I go ahead and get the levels in Sorcerer to allow me to cast the highest spell based on my CHR? or Stop advancing after I meet the Min requirments to join the Kit. ie: two more levels.

Once I do become a Dragon Disciple.. will go through the special abilitys one by one. Just looking for advice on roleplaying it out.

1st : HD increase from d4 - d6 and +1 natural AC
HD no problem. Im just a little tougher.. fits with my warrior training.
+1 natural armor "his skin develops tiny iridecent scales, nearly invisable at first but becoming more noticable at higher levels ..as his skin thickens takes on more and more of his progenitor's physical aspect."

Do I just say that that my skin has tiny scales upon it.. very small.. almost as though my scale mail is rubbin off onto me, so to speak?

lv 2 Claw and Bite Ability
Do I actually grow claws or are my nails just tougher? and do my teeth sharpen to points or just become stronger?

lv3 Breath Weapon 1/3 strengh - basically I can breath out a little fire.. to help with my melting metal?

lv4 HD increase
d6-d8
im more tough now.. again due to my figher training.

lv 5 Enlargment, +2 natural ac.
Size Change from med - large. How many feet would this mean I grow.. I am currently 5"2.
How would I describe my Natural Armor.. Scales visable on my skin under my hair? (as noted above DM permission will not loose my beard/hair)

lv 6 HD increase
d8-d10
Basically I gain as many HD as I would were I advancing as a fighter. Easy enough to explane away.

lv7 Breath weapon 2/3 power
Would this let smoke excape from my mouth as I am talking norammly to people.. or no visable effect aside from useage.

lv8 +3 Natural Armor

Scales would be very well developed and visable to a casual glance? only description i could find was "more noticable at higher levels...his skin thickens, the dd takes on more and more of his progenitor's physical spect."

lv 9 Wings
"..grow wings. can fly at their normal speed (adverage maneuverability.)"

What exactly would my wings look like? Just like a dragons wings?

lv 10 Dragon apotheosis
".. The DD fully realizes his dragonic heritage and takes on the half dragon template. Breath Weapon reaches full strenght. Gains +4 STR and +2 CHR, Natural armor= +4, aquires Low-light vision and dark vision (60') Immunity to sleep/paralyis effects and and additional immunity based on dragon varity.

Where would I find a Half-Dragon template?
What do I actually look like now.. Remember I do still get to keep my beard and Hair, just all my visable skill is now scaled?
Whats the differance between darkvision and Low-Light vision? I already have 60' infravision as a dwarf.

basically I am asking for a little more clarification on the physical changes that will occur to my dwarf durring his change from dwarf-halfdragon.

I understand the changes stat wise.. Just not physical and hence role play wise. Any assistance to this would be greatly appriceated by me.

Many Thanks for Assistance upon this querry

Is this the right forum to ask about what a player is to do when a species change occurs to them?

21 views no responce. I feel as though I am doing something wrong with this post. But I am at a loss where to post it.. I'll repost it under classes, as well see if that be a makin a differenace in what responce i get from people.. as well as in the dm forum. I do not mean to spam it. I just dont know where to post the thread at.

Oh, be patient. 21 views is nothing.

On topic. First, I note you're 3.0 not 3.5, so some of this advice might be slightly skewed...

You slowly metamorphose into a half-dragon. That's the reference to the half-dragon template at the end; you don't actually need the template since all the necessary notes are right there in the class description, and you 'pay' for it in real levels rather than a level adjustment. That said, the template is in the Monster Manual - ask your DM if you want a squiz at it.

Before you start taking the levels, you're a dwarf. Once you reach level 10, you're a cross between a humanoid and a dragon, with something of your dwarfhood left. You're about twice as big ("enlargement"), have draconic wings, leathery skin with probably a covering of light scales (like a smooth lizard).

Note that this transition is probably gradual, although the game mechanics only kick in at certain points. For example, you'd start increasing in size from about level 3, but it's only at level 5 that you're large enough to be considered 'large', and you keep increasing slowly from there to a full 'large' size (about twice that of a dwarf - in each dimension). You may need to get your armour re-size a few times. At some point, about level 6 or 7, proto-wings will sprout. While not useful for flight, they will cause problems with armour.

Likewise, by the end of the transition you probably have clawed 'hands' and fangs rather than teeth; it seems from the description that these are some of the first to change. Be prepared to have all your melee weapons re-gripped at level 2, and probably unable to use standard bows (crossbows should be OK). You may also have trouble with fine dexterity tasks like writing, but better at things requiring a strong grip (climbing a tree). Gauntlets could be a hassle, but then your hands are probably tough enough to make them less necessary.

Breath weapon wouldn't be overly noticeable unless used. The inside of your mouth would toughen, though. While you're not likely to actively smoke, your breath may be warmish or coldish or acrid, or you might occasionally cough up mildly acidic bile, depending on the breed of dragon.

First a clarification, the world is a totally custom one, using mostly 2ed and 1ed charts. Needing to get weapons regripped, I only really use two weapons, my warhammer (masterwork) and a mining pick (normal). Armor is scalemail, no gauntlets as of right now.. they interfear to much with ma work on the forge.

I am however a blacksmith (25 ranks) , miner (12 ranks), armorsmith(6 ranks) and weaponsmith (3ranks). In this world master level is 40 ranks in a weapon or skill. Which bascially means that by the time I get around to changing my second class from sorcerer to dragon disciple I should be at least master level in weapon/armor smithing.. which basically means i'll be able to regrip my own warhammer (masterwork currently so need the 40 ranks to modifiy it) As for the armor.. I should also be a master level armorer by the time i make the change as well, so will also be able to modify my scale mail so that it will be able to fit me with the wings..

on the wings. What exactly is a proto-wing? Kinda just the bare bones and tendens of the wings, no leathery coverings or if so very light?

I still wonder how I would describe the scales that slowly cover my body.

Thank you fer the responce, I greatly appriceate it.
