A game so broken it makes Limbo look sane [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-24-06, 12:12 PM Well, I'm playing a Rogue5/Assasin1/Executioner2 (Mongoose publishing - Quintessential Rogue.) But that isn't the problem. When I was level 6, me and my party (A whole one person.) Came across 2.2 MILLION gold by winning a tournament and putting money on us at like 20-1 Odds. Level 6. 1.165 million ƒor each of us. I knew the campaign would be broken. I'm now running around with a +24 equiveleant weapon (Don't ask) And we go to a major city. I feel like assasinating the mayor, because..well, he was a jerk. I go there late at night.

Me: I'll head to the front door, and begin picking locks. I have PLENTY oƒ free time to do so, since the guards arn't patrolling this area, so I'll take 20s on my rolls.
DM: Okay. But there's 35,000 locks, and about halƒ oƒ them are magical.
Me:...Fine. I head to the windows.
DM:Barred.
Me: Uh..+24 weapon? Cuts through them like butter.
DM: Nope.
Me: So every single bar is atleast made of Adamantine, and is +25 equivalent?
DM: Uh..yeah.

What do I do? I've gone to the Theives, Assasins, and mages guild. They CAN'T help me for some reason. Cant dig under it, can't break that many locks, and the bars are..Impossible. Suggestions? I really need some help on this one.

06-24-06, 12:17 PM Looks like the DM is going to pull reasons out of his backside for every tactic you're going to try.

How high is your UMD check? My next attempt would include a scroll of ethereallness and just walk through the wall.
Teleporting is also an option.

My recommendation would be this...
Quit. Quite your group now. That sounds like the worst and most immature DM ever.

If that isn't a good enough idea, ask him how the hell the mayor gets out of his house every morning if he has that many locks to undo? He'd still be undoing them by bed-time.

Then quit.

06-24-06, 01:16 PM 2 problems. My UMD is 2. And my DM is one oƒ my best friends. The campaign is fun, but it's broken beyond repair in my view. Also, the mayor, the clerk and everyone who works in his oƒfice never leaves. Ever. In the past 6 months.

06-24-06, 01:49 PM OK, you are being railroaded, which IMHO is something to avoid. But it's a pretty small trip. All he wants is for you not to kill 1 NPC. Ask him out of game why he doesn't want you to kill the mayor. Maybe he has an adventure hook planned. Maybe he really enjoys roleplaying the mayor. If that's the case then leave the guy alone; trust me, NEVER kill the Gm's pet character. Anyway, I know it sucks, but there are plenty of deserving NPCs you can kill, so go find one.

PS try to arrange a face to face with the mayor, no weapons of course. Then kill him with your bare hands.

Gloves oƒ weapon storing. =) I always have my dagger. But, a good Idea that I shall try to follow. I am a bit homocidal, so it will all be okay. ^___^

A +24 weapon??? That isn't even in Epic.

Basically, it sounds like your DM is trying to salvage a broken campaign ... I suggest you all quit and start a new game for reasons of sanity, this one isn't going to have anything left in it but frustration.

Just for the record, did you try the Knock spell or phyisically knocking on the door?

Try the following:

1. Cast 'knock' (as was already suggested).
2. Cast etherealness and phase through the wall.
3. Burn the building to the ground.

Now, since we all know that none of these are going to work, you could just skip ahead to the part where you say, "Wow, this game is ****ing stupid. I'm going to go and do ________ [where "________" is an enjoyable activity]."

But that's not as much fun.

You said it yourself, the game looks like it was something dreamed up by a Neothilid, it's just insane. Your DM is clearly trying to salvage what is an impossibly broken situation. Use your money, buy a fiefdom, retire. Roll new characters.

06-25-06, 04:46 PM Roll up a handy copy of Dragon magazine and hit your DM not so gently on the nose while telling him that he's a very bad dog. Only through repetition will the lesson be learned. You must be consistent with him otherwise he'll lapse back into periods of bad behaviour.

I agree with many of the above statements. But mainly tell you DM its time to start fresh and if he doesn't agree, quit and find a new gaming group.

And give up on killing the mayor, he obviously will do anything to keep him from dying.
