I want to make a character that is good with his weapon but still a cleric. I'm pretty sure the way to go is with fighter 8/cleric but I figured I might need some input as to where to cut one off and start the other. Any ideas?

1. for a good build head over to the character optimization forums. They know the rules and can offer you good solid advice.

2. You can simply take cleric levels and use your spells to augment your combat ability. Divine power is the best known way to get some extra power.

Clerics are pretty darn good with weapons as it is, assuming they use the right spell selection. If you want a special weapon, choose the appropriate deity with the War Domain.

2nd this. Going into ordained champion and possibly taking feats for either Divine metamagic persist or quicken is also an effective route.

Take 4 levels of fighter, get weapon specialization, and focus on buffing spells. Or go pure cleric then shift to divine champion. Or just take a friggin' paladin.

Then be a cleric. Medium bab is just fine for a martial character, and the difference in power between simple and martial weapons becomes minimal as you get higher in level. Medium bab plus nine levels of spellcasting, including cures, save-or-dies, and potent buffs like divine power to make your bab equal the fighter, is just plain mean.

Could someone tell me exactly what a divine champion is?

And I was thinking along the lines of getting a 4th attack, not necessarily being able to hit.

How about Prestige Paladin? You lose the Pally spells & take a hit to Cleric casting, but its a pretty good choice.

Having a fourth attack isn't as good as being able to hit. Especially since that fourth attack isn't very likely to hit if you don't have the BAB to back it up.

1: pally's are know to have an "i have a stick up my butt" class feature, so I don't really like to play them (nor do I like playing much else lawful good)
2: by the time I get the fourth attack, my weaponry and equipment will be doing most of the attack rolls, and not me anyway, so I'd rather not deal with BAB issues.

Never take fighter over 4, if that. If you're willing to lose high level casting any way, try Ruby Knight Vindicator from Tome of Battle. Crusader+cleric. Edit: Checked the book. Cleric4/Crusader1/RKV10/Cleric5 gets BAB17 and 17th level casting. RKV gives best bab and 8/10 casting plus manouvers and some extra goodies.

Cleric doesn't really need any other base classes though (prc are nice of course). http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=691564

Make sure one of your domains is War. It's pretty darn good for this kind of thing. Strength might be worth a look too.

Thats called Lawful Stupid Not lawful good.

If you want to have a Divine caster that has a focus on melee weapons you can dust off that old complete divine and look at favored soul.

Divine power gives you full bab, which includes a 4th attack if your bab is high enough. At higher lvs, you will be looking at pesistent divine favour, then beginning combat with a divine power. If persistent spell is not allowed, then replace persistent spell with quicken spell (so combat starts with divine power + quickened divine favour).

This pretty much gives you the benefits of being a fighter (full bab, divine favour replicates weapon spec tree).

You really can't go wrong with pure cleric.:)

Wait a sec... I don't have any of these books, and for those of you who told what books these prcs are in thanks, but where is divine champion from?

1 level in fighter/19 in cleric, divine metamagic (persistant) [divine might/power (forget which)]. DMM is not broken, psions are not broken, duskblades are actually kinda underpowered considering the abilities they ould have, and legacy weapons don't suck, just 'cause something looks bad on paper doesn't mean it's bad in play.

There are some feats in Complete Champion you oughta' look into; various devotion feats which would augment your smashitude, for instance.

There's always warpriest. The idea being that it's an Eldritch Knight for Clerics. Essentially you lose one divine caster level for full base attack bonus and lots of abilities.

Full bab prcs are wasted on a cleric.;)

Divine Power, Divine Favor, and Righteous Might. If you wish, and have a good CHA, pick up Divine Might and Shield(especially if you are using a two-handed weapon) instead of turning undead from Complete Warrior.

I advise against Warpriest, the BAB is nice, but you lose out on your spell casting. If you don't want to cast, there are probably better options out there then making a cleric who can't cast the higher level spells.

Alright. Unfortunately I have no books and only the 3.5 SRD to take from, so I now have a fighter 4/cleric. How's that to you guys? I think it's a bit low on BAB but with levels that will change. Tnx guys.
