Hey everyone, I'm kinda new to these forums but I've been lurking abit.

Anyhow, I have a slight problem with understanding the Knight Protector prestige class from Complete warrior. The role is fairly clear cut. (I guess, if you have a good aligned character), but, the problem comes with the required alignments. (Lawful neutral or Lawful good).

The Knight protector is tasked with upholding chivarly, and chivalry is defined by the Knightly virtues, and after having researched those. The character quickly becomes a Lawful Good paladin without a God, no matter what alignment you aspire to. I usually don't like playing Lawful Good characters but I do enjoy the challenge of a code which is why Lawful Neutral appeals to me.

Does anyone have an idea of how a lawful neutral Knight Protector could be portrayed without turning into a Godless paladin?

Sorry btw, my problem is hard to explain. Though I hope I got it across, sort of...

I saw a class for a LN paladin once, I think in a dungeon magazine. They fight against Chaos at every chance. You could play him as a noble mercenary fighting only for good but would ask to get paid or something in return (land, titles, etc.).

Well, lawful neutral character could be strict about the rules and chivalry code.

If his task is to protect the kingdom, king, etc. he would stick to the goal no matter what sacrifices (not necessarily his own) he has to make.
A paladin would have a great problem, if in order to defeat the evil lord and save the kingdom he would have to kill an innocent.
A LN knight would not. It's his duty. *stab*... "Yes, it's a pity I have to slay her, but I had to do that. There were no other way to get to Xykon's lair."

He wouldn't be altruistic. He would care about orc problems in town X not because he wants to help, but because it's his duty. Well... he would want to help, but because "I want to serve the king and justice" rather than "I don't want them to suffer".

You should be chivalrous to ladies and nobles, but not to your lessers.

Of course, if you have no moral difficulties of slaying villages of innocent people, then you'd be LE, no LN. Still, being LN you don't have to help everyone or show mercy to those that don't deserve it.
