It's so much simpler and easier than you make it out to be in your head. Your DM not being lenient enough? Just sit down and talk to him! A player metagaming and giving you trouble? Just sit down and talk to them! Fellow player hogging all the loot and giving the rest of you a hard time? Just sit down and talk to them! Your group trying to rebel and- Need I go on? Once you post, the #1 piece of advice that any frequent user of this forum will give you is that having a polite talk with the person in mind is always the best - and often, the only- thing to do. I cannot put enough emphasis on this. Just sit down with them and talk. There, I've said my piece, and I think I'll pop open a Dew and fight the Zombie. |
| Ashok_Lal09-04-06, 12:30 AM | Usualy that would take 40 posts |
| LCD2YOU09-04-06, 12:34 AM | Talking is so blaise. How about rubber bands at 10 paces? It seperates the real men from the other real men by about 50 feet. |
| Vaalingrade Ashland09-04-06, 01:16 AM | Nonsense. Everyone knows that childish revenge characters and convincing people from the internet to encourage your revenge fantasys with notions of hammerguns is the only way to deal with other people. Talking only leads to peaceful resolution and who wants that!? |
| Snommelp09-04-06, 01:31 AM | You've got to admit, Vaal, the Golden Shovel award is still really funny. Does anyone else remember the Golden Shovel award? Or am I just proving that I've been here too long? |
| Vaalingrade Ashland09-04-06, 07:03 AM | For the first post or so. Then it turns petty and vindictive. |
| Caliborn09-04-06, 10:30 AM | This way lies madness. Madness I say! |
| Snommelp09-04-06, 02:40 PM | For the first post or so. Then it turns petty and vindictive. Yeah, lots of threads turn petty and vindictive in the end. Lots of people have a lot of steam to blow off. Doesn't change the fact that it's petty, just explains it. |
| Tzor09-04-06, 03:41 PM | And when talking doesn't work, there is a second alternative. You don't have to play. It's like trying to find a date, there really are plenty of fish in the sea you don't have to get aggrivated over what is supposed to be fun and enjoyable. And I don't care if he is your friend, or she is your date, (ladies flip the pronouns appropriately) it is certanly possible to have friends who might not make the best gaming buddies at the gaming table. One final thought. It's also possible that someone in your group might actually talk to you about what they think is a problem. Hey they want to have fun too you know. Isn't it better that you know than they keep it to themselves, silently plotting how to get revenge for all those ulsers that keeping it all in generates? (Yes I know, ulsers are actually caused by viruses, but I'm still an old fart at heart.) |

Amen!!! Varos, you beat me to posting this same suggestion (I'm a chronic procrastinator...) Also -- apply this same advice to problems you have in real life, and things will (usually) go much better for all involved. |
