| Master_of_Mischief10-05-06, 07:00 PM | I know this is dumb and I'll admit I'm new to the game, I have got no idea how to use the whole percentile dice thing.:( Can somebody explain it to me please? |
| KurenaiYami10-05-06, 07:08 PM | You have two die: The d10, and the d%. Roll them both, add them together. The 0 on the d10 counts as 10. A 90 and a 0 will result in 100. |
| Tempest Stormwind10-05-06, 07:15 PM | A bit off, actually, as that trick gives you no way of rolling under 10. You have two ten-sided dice, but one's usually marked with two digits (i.e. a side might say 20 instead of 2). Roll them together, and add the results. If you roll all 0s (that is, 00 and 0), that's 100. If you don't have the double-digit die, just roll two d10s, preferrably of different colors. Call before you roll which one represents the double-digit die (i.e. I have a red and a blue 10-sider, and I'd call that red was the tens, and roll. I'd treat the red as the double-digit above). There's also golf-ball-sized d100s, but those are obnoxious. |
| Wayside10-05-06, 07:19 PM | 00 and a 1-9 = 1-9 10 and a 0-9 = 10-19 20 and a 0-9 = 20-29 30 and a 0-9 = 30-39 40 and a 0-9 = 40-49 50 and a 0-9 = 50-59 60 and a 0-9 = 60-69 70 and a 0-9 = 70-79 80 and a 0-9 = 80-89 90 and a 0-9 = 90-99 and lastly 00 and a 0 = 100 EDIT: looks like i was too slow, all well, i'll leave it up anyway |
| Cincinnati10-05-06, 08:51 PM | There's also golf-ball-sized d100s, but those are obnoxious. Well they are certainly goofy and unwieldy, and teeter around on the table for what seems like minutes before settling on a near-impossible to read number, but how are they obnoxious? :D |
| Tempest Stormwind10-05-06, 09:24 PM | Well they are certainly goofy and unwieldy, and teeter around on the table for what seems like minutes before settling on a near-impossible to read number, but how are they obnoxious? :Dob‧nox‧ious /əbˈnɒkʃəs/ [uhb-nok-shuhs] –adjective 1. highly objectionable or offensive; odious: obnoxious behavior. 2. annoying or objectionable due to being a showoff or attracting undue attention to oneself: an obnoxious little brat. 3. Archaic. exposed or liable to harm, evil, or anything objectionable. 4. Obsolete. liable to punishment or censure; reprehensible.I'd say you have number 2 in a nutshell, along with number 4 and possibly 3 as well. ;) In any case, mine worked reasonably well for a year or two, until it fell off the table onto a non-carpeted floor and shattered, spreading tiny ball-bearings everywhere. The host had a pair of kittens at the time, too, so that was a bit of an adventure in and of itself. Even when I did own one, though, I still preferred the d10s. |
| Zherog10-05-06, 09:34 PM | Mine stops rolling. :) But it's so hard to read, I don't bother using it anyway. :( |
| KurenaiYami10-05-06, 09:57 PM | A bit off, actually, as that trick gives you no way of rolling under 10. Uh...no? If you roll a 00 on the d%, and anything but a 0 on the d10, you get under 10. I fail to see what you mean. Edit: Just to be clear, your way works too, I just never thought about it. The 0 on the d10 is always a 10, otherwise you wouldn't be able to roll a 10 on a bastard sword. So my way works just as well and doesn't make it so you have to change what a d10 means. |
| Master_of_Mischief10-06-06, 01:51 PM | :D Thank you guys so much! This makes so much more sense now. Thanks! |
| Heahengel10-06-06, 03:06 PM | I've always preferred Tempest's method, but both work fine. I just like having the tens dice always give the correct digit (i.e. 10 and 0-9 represent 10-19, not 11-20), except in the one magical case of 000. |
| Exquisite_Flopilidopilies10-06-06, 03:27 PM | I always disliked the double-digit d10s for d%, preferring to roll just regular d10s . I used a red one and a black one, and called "fire before smoke!" before every roll, which had to have been at least as obnoxious as waiting for any d100 to stop rolling. |
| Thubby10-06-06, 10:29 PM | my group loves the d100 we all laugh hystericaly while the dm tries to a) role without it flying off table b)wait for it to finaly stop spinning c) figure what the hell he finaly rolled we all love it (even the dm) |
