| psyhcopig002-27-07, 07:39 PM | The Situation: Basically a character of mine died in the latest session with my DM, when...i wasn't there, but in return i am allowed to make a new character, starting at the same level we are currently at [3] this time there are extensions, but also limitations to what we can have, ones im not fully sure on, but i have the jist of... The Restrictions: -No starter Sorccerers, Bards, or Rogues [Not sure if where allowed to multiclass with them still or no...we better be able to...]-We cannot be Evil. -The game isnt fully reaching out of all ends of books, just the basics and the "Races of" books [namely Destiny, Wild and Stone] and the complete books -No psionics. -i do not wish to have a level adjustment. -i do not wish to be a monk, cleric, or druid. The Extensions: I can become any of the races from "Races of" -the wild -stone -Destiny The basics: We mainly run off of the DMG & PHB, but have access to Complete Warrior, Adventuerer, & Divine [ a good many others, we just havent had the courage to dive further into his fathers collection] for my starting class i will probobly only be allowed to choose from the base classes i would like to start thinking about priestage classes [im open to suggestions] i would like to go with the ways of arcane, or full fledged fighter [though i already have a barbarian, so im not too keen on becoming a fighter/barb] i LOVE stealth, and rogues, but of course i am not allowed to start as a rogue OR a socc [a wizard/rogue would be kinda...annoying...i would love a socc/rogue..] i get make a 3rd level char, so that means i need to choose my base, and weather or not i am going to multiclass now or later... open to plenty of suggestions |
| jbsaff02-28-07, 12:27 AM | Hmmm... Interesting set of options there... Going off of the stealthy idea, what about a Ranger? Especially if you can use the Urban Ranger Variant (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#rangerVarian tUrbanRanger). With a decent skill list, strong BAB, and two good saves, you could be pretty well set for when the Rogue is allowed. This also gets you the martial weapon list, and Two-Weapon Fighting for "free". I only have Races of the Wild on hand right now, but let me take a look... As for race, it might be interesting to try a Raptorian. This is heavily depended on the game setting and what makes sense. However, a sneaky character, swooping down from the rooftops to pick off the bad guys (or the good guys), gaining a suprise attack when possible for bonus damage, could be quite interesting. Just a thought. On a side note, I'm not sure I understand the prohibition on Bards, Rogues, and Sorcerers. The Wizard and Fighter both seem like they would require more "training" to begin, not to mention a Cleric, Paladin, or Monk. Additionally, these aren't the high-powered classes either, so I fail to see the reasoning. But maybe that's just me. |

As for the prohibitation on them, we already have a rogue, so he was fussing at me why would i make another...and then i have no idea why i cannot be a bard...as for sorcerer, we already have a wizard and the DM says they would not get along well enough... as for Cleric, pally and monk, well i have played them already, i also forgot to add druid to that list...i might MIGHT go for a ranger, the TWF thing does sound good... and it would prolly be better than starting a fighter just to get some leway in feats off...also, im curious, is it possible to sneak attack with a spell? [such as a "Fireball from nowwhere" or something of the sort...] |
| geekling02-28-07, 07:35 AM | i LOVE stealth, and rogues, but of course i am not allowed to start as a rogue OR a socc [a wizard/rogue would be kinda...annoying...i would love a socc/rogue..] Sounds like a spellthief from complete adventurer is just what you want. :) It's a class you really don't want to multiclass with though, one of them that a straight 20 level progression is usually the best idea. |
| psyhcopig002-28-07, 05:23 PM | he's only allowing us the basic starting classes[meaning PHB only, he might let us multi with them though, and im not going for a character as for RP, but to play it for...the game system? i guess you can say? our group isnt much for the actually RP type thing, more of just build a great char, become god, start over...though i dislike this styleof play, these are my friends, AND i have no one else to play with here...], with some taken out, i asked him he said i could do ranger then multi as a rogue, but i cant start as a rogue...i have 3 levels to work with... i think i am going with catfolk ranger, with 2 wep fighting prof., what i want to figure out now is... when should i multiclass?- should i multi as a rogue?- and i dont think multing a wiz would be too smart, but maybe?[im going to ask if i can go sorcerer, or should i even go that route?] -what would be a good priestiage class, for a stealthy, possibly spellcasting, tank assistant[im trying to max out for sneak attack damage] i am not doing ranger for range, i am only taking him to get around the no more rogues rule also a few things: Can spells be used as a sneak attack? if i were to be a wizard, then raise my wizard x levels, so that i have a caster level of x, then i go into a priestage class which required x caster level, and would continue my arcane levels, would i still have to use a book if the new class does not say it needs one? how exactly is damage calculated...i mean in terms of knowing a hit AC vs d20 attack roll? [heh, i feel really dumb asking this, but usually i just roll, then im either told i missed or to roll damage- or either im just told how much damage i take...never really calculated it before] see now im thinking about looking at priestiage classes which require x caster levels, which can allow me to A. use spells and B. be as stealthy as possible while doing it, and since im only allowed to level as a wizard, im curious if i level in x wizard, would i still need a book for the pestiage levels, i hate the though of being dependent on a book... |
