| The White Knight04-12-04, 06:48 AM | as anyone knows an ability score is what makes and breaks a character. Problem; although my memory is good enough to remember the players handbook i still had to skip though it to check on ability mods. From the info i'm looking at now you get extra abilty modifier the higher your ability is (table about extra spells) my question is do these modifiers apple to skills, r/f/w saves, combat, spell like and supernatural abilities and everything else. I know that elves get +2 dex and -2 con but do you also add the extra mods? |
| JoyandSerenity04-16-04, 01:54 AM | Now, from your last sentence, I was thinking that you meant to say that somebody with...let me put it like this. I have a Fighter with a 16 Strength score. He has a +3, so that means he has a 19 Strength. EEEHHH! Wrong. But as for applying it to skills, saves, and many other things, your answer is yes. Your +2 strength applies to your jump check. |
| ImmortalBlueMage04-16-04, 03:27 AM | I have a friend who makes the exact same mistake every time he makes a character. He keeps trying to hand me Halfling Rogues with Dexterity 22 at the first level and what not... |
| The White Knight04-16-04, 05:09 AM | you guys are still getting me wrong. I know that the bonus doesn't count to the ability scores, it comes from them. As someone replied (thanx) I only wanted to know if the bonus counts to skills and stuff like that. Don't bother relying, I've got my reply |

| UZI04-17-04, 08:44 AM | Generally, yes. Anything that boosts an ability score (and thus its modifier) applies to the relevant skills, attacks, saves, spell-casting save DCs, etc. Racial bonuses, inherent bonus, and the increases at every 4 levels (or hit-dice) all operate normally. If your constitution bonus goes up, you get more bonus hit-points per hit-dice (and an extra bonus to your fortitude save). If your intelligence bonus goes up, you get extra skill points going forward, but not retroactively for previous hit-dice. If your dexterity goes up, extra AC bonus (up to your Max DEX bonus to AC), and a boost in refles saves). Magically boosted intelligence (even that given by a permanent magic item) does not grant extra skill points. Spells that boost spell-casting abilities do not grant extra bonus-spells per day (though they will boost the save DC), but ability boosting items will give extra bonus spells provided they are worn through resting, preparation, and casting. |
