Here's my problem. In a campaign, one of my fellow companions treats my character like crap. So far, he has thrown pottery at me and did some other things I can't mention. I want to attack him, or at least find some way to make him stop. The DM does crap about it, and I'm afriad that if I attack, the rest of the aprty will gang up on me! What should I do?

take a level of sorcerer, and learn how to really use prestidigitation.

Coup de Grace, in his sleep.

Plant evidence to make it look like some NPC or another party member did it.

The other problem is he is a lv 8 Tiefling rogue. Coupe de grace sounds like a good idea, but could I have a little help or suggestions. I want it to be that even the DM won't be able to get me on it.

hmmm... Slash the player's tires, at the player's home, between game sessions?

NOTHING you do is above the DM's knowledge. After all, he has to know about it for it to happen. And if you have an arsehole DM, there's nothing you can do except start slashing tires.

thanks. I think at the next town I'll try one of two things. One, buy a masterwork longsword or something, and when staying at an Inn, kill him, planting the sword as someone else's. Two, buying some kind of weapon and when we sleep outside, on my turn to stand guard, kill him. Plant the weapon and hit myself over the head with a mace to seem like I got knocked out. This wouldn't affect my alignment of Nuetral would it?

Wow. I am shocked and saddened that no one has suggested the intelligent, non-combative route of "talk to the player". It's easy: just go up to him between sessions and say "hey, why is your character such an assface to mine? Do you think you could tone it down a bit? it's really killing the game for me." If he gives you the one-finger salute or something, then you slash his tires, or write "the moon rules #1" on his car, with a key. :D.

I was getting there! I just got home from work, it takes me a few minutes to get online. :D

But, yes, ask the player why his character is being such an asshat, and inform him that he is making the game less fun for you. If he persists, approach the DM and tell him this. If the DM doesn't admonish the player, you might just have to quit.

Alternately, consider this. ICly, he's being mean and rude to you, but he hasn't actually attacked you yet in a meaningful, lethal way (as far as I can tell ... I'm guessing the 'things you can't mention' are perverse in some way), so attacking him lethally would be a big mistake IC anyway. Now, of course, you aren't required to do him an FAVORS. If he needs help, ignore him until he apologizes and swears to whatever diety he holds sacred to treat you respectfully. Are you the party cleric? Don't heal him. Wizard? Don't make him any items.

Other plan: Talk, in character, to the rest of the party and ask them in-character, if they want to be associated with such an immature troublemaker. Is someone who treats their party members, whom they must trust with their lives at a moment's notice, in this manner worth it? Can this person even BE Trusted? If the answer is no, you can call for a party vote of censure or removal ("Sorry, Grog, you've been voted off the island.")

Screw this "talk with the player" stuff. Next session, bring something like jelly beans or chocolate peanuts along with you. These are not a snack, they are edible ammo. Whenever his character's an arse to you for no reason, pick up a piece of ammo, and whip it at the player's head. When he gets angry and asks "what the hell was that for?!", ask him what the hell his character just did was for.

If he doesn't get it, whip another jellybean at his head.

uhm, let me get this straight.

This guy's character is doing mean things to your character ?

React in character by poisoning his food, defecating in his bag of holding or stealing his stuff, or one of a hundred other things.

There is nothing, and I repeat nothing, that warrants taking in-game actions out of the game, unless the involved are clinically insane.

Killing him in his sleep is definately an option. Depending on the alignment/class of the player in question, you might consider waiting until he is asleep, stealing his weapon, and using it to murder some random (important) townsperson. Leave the weapon, plant some of the townperson's effects in the character's bag.

... ignoring every "mature" (sarcasm) asnwers, you have a few options...
: Talk to the player. This one was already said.

Examine yourself to see if maybe YOU could have initiated this fight...

1): Examine how your character deal with the problem character. (If you play an elf who's always tumbing your nose at him, he's perfectly within his right to harass you).

2): Examine how YOU deal with the problem player. If You're abusing him, he's gonna fight back.

3): Examine your behavior at the gaming table. Are you a munchkin? A rule-lawyer? A Dweeb? Are you always making innapropriate jokes? If so, he's within his rights.

4): Examine your group's relationship with you. Basicaly, where there's smoke, there's fire. If nobody likes you, YOU are probably the problem.

Sorry if these come accross as harsh. I'm not saying any of this is the case. But it never hurt to check if maybe YOU are the cause of the problem.

Ze Vegetable Zpeakz Wizdom!

seriously, look at the situation from an objective stance. no, more objective. there you go...

now, was there some slight btw your characters?

does he hate all halflings (perfectably acceptable char. trait, if a bit racist) and you're a halfling (or anything else he's prejudiced against)

is this behaviour SOLELY directed at your char, from this one?

all in all, look at it from an outsider's perspective (even better: from his perspective) and THEN make decisions based on it.

if it's getting to the point where the game aint fun, dont play.

if it's getting to the point where you're sharpening your car keys, don't play.

it aint that deep, after all, it IS just a game.

if it's solely IC "bickering" (which it sounds like it's not, but i dont know everything) here's my suggestion. take a level of sorc. (or max out your UMD score and get a wand of prestidigitation) Make everything he eats taste like pork. beer, oatmeal, raisins, it all will tasts like pork.

cool his food/boots/bedroll, heat his ale. Pick objects quite obviously and "float" them to HIS pouch.

sabotage his saddle cinches, paint him purple, put glue in his hat.

basically, all the really mean, stupid pranks you (hopefully) never pulled off IRL, do to this guy.

also, don't flank for him, don't cover his back, don't treat him like a member of the team. if it's just you, you'll soon die, or be ejected from the game, problem solved.

if it's NOT just you, and his actions are COMPLETELY unwarranted, this'll at the least bring them to the fore.

thanks everyone. I'll try some of these things out. Our characters did just level up, so I might take sorcerer. Really I haven't done anything to him in the game and I don't try to be annoying to anyone. I try to act my character by trying to be a good person (I won't go into the history. Just a person trying to redeem himself). The worse he has done to me is drop an enchanted sword down an 80 ft hole and stabbed me in the leg (we had decided to split up. One half of the group take the lower tunnel while the others take the top). I'll go with prestidigitation and torture him a bit. If he doesn't stop after that, then I'll frame him.
