| RevIron01-20-07, 03:52 PM | Yes, that's right, we're about to face a certain TV villan I won't name for fear of violating Trademark/CoC. There are three of them. Apart from using some scrolls of lightning bolt we've got what else can we do? Party breakdown: Human Unknown Class 20 (NPC) Sea-Cat (Homebrew Race) Sorcerer 5/Psion 3 (DMPC) Halfling Bard 7 - Specialising in Bard Conjurations, with a Wand of Magic Missles Human Fighter 7 - Specialising in Two-Handed Axes Wild Elf Ranger 5/Druid 1 - Bow Route Human Wizard 4 - With Various Fire Spells Memorised When we finished we were just about to roll initiative. |
| High Octane01-20-07, 04:11 PM | Kick Venger's Ass. |
| obrysii01-20-07, 04:29 PM | Mentioning a name is not against CoC or trademarks. It would classify as 'fair use' (as it's just a name). Otherwise, you wouldn't be able to talk about McDonalds or Arby's, because they are registered trademarks. And that'd be bad for them not to be able to get word of mouth. So, so long as you aren't claiming those trademarks are yours, you are good to go. Back on topic: We can't really say much 'cause you didn't post his stats. |
| TheChilliGod01-20-07, 04:41 PM | Have you noticed that an NPC in the party is level 20 and the DMPC is level 8 when the rest of the party is level 4-7? Uh, What on earth is a level 20 hanging around that bunch of low-levels for? |
| High Octane01-20-07, 05:07 PM | Have you noticed that an NPC in the party is level 20 and the DMPC is level 8 when the rest of the party is level 4-7? Uh, What on earth is a level 20 hanging around that bunch of low-levels for? Have you seen the D&D TV show? What do you think Dungeon Master is? Hes that annoying DMPC who railroads your games. |
| the_Conqueror_Worm01-20-07, 05:23 PM | If it is what I think it is, just sit back and let the Doctor handle it. I'm guessing that's who your 20th level companion is supposed to be. Or, if this situation is annoying, just tell them you want to offer yourself up to their God that he might have you filleted, pulped and sifted until everything humanoid has been removed and from which he could cultivate pure and blessed Dalek. Then injure your DM's reproductive bits in some way. This step is indispensable, regardless of which option you choose. |
| AngelDust Anderson01-20-07, 05:29 PM | Wait, what are these enemies? Are they Daleks? (Guess from name of thread) -Anderson |
| RevIron01-20-07, 05:31 PM | I would have thought that using the catchphrase in the title would have been a clue - but obviously not enough. I'm talking here about three Daleks(TM). The DM's been careful - the plot involves the High Level NPC having lost his memory - so only the DM knows what class he is, not even the NPC knows. The lower level DMPC used to be an NPC and will be retiring in three game months time when he'll be returning to the Sea Cats. For the record the party chose to request both NPCs accompany them in exchange for a treasure share (although it was a bit surprising they didn't want a higher share to reflect there greater experience the first time, this has happend before). Both are travelling with us temporaly, but there's usally an NPC of about party level+1 travelling with us for plot reasons, and so we can use the DMs "player knowledge" |
| High Octane01-20-07, 05:37 PM | Both are travelling with us temporaly, but there's usally an NPC of about party level+1 travelling with us for plot reasons, Your DM is on a power trip. |
| mcnoo01-20-07, 05:37 PM | Mentioning a name is not against CoC or trademarks. But am I allowed to say Jehovah? |
| High Octane01-20-07, 05:43 PM | But am I allowed to say Jehovah? Stop that. You are only making things worse for yourself. |
| Meshakhad01-20-07, 06:48 PM | Eh, he can say Jehovah, it's not pronounced that way. |
| Radijs01-20-07, 07:18 PM | You're facing 3 daleks? RUN AWAY! |
| SokenzanMarauder01-20-07, 07:31 PM | You're facing 3 daleks? RUN AWAY! Preferably with peeing yourself. It only makes things worse, trust me. -Gene |
| Artector01-20-07, 07:57 PM | You're facing 3 daleks? RUN AWAY! Call The Doctor! Without knowing the rest of the setup a there isn't a lot we can do to help you. Blast the hell out of them and be on the lookout for useful items. Or you could open up the Void on them. |
| Radijs01-20-07, 07:59 PM | Yes wear red & blue specs! Then run away! |
| AngelDust Anderson01-20-07, 08:13 PM | Get to some stairs, daleks are slow getting up stairs. Daleks are powerful, but not invulnerable. the best Idea would be to crush them. Their weapons are electricity-based and have a hard time affecting non-living targets. If you can, get the DMPC to summon Astral constructs, which should be unaffected by the instant death effect. Any summons you know of that are immune to instant death effects would work. Energy Resistance: Electricity would also help. The three best suggestions I have though are: 1. Archons 2. Traps 3. Grappling The reasoning for Archons is quite simple, Archons are naturally immune to lightning, therby making them Immune to Daleks. The easiest one to get would be a Lantern Archon, which can be summoned quite simply. More powerful ones would naturally be better though. Traps are useful because the is nothing for the Dalek to attack back. There weapons are going to be rather ineffective against a rolling boulder, or the best, and most simple trap, a cave in. A cave in should crush the Daleks, with know way out for them. Grappling is the worst of these three suggestions because of the difficulty to get close to them, although it would be rather effective if you do manage to grapple one. Daleks have nothing that could be use properly if you do grapple them, and it would be rather simple to bend or break their plunger-grasper. -Anderson |
| Thubby01-20-07, 08:38 PM | dodge whatever freak weapons it has, then proceed to push them over. they aint gettin back up! |
| Dei01-20-07, 08:44 PM | dodge whatever freak weapons it has, then proceed to push them over. they aint gettin back up! Where have you been? These bad boys can fly now. :P |
| HK-47 II01-20-07, 08:48 PM | actually grappling is a bad idea, I remember an episode where Rose touched a wounded Dalek and it healed, don't know whether it was her Life force or that she had been through time but, still, I wouldn't try... |
| Artector01-20-07, 08:54 PM | actually grappling is a bad idea, I remember an episode where Rose touched a wounded Dalek and it healed, don't know whether it was her Life force or that she had been through time but, still, I wouldn't try... Daleks can harness the Energy of time travelers. That's how it healed. |
| HK-47 II01-20-07, 08:57 PM | okay... well then he should atleast discourage the lvl 20 NPC from grappling then, Just in case... |
| AngelDust Anderson01-20-07, 09:39 PM | Actually there was an old episode, when the Daleks were still in war on their own planet, where The Doctor and a random NPC grappled a Dalek, I worked quite well, It was not able to bring it's weapons to bear on them, so the beat it quite easily. -Anderson |
| Halgar01-20-07, 10:05 PM | Imagine if you could cast "Charm Monster" on one of them. A Dalek pal! |
| AngelDust Anderson01-21-07, 12:43 AM | Imagine if you could cast "Charm Monster" on one of them. A Dalek pal! I don't think that would work, Daleks can only feel Hatred. |
| kelvinaw27301-21-07, 03:04 AM | Methods of Killing Daleks: 1) Cut their power. An anti-technology field might work. 2) Energy weapons can get through their force-field - disintegration nails them completely! ("You are the weakest link! Goodbye!") Lightning bolts may not be that effective, though, but anything emulating a laser should work. 3) While their force-fields are ballistic, multiple missile strikes can get through (aim for the eyestalk). 4) Acid works on them like a charm (Dalek Invasion of Earth), their forcefields don't stop it and it eats through their casing. 5) If all else fails bashing at close range may damage them. 6) Mind-control spells may convince them they are impure so that they suicide. Remember, there is a living creature in there that was evolved from humanoids, so Hold Person may work. In Summery: Scorching Ray and Melf's Acid Arrow are your best offensive spells at your levels. Pepper them with missile fire and concentrate on just one target. If all else fails, close and try to bash their various appendages off before they exterminate you ... Mind control is a last resort, it's iffy but may work. |
| High Octane01-21-07, 05:06 PM | Daleks may be the most pure form of Lawful Evil ever concieved. "I am impure! ORDER MY DESTRUCTION!" |
| ^Graff_EpsilonIX01-21-07, 05:21 PM | If you have enough space, dig a big pit. They'll have to levitate up the pit, giving you time to figure out how to close them in, or buff... Terrain obstacles should be effective as long as they don't have energy weapons that can get through solid castle walls or other similar material. Take a look at other RPGs (such as timelord) featuring the dalek, they might have other ideas. |
| danielinthewolvesden01-22-07, 01:25 AM | The DM is running two NPCs, and one of them is 5 times the level of the lowest member of the party?! Tell the DM IC "All of us Withdraw and go Full Defensive." OOC "Now, the 4 of us will go out for Pizza while you play with yourself. Let us know how the combat came out, willya?". While you are out for pizza, see if one of the 4 of you would like to run as DM.:P Or, you can sit down with your DM, and talk with him like adults, and tell him that you are not really having fun. |
| Yokomohoyo01-22-07, 02:28 AM | Get the feat reflect ray and pray that they miss on you and reflect their ray back to them... |
| RevIron01-28-07, 07:45 AM | I thought you'd like to know we finally decided to go with the anti-technology field option. We had to fight our way through about six Daleks - but having some technological incendiary devices (aka Shotguns with the flaming enchantment on the bullets) helped there. We managed to kill six in the end. Here are some key figures we were given after the battle: AC 25 hp 10 DR 5/cold Str and Dex Mods +1 BAB +1 |
