I'm mainly wondering what AC characters in other games have.

In our games 24-25 is normal with a few characters in the 20 range. Were an avg lvl of 9.

My level 8 character has AC 30 (adjusted to include an invisibilty modifier) and 12 HP.

Well... in my game, all level 13, the ranger/fighter has 31, the barbarian has 25, the rogue has 27, the cleric has 27ish, and the mage is channel_dunlap. :smirk: A lot of games with severe powergaming out there, the average around level 9 is low- to mid-30s. :b:

between 12 and 16, with one 19. They're first level.

I am currently level 5 in my friend's campaign and have an outragious AC.....
I have a +1 Mithril Chainshirt of Nimblness

+ 10 (base)
+ 5 (chainshirt)
+ 5 (dex)
+ 1 (ring of protection)
+1 (dodge)
+ 1 (defending scimitar)
+ 1 two weapon defence
____

24

now thats an average, I can of course not declare dodge, not have my scimitar, or use both attacks so my two weapon defence doesn't come in.

But what my DM hates me to death about is that next level at 6 I get a +1 AC no matter what from the Dervish class, and Improved Two Weapon Fighting which will lead to Improved Two Weapon Defence. Oh and I forgot about alittle feat that rules the world, Combat Expertise...

And of course once I get some Gloves of Dex I get my AC up (max of 7 dex with my armor) which boosts that and my Attack Roll(s).

[[[ I perfer enemies not touch me   ]]]

If he hates that you're doing it, couldn't he not allow it (PrC's being optional, and all)? Or has he already thrown them up against you, and now he' suffering the wrath of fair play?

Man... these all seem so high to me, expecially considering that I think Drizzts was only 26 or 27 when they converted him, and he's nearing 20th lv on top of being known for his flawless dexterity! But whateva... its still cool... I think more that his should be higher than to say that you guys need lowered. :D

considering that a lvl 20 fighter will easily have a +29 to attacks, i don't see how someone could go around at that level with that low an AC. I had an AC of 42 with my monk at level 20, (including a feat which when used lowers my ac) and I wasnt even trying to min/max him.

Elminster's also a little "poorly built". The ELH version would be demolished by a PC Wizard/Archmage of his _Wizard Caster Level_, let alone his challenge rating. For one thing, you really need to have Epic Spellcasting for the stat buff spells. Those are totally insane.

Lots of the "big-name" NPCs are actually much weaker than a PC of their level, due to rather silly multiclassing.

My party just hit level 7, and we're pretty well spread.

Stone Giant: 25
Wizzie: 12
Halfling ftr/rog (still level 5 due to having the only two player deaths of the campaign, so much for halflings being lucky): 19, with copious use of fighting defensively
Dwarven plate-wearing cleric: 18, up to about 25 fully-buffed
Everyone else: 16-19 (dunno about the new character, probably low 20s given the excessively spangly armour)

Given that no-one has magical armour (except possibly the new guy) and only my giant has an item granting deflection bonuses, this is probably a minimum at level 7. Admittedly the three highest scores are mine and I'm a bit of a powergamer, but none of mine are really optimised for AC.

I'd say your party is pretty well-adjusted, probably not munchkinised and with about the right level of equipment. Which is a good place to be...

I prefer the term "roleplaying".

Char lvl 9, rogue 8 tiefling.

AC = 18.

Dex 18 = +4
Mithril Chain Shirt = +4
(dodge +1)
(Mobility +4)

I have speed 60 though, and next lvl spring attack as rogue. I always manage to get below party average, but I do consider this a normal AC.

That doesn't make Sorcerer/Wizard/Bard (pick any two) multiclassing less silly. I doubt the "roleplaying" explanation for their absurd multiclassing are any good (except perhaps in Elminster's case). Besides, aren't the Chosen of Mystra supposed to be powerful and dangerous?

I once multiclassed a LVL 4/5 Fighter/Rogue who had an AC of 22. Granted, though, it should really have been something more like 27, but I prefer role-playing to powergaming, and so, I was keeping my Scale Mail, rather than upgrading to something else. My main problem was I never had the money for a Ring of Protection.
