| Omaha_beach02-16-04, 08:26 AM | Alrighty then, does the hardness afflict acid attacks? I am sitting in a situation and I want to get out....I am a sorcerer, so I am thinking "hmm...If I cast melfs acid arrow on my chains then they will tear through the metal and release me"...now it states that melfs acidic arrow only deals 2d4 so it can't beat the iron chains hardness of 10...but that does seem a bit weird...acid can't harm iron?!?!? Sooo...what do you say/rule or is there any kind of special rules anywhere about this? Or is my poor Sorcerer just forced to sit tight in these iron chains? Yours truly Chrash - more naked women in roleplaying associations! |
| Revelation02-16-04, 09:31 AM | If you read the latest 3.5 FAQ there is a question about hardness which refers to page 165 of the PH for fuller details. Acid ignores hardness so the damage from Melf's Acid Arrow will go straight through the chain's hardness, you're FREE! |
| tarkin02-16-04, 10:37 AM | Remember that Objects still take 1/2 damage from Acid. |
| Omaha_beach02-16-04, 01:51 PM | Well, now I am actually playing in a 3.0 world...is there any difference there? And does this mean that it only takes half damage from my acid arrow? Regards Chrash |
| Inigo Carmine02-16-04, 11:14 PM | Granted this is the 3.5 SRD but: From the SRD Energy Attacks: Acid and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects just as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally after a successful hit. Electricity and fire attacks deal half damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the hardness. Cold attacks deal one-quarter damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 4 before applying the hardness. looking up in my 3.0 PHB acid attacks only deal half damage in that version as well. |
| NestroEmichae02-16-04, 11:42 PM | Contrary to DnD rules, there are plenty of acids that have no affects on iron. I suggest you look it up if you are using a specific acid. If you are not, just use the standard rules. |
