| Hart L02-05-05, 03:23 PM | Ok, here's my problem. One of the requirements for this presteege class is to make peacful contact with an evil outsider. Now I'd like to know 1) The best way to summon said evil outsider. 2) My DM contests that if you summon a creature it is being brought to this plane (In the case of a demon) against it's own wishes so it's not peaceful contact. Is that true? I know if he wants my DM can say "Shut up I said he hates you!" but just like to know the official ruleing. Thanks. |
| fallabel02-05-05, 03:32 PM | I always figured that you'd have to travel to a different plane in order to make peaceful contact like that, but I'm really not sure. |
| Megrim_Lord02-05-05, 03:45 PM | get a quasit familiar, then you can have all the peaceful contact you never wanted (man those things are annoying!) |
| J.B.02-05-05, 04:07 PM | I think your DM is making quick/wrong assumptions (or maybe he just doesn't want you to have that prestige class just yet). The whole point of summoning demons to you, more often than not, is to strike deals with them (offer someones soul or a powerful magic item in exchange for power, etc). It's possible for them to be angry at the beginning, but through diplomacy, and the offer of great reward, their attitudes can be shifted to/towards friendly. I haven't heard of any clear rules on the attitude of summoned creatures. It may be left up to the DM to decide the creature's attitude (if that's the case you have my sympathy). Anyhow, I guess the best way to go about this is to use the "Lesser Planar Binding" spell (not forgetting about the protection circle) and make the demon an offer it can't refuse (feel free to offer up one of your teamates, I think the demon would appreciate the betrayal and having something alive to toy with). |
| Callista02-05-05, 05:10 PM | Yeeesh! No, don't offer a teammate... for purely out of game reasons, this is bad strategy as your fellow PCs won't like you; and for in-game reasons, it's bad strategy because they now know you're willing to kill them. Offer an NPC instead. *evil grin* And, yeah... what else are those Planar binding spells for, if not to summon an outsider to talk with? |
| J.B.02-05-05, 06:54 PM | An NPC, that's brilliant (unless your character has some in-game reason for wanting another PC dead). |
| Hart L02-05-05, 07:22 PM | Well there is that pesky weretiger merc that's bugging me..... Thanks. This site is a crap load better than every other online forum I've ever seen. I post today and already five replies. Wow. What level is the planar binding spell? (My PHB has been comendeered by one of my friends) |
| J.B.02-05-05, 08:36 PM | Unfortunately it's fifth level. However, you could try to cast it from a scroll. All you'ld have to do is buy one for 1125 gold and make a caster level check against a DC of 10 (assuming the scroll was cast at 9th level and your not high level enough). |
| Callista02-06-05, 12:51 AM | Or hire someone to cast it for you, if you're in a big city with the requisite high level wizards. |
| Hart L02-06-05, 01:07 AM | Alright that's a good idea. I can then ask the demon AND the wizard about the Ritual of Bonding, my DM said it won't be hard to find once I'm high enough level. How long does that spell last? |
| J.B.02-06-05, 05:23 PM | The spell's duration is instantanous. Essentially the demon is trapped there until it can make it spell resistance against the circle of protection (and teleport out) or it makes a successful charisma check against a DC of (15 + 1/2 caster level + charisma). It can try one of these methods once per day. |
| mcnoo02-06-05, 05:58 PM | Just summon a very weak demon (a little imp you could eat for breakfast if you want), say "i have a great gift for you if you promise not to destroy me long enough for me to grant it to you" then let it out of the magic circle. Appease it with a load of sacrifices and worship, being a puny little thing it won't be used to worship and the ego trip will make it somewhat peaceable. Even better if you have your firstborn son handy to give it in case it's peckish. |
| Hart L02-06-05, 07:40 PM | I wonder what it would take to convince it to be my familiar and get it to sit still for the hours I need it to. Hmmmm.... I'm thinking I could probably waste a few peasents. I do have my evil dwarven cleric buddy to hold sacrafices. I'll ask my DM. Thanks. |
