Hello everyone. I'm a long time player of DnD and the Realms, and just recently found these boards, after having numerous bad experiences with other d20 forums. *Grumbles* In any event, I cannot seem to remember how you deal with certain aspects of changing a character's type. When a PC changes from Humanoid to an Outsider (by prestige class, ritual, or some other reason), do you recalculate hit points, saves, and base attack bonus for the character. In the MM 3.5, it says an Outsider has a BAB equal to it's total Hit Die and good saves. Would this mean that a 5th level wizard that becomes an outsider has a +5 BAB and +4 in all his saves? Thanks for any help in this area!

Only his type changes. Bab/saves etc remain unchanged. If you have racial HD, skill points and HD type might be affected though. The desc in the template should tell you what is changed and what remains intact.

Generally the change is for type only, that is they loose their previous type and any of its benefits, to gain the benefits of the new type.
Their bab, HD, and etc... are all from class levels, same as before.

The text in the MM 3.5 is referring to characters/creatures with outsider (for instance) HD, racial HD to be exact.
For instance: Thri-Kreen have 2 racial HD, these HD are monstrous humanoid HD and grant benefits as stated in the monstrous humanoid entry. If the Thri-Kreen also has class levels, the saves, skills, bab, etc... all stack together as if the character were multiclassing. (you don't take multiclassing xp penalties for racial HD though, just FYI)
